Russia’s war on Ukraine and the Israel-Gaza conflict helped the British weapons manufacturer BAE Systems to record profits last year, with further growth expected in the year ahead.
The FTSE 100 company made underlying profits before interest and tax of £2.7bn on record sales of £25.3bn in 2023.
BAE Systems’ sprawling interests include building nuclear submarines and fighter jets, tanks and ships, as well as guns and ammunition.
Reading back through this thread and recalling one of my initial posts that predictably drew criticism. This round of conflicts has certainly helped investment portfolios containing BAE or ftse trackers. Nice. Guardian price from Q1.

Can someone enlighten me as to how Israel know where Hamas Leaders are, were, in order to send missles in? Got spies on the ground?

My sympathy with Israel is slowly going.

My sympathy with Israel is slowly going. I agree, Israel has the right to defend itself bit that's not a blank cheque. Netanyahu has gone too far, possibly he can't hold back now as he's inextricably linked to its success or failure.

My sympathy with Israel is slowly going. It's collateral damage during the removal of one of the top targets. This guy reportedly masterminded the Oct 7th attacks where innocents were killed, abducted, gang raped, mutilated. The holy book promotes equal reaction and revenge, so whilst westerners are horrified at developments, the Hamas followers are living their beliefs. The weapons manufacturers are high fiving too.

Also, the West losing sympathy for Israel is one of the goals for Hamas. They can't win a war against Israel but having people turn against them is certainly plausible and Israel is handing Hamas that on a plate.

At government and manufacturer level, Israel is in a strong position. There's no chance that Israel can lose this as it would be catastrophic for the west.

That's the paradox, we have too much at stake for Isreal to lose, but they are imo taking liberties with that support. Netanyahu's future is also inextricably linked with a clear win. In the meantime we are losing the narrative in Ukraine and I feel a Trump victory will seal their fate.
