Lincoln City sacked Mark Kennedy 13th October, we sacked Barton 26th October……..they appointed Michael Skubala 13th November and us Matt Taylor 1st December.
No one digs Lincoln out as being a big club, a Peterborough United or a big spender. We also remember us running riot there and Stuart Campbell scoring a goal we never thought he was possible of doing in 2007……….Lincoln City are in essence a Bristol Rovers of Div1, I’d argue we are bigger in attendance and budget.
I’ve banged the drum that we’ve only beaten crap bar Charlton and we also know our home form is on another level to our away form, it’s what sustains us. Skubala has stamped his identity on Lincoln City, Taylor hasn’t on Bristol Rovers.
Saturday is make or break game in my opinion, no more excuses, this isn’t even Wycombe coming to town with Championship parachute payments (good excuse for our excuse kings on here). They are the benchmark and this game is a leveller. Hands up, if Matt Taylor even inspires us to a well played draw against Lincoln, I’ve got to say maybe just maybe he’s got onto something here. Another Wycombe style defeat, I think it’s 💯 time to act to save the season and a relegation battle, it’s clear he has no idea of how to move ua forward.
To offer a little balance, I think the Grant Ward cupping his ears as a sub as well, offers a little insight into our situation, it’s seems the experienced pros are behind the manager and he hasn’t lost the changing room.
Saturday is a real indicator and benchmark game of where we are with Matt Taylor.
Lastly when we get smart arse fans on here saying who would you bring in as manager then? It’s not our job to appoint the manager, it’s people within football to. Skubala was only appointed Leeds U21 manager in July 2022 and he’s never played the game either professionally but he’s doing a great job at Lincoln. 1.66 points per game in 47 games, compared to MT’s 1.12 PPG over 50 games.

Totally agree with above, though one difference I believe. We had a totally devided team and fan base when Barton left. He was that charismatic or corrosive depending on which side of the divide you fell. It would have been tough for any manager coming in.

Maybe the Grant Ward reaction after his goal, was a response to the "This is embarrassing" chant, rather than the "We want Taylor out." I don`t really think we need the Lincoln game to tell us where we currently are under Taylor. I still live in hope that he can improve things, but with each passing game, I feel it`s less likely to happen.

Give MT time to work through his contract. If DC was left for last 10 years, who knows what would happen.UTG Back where he started most likely as DC had taken us as far as he could, as far as Lincoln they are similar to Stockport, a similarly well run club with the entire fanbase behind the players, they sacked the previous manager as they looked like missing out on the play offs and his replacement just missed out on the last day of the season, Whereas our owners have freely admitted they have no intention of getting promoted until the Mem is redeveloped, assuming they are telling GF/MT the same then their remit must be to finish around mid table, which is precisely what they look to be achieving this season, even if most of us would like a play off push.

Embarrassing losing to a non league club. I wonder if teams who also lost to non league clubs like Huddersfield and Northampton are having similar melt downs.
Wait…

Wait… Udders fans melting down a bit, Premiership club 5 years ago. Cobblers fans, Jon Brady credit in the bank and hostility towards owners. Brady has offered his resignation this summer of the budget, club refused it and he feels a loyalty towards them. Jacket man above, I’ve been balanced and offered context here whilst admitting if we play well with a point gained, maybe he needs backing. Offered you stats as well, I was at Boston away when we lost 2-0 under Trolls the season we got promotion, some wanted him gone that day, we are not always right as fans. There is no better benchmark than Saturday for us.

I am not in the Taylor needs to go now camp, but Roadman has a good point about Lincoln being a benchmark. In the last two seasons they have beaten us 6-3 and 5-0, the latter under Taylor. Had someone told me at the start of the season that we would have 16 points from our first 13 games I doubt that I would have been very surprised, though I would have hoped for a few more away points. Lincoln seem to be improving but, with all respect to them, they are the sort of side we should be beating, or at the very least no losing to, at home if we are looking to improve. We have Chris Martin back and so MT can put out at least a reasonably full-strength 11 (is Shaq fit?). I wonder how it will go.

Lincoln are presently 5th just 2pts off second, are they really the type of side we should be beating, more likely they are the type of side we should be aiming to become whenever the owners decide that a promotion push is viable?

Lincoln are indeed doing pretty well, and are an admirable club, but they lost 3-0 to Crawley in their last away game and I would be pretty disappointed if we didn't get at least a point from the game next Saturday. Whether we get one or three points, or none, will be a good indicator of where we are going.
