I thought Westbrook showed some absolute quality today. His close control and footwork was a joy to watch. On the flip side both full backs were utter garbage. When leahey failed to lump it forward at the end almost costing us the 3 points I could have exploded. Well done gas the most entertaining home league match I’ve seen in a quite a while. Definite + to our team but he had positives and negatives today. Negatives were poor shot when he had a great chance (why does he place pass / shoot so much) when he should have buried it? Very weak at tackling. He gives a lot of ball away with first touch when unsure of his surroundings? Maybe team mates should shout at each other to tell them TIME? He is great when he glides forward with the ball!

Can’t believe the comments about Hanlan not being good enough but I guess we all have opinions. Penalties get missed and at least it was better than JCHs at Pompey last time we were there. The open miss a few minutes later was worse. Strikers miss chances but I’d imagine that his conversion rate from chances he has to goals scored must be pretty good. He’s got 8 so on target for just under 20 for the season so that could be a total we’d have settled for back in August. The guy brings a lot to the team, often plays as a lone striker, holds the ball up well, scores a few and the opposition put at least one player to mark him with another in reserve so he keeps the defence busy. He also takes a battering from defenders but stands up to it well. Whole hearted player with what appears a great attitude and I’d bet he’s played through some minor niggles with the battering he takes for the team. Obviously not the finished product yet but I hope we keep coaching him to improve because he seems to have a great attitude. Well done to him for his 100% effort when chances have been pretty thin on the ground. Hopefully Tis is starting to address that now. Well done Tis and the team for yesterday, great to see the fight and determination to get the win. UTG! You can say this about any of our players? They all make mistakes and we have a habit of giving the ball away too cheaply and standing off the opposition. When goalies look awkward and make a mistake, the effects can be more dramatic. With Anssi, he exudes quiet calm and confidence. JVS like many have said, is always a worry when the ball is near him as you don't know what will happen? His kicking in second half is an example for improvement? I have never seen a goalie go so deep inside his goal to take a kick? He old not move the ball to the left of the post as he invariably wanted to kick the ball to the left touchline. Hi run up to the ball was almost straight; very unusual and a dead give away to where he was aiming. Finally, his kicking resulted in the ball going too near the touchline and over sometimes. We did not play smart in the last few minutes. There were plenty of times we could have headed towards the corner instead of their goal and wasted a few seconds. Nicholson or was it McMormick went through on his own and had three defenders around him. Why did he not head for the corner instead of losing the ball? Hanlan did similar a few minutes later. Leahy should have twice kicked it away at the end instead of taking that one more touch but I have always liked him and thinks he gets slated too much. He had a very good game apart and almost scored. Kilgour shone at the back. Baldwin did not make a mistake and blocked a few shots. Ehmer slow but well covered by Kilgour. Nichlson is getting better and better wrt confidence, skill and energy. Like someone else said, our Best Buy of the season? Westbrook gets criticism because he has the makings of a class player so needs to step up. If he doesn't get rid of the ball first time so many times and gives it away but has more confidence in himself, he should be running the midfield for us. Needs to learn to shoot a bit more with his head down as well and not up. Oz worked very hard and has been a plus for us. Hanlan needs to learn to stay onside, face their goal much more than ours, try to pass more than trying to dribble past the opposition every time but otherwise a plus for us. Still learning. McCormick definitely a plus. On / off for periods but good between midfield and forwards but also covered a lot defensively at end. Our substitutes were superb again. Did we bring anyone on? Tisdale probably did not want team to lose focus on the game and change anything?!! Great watch but as per usual we make it so difficult. Typical Rovers in everything we do unless we play Northampton who we cruise against normally? UTG

UTG Hanlan probably does need to learn to face the opposition goal more than ours but tbf to him it’s only now, under Tis, that he gets any through balls which he has a chance of taking in his stride to go on goal. We are seeing far more through balls now since Tis was appointed. Before he usually had a ball played up to him and he’d have to turn and go for goal himself and he was often strong enough to create chances for himself. I bet he’s happier now with more support. Also when you play as a lone striker which Hanlan has done a fair bit of he has to hold the ball up until others are close enough to be involved. I think he will get better under Tis’s training and support and I think we’d have been bottom without his performances and goals, although I’m not convinced that he’s a natural goalscorer like some strikers appear to be.

Hanlan's finishing is definitely erratic. Gills fans told us as much but has still scored quite a few goals with lovely finishes. Could do with the same coaching Jason Roberts had

It was two poor teams each with a couple of good players. I thought the best player we had on the day was Kilgour. I thought Upson was pretty slow and dreadful. Hanlon was 4th choice at Gillingham and yesterday showed us why. As for our "Captain", well not very good.
Looking back at when these players were signed , it all looked promising and there were lots of oo's and ahh's, but the reality is a lot of them are pretty poor for this level.

I’m not sure about the criticism of Brandon Hanlon, at least the guy has found the back of the net unlike Tom Nichols. He’s scoring at a rate of around one in three for us and puts himself about.

Better than that , 8 goals in 20 games in all competitions would suggest he’s had a flying start to his Rovers Career. Also suggestions that his conversation rate is poor are off the mark in my opinion. Until a few weeks ago we created very little and until yesterday I can’t remember him squandering many chances and he still got a goal even though he missed a pen and a sitter. The blokes been class for us, our next top scorer has 3 if hanlan only had three we’d most likely be bottom of the league now. Some people on here amaze me they really do.

Conversation rate is fine too.

Personally think Hanlan’s been a tremendous signing so far & whilst he’s far from being the finished product, all the raw talent is there for him to develop into a top player - and in the meantime he’s still almost got a 1-in-2 strike rate for us!
If he can keep learning & working hard to improve certain parts of his game over the next few years then I’ll be amazed if he doesn’t end up in the Championship.
