Lincoln are presently 5th just 2pts off second, are they really the type of side we should be beating, more likely they are the type of side we should be aiming to become whenever the owners decide that a promotion push is viable? Lincoln are indeed doing pretty well, and are an admirable club, but they lost 3-0 to Crawley in their last away game and I would be pretty disappointed if we didn't get at least a point from the game next Saturday. Whether we get one or three points, or none, will be a good indicator of where we are going. You can't use a teams results in relation to our games. We beat Charlton who beat Birmingham remember. We also lost to Wycombe who beat Crawley who beat Lincoln who actually beat Stockport that we lost to, so perhaps there's something in it..

Change the bloody record and have a day off please. There are people in Ulan Bator who know you want Taylor out. There’s probably civilisations thousands of light years away who know you want Taylor out. There are surely only so many ways you can say the same thing. Or just don’t comment back and add fuel to the fire…..? Are you two joined at the hip? No sooner does one of you get mentioned or make a comment and the other leaps in to defend or agree. It's a bit strange.

Lincoln City sacked Mark Kennedy 13th October, we sacked Barton 26th October……..they appointed Michael Skubala 13th November and us Matt Taylor 1st December. No one digs Lincoln out as being a big club, a Peterborough United or a big spender. We also remember us running riot there and Stuart Campbell scoring a goal we never thought he was possible of doing in 2007……….Lincoln City are in essence a Bristol Rovers of Div1, I’d argue we are bigger in attendance and budget. I’ve banged the drum that we’ve only beaten crap bar Charlton and we also know our home form is on another level to our away form, it’s what sustains us. Skubala has stamped his identity on Lincoln City, Taylor hasn’t on Bristol Rovers. Saturday is make or break game in my opinion, no more excuses, this isn’t even Wycombe coming to town with Championship parachute payments (good excuse for our excuse kings on here). They are the benchmark and this game is a leveller. Hands up, if Matt Taylor even inspires us to a well played draw against Lincoln, I’ve got to say maybe just maybe he’s got onto something here. Another Wycombe style defeat, I think it’s 💯 time to act to save the season and a relegation battle, it’s clear he has no idea of how to move ua forward. To offer a little balance, I think the Grant Ward cupping his ears as a sub as well, offers a little insight into our situation, it’s seems the experienced pros are behind the manager and he hasn’t lost the changing room. Saturday is a real indicator and benchmark game of where we are with Matt Taylor. Lastly when we get smart arse fans on here saying who would you bring in as manager then? It’s not our job to appoint the manager, it’s people within football to. Skubala was only appointed Leeds U21 manager in July 2022 and he’s never played the game either professionally but he’s doing a great job at Lincoln. 1.66 points per game in 47 games, compared to MT’s 1.12 PPG over 50 games. A more balanced and reflective posting Paul. You make good points Lincoln are always a good match and have done well at the Mem regardless of who’s been our manager. I’d love a win but would settle for a draw and an acceptance that the job at Rovers isn’t that easy with a whole new squad and all the background noise

Nice op and research.
My only provisio in all this is mitigations that when JAB left us, him and his cult entourage were ripped out the club too. So that's coaches, staff and players, we then went through a who's who in the Barton camp and those pretty much all left between now and then. It's been a hell of a rebuild, and still ongoing. Lincoln suffered no such wholesale replacement.
Also, we were in a worse league status place than Lincoln, who (remarkably) went on to flirt with promotion and finish the one place out of play offs, in 7th. And both managers left for different defacto reasons.
They clearly have momentum, which is so important in football, and come to us on Saturday in the play off positions having only lost 3 matches to our 7 so far this season.
Not even considering budgets, sold players funds, their youth policy, number of retained players under new manager, true fanbase numbers, sponsorship (Branstons pumped a few quid in front of shirt sponsor), corporate financial input, culture of the club etc...for instance: you might be able to pay cash there!(?)
It's a wide benchmark narrowed by op pick and choose narrative, and not an accurate direct comparison imo.
But interesting, nonetheless..

Not every game is "make or break". No matter how much this forum wants the drama! Will be a tough game, hope we can show we are ready to compete with the teams in the top 6. 4 points in the next 2 home games will be a good return. Need some 100% fit no9's asap!

not sure how playing the team who are specialists at sitting back and hitting teams on the break with long balls is a benchmark game. They have lost just once in 17 games playing this way and are reminiscent of Coughlins tactics which we complained about

Winning 0-4 in the cup away tonight, we’ve got 2 extra days rest on them now.

Plenty of youth and pace, and they looked up for the fight. I’d say they are currently a well placed side to do well in league one this season. A possible outside bet for promotion maybe. Good luck to them, apart from Saturday of course, a well run club who look to be improving all the time. UTG

Well we struggled against Chesham a few years ago didn’t we? Wasn’t it Barry Hayles as player manager? Happy days 🤣 Looking forward to Saturday!

Wardy cupping his ears at the North Enclosure...to me that was a "sod you" to those who booed at half and full time. Good on him. 🏴☠️ Ward has got a brass neck, he has been absolutely terrible this season, still living off his tremendous performance at Norwich away last season, needs to look at himself, before bigging it up in front of the home supporters.

I've seen the opposite from Ward this season. Every time we have played well, it has been when he has come onto the pitch. At the beginning of the season when he was starting, I think he struggled. Now knowing that him and Lindsey are a straight swap for each other, I think he has played well. Those complaining about him cupping his ears are probably the same ones who are saying the manager should be sacked or he's lost the changing room. Just support the team and stay offbthe players and manager back until after the final whistle.

I’ve got no issue with Ward cupping his ears, our chants were embarrassing and pathetic whilst still in a game at 1-1.
As for his form, we never signed him as an impact player and he’s shown his best form this season coming off the bench. He should never be playing for Bristol Rovers, we’ve only got him because he can’t stay fit. A fit Grant Ward is playing in the Championship or above every week, just like Bodin, just like Hoskins, every now and then we get lucky with a player who is miles above the standard we are at but he’s with us because of his body and injuries.
If Grant Ward could play 35 games plus a season like someone like Holloway, Stuart Campbell etc we’d be in a much better situation.

In my view Ward had every right to cup the ears, just like Adam Barrett all those years ago & Jermaine Easter in more recent times. Our home ‘support’ booing the team and chanting for the managers removal during a match that was not yet complete, was frankly embarrassing and uncalled for. More so when ten minutes later they are in raptures celebrating retaking the lead & then sealing the game with Ward’s fine strike. If you run the chance of participating in the above mid game and the result eventually goes our way, be prepared to be shushed/ear cupped or called out by the players you’re claiming to support & just take it.
