It'll be 70 by the time we get there. Probably the right decision but they need to ensure the new workers coming into the workforce can start saving for their own retirement. The so called pension freedoms should be scrapped too, too many are cashing in for today leaving nothing to actually retire on. Also too many opting out, some form of occupational or private pension should be compulsory with tax incentives. I agree to scrapping of pensions freedom to a certain extent, but if people are so thick they don't understand there won't be anything left for them in the future then that's their problem. It will eventually be 'our' problem though, such as through care homes, hospital and so on. Despite what many people such as the Conservatives want to believe, we can't live in total isolation.

Going to be a lot of people living below poverty line. Or trying to. 12 years of ruining the Country and the voters still don't get it.

None of us will ever draw a State Pension will we? It'll be 70 by the time we get there. The so called pension freedoms should be scrapped too, too many are cashing in for today leaving nothing to actually retire on. Also too many opting out, some form of occupational or private pension should be compulsory with tax incentives. I’d guess those who are opting out are doing so for survival reasons now . PS You’re under 70 ? 😮

Got to love JRM. He must be worth about a million votes to Labour.

Is "Long Johnson" euphemistic? Interesting piece nonetheless. "Weeks after Boris Johnson announced his resignation as prime minister, Lord Patten, a former party chairman and former BBC chairman, lamented the persistent "corrupting and debilitating impact of Johnson's premiership on British politics and government." As with 'SARS-Covid-19' there was some debate as to how the condition should be named in general conversation. Eventually, "Long Johnson" was settled on rather than the more familiar "Long Boris". The commentator Paul Waugh listed some of the symptoms of Long Johnson he saw in the bloodstream of the Conservative party: "A debilitating condition that led it to lose its sense of taste, decency and direction." news.sky.com/story/adam-boulton-long-johnson-is-still-plaguing-the-tories-sunak-needs-to-take-decisive-action-12796446

Ben Wallace on manoeuvres ahead of a review due in March, probably leaking a few choice quotes from friends across the pond to embarrass Sunak and Hunt. "Rishi Sunak risks failing in his role as "wartime prime minister" unless he takes urgent action given the growing security threat posed by Vladimir Putin, it has been warned, with calls for a significant hike in spending. A senior US general has privately told Defence Secretary Ben Wallace the British Army is no longer regarded as a top-level fighting force, defence sources have revealed. They said this decline in war-fighting capability - following decades of cuts to save money - needed to be reversed faster than planned in the wake of Russia's war in Ukraine. "Bottom line... it's an entire service unable to protect the UK and our allies for a decade," one of the defence sources said." news.sky.com/story/us-general-warns-british-army-no-longer-top-level-fighting-force-defence-sources-reveal-12798365Expect to see more of this in the coming weeks, especially Deborah Haynes at Sky and The Telegraph.

True, the problem is that we the people seem to want the State to fund an ever increasing diverse part of our daily lives . There needs to be a National conversation about what should be funded etc and what we expect from our Public Services ,at the moment it doesn't work .

The problem in my eyes is the privatisation of so many public services. We keep ending up with worse services but profit is creamed off to shareholders. Too many examples to mention .

To he fair, the army especially has been its own worst enemy and funding issues have been going on for years under governments of all colours. Gordon Brown took a £1bn from the helicopter budget just as we needed them, remember the incidents in Afghanistan trying to evacuate wounded soldiers and having to wait for the US to come to our rescue? Rather than a help, we've largely been a burden.

Yep and don't start me on procurement!! Ajax? 🫡 Precisely, what was it a £5 billion contract and only a handful of Armoured vehicles delivered. The media go on about waste during COVID but my guess the systemic waste in the MO D far exceeds that but barely a whisper .
