Today is the fourth anniversary of Qasem Soleimani's death, timing isn't a coincidence. "It was not clear who was behind the explosions and there were no immediate claims from any groups. But Arab separatists, Islamic State (IS) and other Sunni jihadist groups have said they have carried out deadly attacks on security forces and Shia shrines in the country in recent years. Soleimani was seen as the most powerful figure in Iran after the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, before he was killed in a US drone strike in neighbouring Iraq in 2020. Wednesday's incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region after the deputy leader of the Iran-backed Palestinian group, Hamas, was killed in an apparent Israeli drone strike in Lebanon." www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-67872281

After the Iranians refused Hezbollah authority to attack Israel from Lebanon/Syria. The hawks in Langley/ Pentagon must be salivating.

They can stay salivating for the time being, none of those countries can afford to attack Iran either politically or militarily, all have other things going on. Not saying it's not going to happen, however Soleimani had many enemies, including plenty internally.

I know the Americans are putting it about that it was an internal factional problem....yeah right. I saw the standard "let's wheel out some retired military commander" from the US military to spin that line interview...but really.

You normally ask for evidence, what makes you so convinced at this stage that it is the US? I appreciate they may have history but there are a number of suspects. Could be Saudi backed for all we know.

On that basis which of those outside their sphere has the capacity and wherewithal to undertake such a bombing in Kerman, Iran?

No one inside Iran or in any nearby country has any reason to dislike Qasem Soleimani, those remembering his death and/or the current Iranian regime, so the only logical explanation is Israel/the US....

Love the way two names, the equivalent of John Smith and Jack Jones suddenly appear to fill a vacuum which most were presuming was created by MOSSAD. There is of course a good reason why whatever is left of ISIS hates Iran who were a large part of the ISIS defeat in Syria. As were the Kurds in Iraq, who we rewarded by selling them out to the Turks. All of that is a bit inconvenient to the Americans of course. As is the nature of the horrors unfolding in the Middle East we may never truly know, either way. But if you want an insight to current ISIS capabilities, this review back in August is a good place to start. www.npr.org/2023/08/04/1192245987/where-is-isis-today

It's still considered a threat by experts. Kerman in southern Iran is a small city - not a high-profile area and so not a permanent large security presence. We also know the Iranians like a good insurgency, so again all of the factors this expert is talking about match the recent attack... Naming the bombers as Omar al-Muwahhid ('John Smith') and "Sayfullah al-Mujahid" ('Jack Jones') is standard operating procedure... ...probably still the Americans ordering Mossad to do it though....

You know that, how? Kerman is the regional administrative centre for the Province and has a population of circa 550,000.
Where does this line "we also know that Iranians like a good insurgency" come from?

When something newsworthy happens I want to know more about the topic - people involved, the general area, any relevant history, plus any related news and context before I rush to any conclusions about what actually happened and why. Where does this line "we also know that Iranians like a good insurgency" come from? ...knowledge of recent Iranian history...would you like me to provide some reading material for you...?

OK, you win the Iran-knowledge game of Top Trumps, but yet you still jump to conclusions that completely rule out the most logical explanation for certain things, providing no actual facts to back them up....

Interesting development overnight, drones launched at ships in the Red Sea but includes two anti ship missiles and reportedly a ballistic missile.
The aim of the drones would be to swamp the ship's radar systems and allow the anti ship missiles to get through.
Hitting a ship would escalate things dramatically, leading to counter attacks against launch sites inland.
