Very much looking forward to it now, hectic schedule too as I do need to squeeze some work in between. Is it true only residents can buy booze from supermarkets? There are a couple of alcohol shops for residents but you need a permit to buy. So visitors wont be able to go into a shop and pick any up so to speak. You will have to stick to the bars, fan zones, outside stadiums, music festivals and beach clubs for drinks. Or get very friendly with a local haha!
im assuming no duty free booze can be brought through either?.

We bagged 4 tickets for France Vs Denmark on Cat 2 this morning, cannot wait for that one! There was a decent (and rare) ticket drop yesterday morning. Looked like a few sponsor tickets were returned. I know a couple of people who bagged Argentina tickets. That Argentina v Mexico game is like the golden ticket, bar far the hardest ticket to get! I'm quite grateful that I'm done now with all my tickets. I decided not to really bother with the likes of Argentina or Brazil but I am going to both semi's so there's a good chance of seeing these two play each other in one of them!

It’s obviously not great, but then I was in Russia 2018 for a month as well🤷🏻♂️I suppose I’m taking the same line as the Danes, I’m heading there as an England supporter only having missed less than 5 matches of Gareth’s entire tenure. I don’t agree with any of their beliefs I.E LGBT and the alleged treatment of the workers over there. Whatever the death toll figure actually is, they say 37 on site deaths, the papers say 30 odd thousand. Who knows. Also, I’ve never been to the Middle East in any description, as with all my international travels I’m curious to sample the culture and see what it’s like in that part of the world. Though I’m under no illusions it’ll be exactly like Russia & far from the authentic experience for the time I’m out there, merely jazzed up & putting on a front for the occasion. But I’m ok with that. Fair enough, I am not judging. No one was worried about human rights abuse, LGBTQ, and racism when the USA got it, so maybe it is racism on my part for wondering about that now. I would like to think it is just me moving with the times and growing though. You’re right , the USA has a poor human rights record and has serious problems with racism some states more than others but none of this was mentioned in 94 as far as I can remember and I very much doubt much will be made of it the next time they hold a World Cup. Thing is they’re historically our allies in war and they generally follow the same religion as Britain. Qatar is the Middle East and they’re Muslim. That’s the difference isn’t it and to be honest it’s quite a xenophobic of the west to expect them to change their ways to suit us just because we don’t agree with them. Different cultures should be respected and it needs to work all ways.

I’ve been fortunate to already have seen at least one game in all eight stadiums. Get to do it all again soon!

If gay people are boycotting the World Cup then good on them they’re sticking to what they believe in but I wouldn’t expect a nation to change their culture for the west. Just as we shouldn’t / wouldn’t for them.

I personally do not expect any nation to change what they believe in order to pander to the west, but equally I don't expect the UK to "sportswash" a fascist theocracy or political fascist dictatorship.

I appreciate this should be posted within the "What are you watching" thread but as it's world cup related thought I'd post here. I have just finished watching on Netflix a 4 part documentary called "FIFA Uncovered" which highlights the corruption, fraud, lies etc within FIFA over decades. It is unbelievable what went on and the amounts involved to secure votes etc. Definitely worth a watch.

I don't think it's unreasonable to wish and expect for women's rights, free elections, press freedom, gay rights for all people, all over the world. And in fact be more sympathetic to the everyday people having their lives affected by this, than it is to have sympathy for the dictator that's been on the throne for 40 years. Especially if they've lost these rights and their culture is based on a warlord taking over and bringing in a 1500 year old set of arbitrary saying written in a book that in itself was written to subjecate people. Things have moved on, it's not a different culture it's oppressive military zealots who rule with fear and that's not really fair on anybody. Imo.
