WHATEVER the conditions, Barnet would have stuffed Dartford today. Martin Allen would have had them up for it from the word go, told his team to get in their faces and rubber-stamped their authority on the game early on. I agree with those who say that DC has too much respect for these teams and spends too long telling his players: "This will be tough." Perhaps this "experience of managing at this level" isn't so much a bonus after all. That was not a tough game. Dartford would have gone down last season if Salisbury and Hereford hadn't given them a reprieve. They are a poor side in a pretty poor league. They could raise their game all they liked but the truth is they are eight points away from safety for a reason. They looked petrified in the first 15-20 minutes but something was missing with our attitude. DC should be telling the players that Dartford must be low on confidence (they lost their previous game 6-1 at Dover) and to rain shots in from all angles. As it is we only had a couple of shots on target all game, and they were the goals, which both had an element of fortune about them. Also, I know we want our players to pass the ball around and play nice stuff, but today on that pitch we should have resorted to route one, power, winning the second ball and getting in shots. We did completely the opposite and I was totally baffled when Blissett, who I thought was doing a decent job in occupying their central defence, was taken off.

Barnet might have lost today in fact they would be more likely to lose than we would I reckon. Another point on the road and while I agree we need to win more away if we're going to finish top I'm delighted that we're having a good season so far and second in the league. DC has done a great job at addressing the things that have been drastically wrong at our club for years. I'm willing to wait until the end of the season before I decide whether he's has a great season or just a very good one. He certainly hadn't cocked it up so far , look at the table.

Sadly nick your thread title is wrong.
We will be making excuses.
And people on here already have been.
I haven't heard DC's interview yet but will be interesting to hear what he says and whether the interviewer will be brave enough to ask him some difficult questions.
This REALLY was a must win game and we didn't win.

If anything the interviewer was saying it's a difficult pitch etc and DC was saying so what? Get on with it.

Cannot understand why he dropped the Goalie That is a mere point. Could make a case for starting either goalkeeper. The big problem is our failure to beat these lowly teams away.

What I don't understand ..........Barnet have lost two games recently, yet they would have stuffed Dartford ! Martin Allen might make some people excited in the trouser department, I think he is just an average lower league manager, I just don't get the love in !

It is far too early to write off our chances. A few wins and a few defeats elsewhere and anything is possible!

Agree with this, just the sort of game Blissett should be great in. Odd not to have played Dawson from the off to do just this. Thought we had plan to win ugly. Gameplan doesn't seem to have been adjusted for pitch condition

DC has to say that in public though doesn't he? For all we know behind closed doors he might be telling his players a totally different story...............

Martin Allen might make some people excited in the trouser department, I think he is just an average lower league manager, I just don't get the love in ! When and if Martin Allen becomes our Manager, there will be several voices on here every Saturday asserting that one or other of half a dozen other managers (including previous incumbents and the inevitable Gary Johnson) would have done things better. It is the nature of the beast at this level. Even in the top flight winning the wrong trophies (a la Arsenal) is not enough to have fans backing their manager and instead standing up lazy arguments about how so and so would have ensured they won several more PL titles and CL Finals - difference is we do it match by match and in the top flight it is season by season.

DC sounds very genuine in his interview. Sounds like yesterday enough was enough, the fact he mentioned the aldershot and chester games, games that were weeks ago now made me think he was far more peed off at the time than he allowed us to think. Will be interesting what happens this week re any more players ( he didn't deny it in the interview) and team selection next Sat. btw i also think Puddy should have kept his place

Cannot understand why he dropped the Goalie We dropped the keeper because Mildenhall is our best keeper. If your best players are fit they should play.

Mildy simply isn't clearly the best keeper we have. Both our keepers have strengths and weaknesses. genuinely don;t feel one is better than the other. If Icould have Mildy's height and shot stopping, with Puddy's aerial work and distribution I would. I appreciate that we will have to agree to disagree on that one. DC made a big mistake on saturday, for many reasons. He can say what he likes in the interview, but the buck stops with him. Read the match thread. What I wrote there basically was borne out. In fact it makes me more annoyed that we apparently did point out their danger from set pieces, but still let in 2 from them. That is actually quite worrying because either they don't understand the manager, don't care what he says, aren;t good enough to keep out a team who had lost 9 out of 10, or are just plain daft.

I haven't got time to do the exact research but I have a really strog feeling that that didn't happen earlier in the season and he was left out when fit.

Martin Allen might make some people excited in the trouser department, I think he is just an average lower league manager, I just don't get the love in ! I don't like him at all but it is a fact he has a Lge 2 promotion on his CV, and a play-off, and has rescued teams from the drop before. It's pretty disrespectful to ignore those. Many, many managers don't have a League promotion on their CV, or even a play-off.
