Lol. I can imagine. Come on, Sweden!!
It's well known in work that I'm up for a bit of banter. Usually when Germany win, I get blokes who I am barely on nodding terms with, arriving at my desk to talk about the latest German win. Hordes of the buggers. Today.......silence. Not a single person has approached me to talk about the football. I'm being sensible and keeping my powder dry until after England play tonight, but I'm primed. Are you going to have a tortilla wrap and nachos for lunch?

See how anxious the Germans are, to come and take the water then.

Some parts of history are, believe it or not, just airbrushed out of their history lessons. Not just the Germans, Nobby. A few years back, while in Moscow, I paid to go on a walking tour of the city. The guide was an earnest young female student, who had lots of local knowledge, but obviously wasn`t into military history. Someone in the group asked her who the statue in Red Square was. She peered at his name, and said " Georgy Zhukov." She paused for a second, then added, " He was a famous Russian admiral." I was tempted to ask why an admiral would be depicted, sitting on a horse. But I didn`t.

That may help towards explaining what happened to the Kursk !

That may help towards explaining what happened to the Kursk ! Probably does. The weight of the horse, must have been a contributory factor.

Any players or teams you are particularly looking forward to watching? Apart from the usual suspects, I'm looking forward to seeing Daniel Arzani (Australia), Moussa Konate (Senegal), Hirving Lozano (Mexico), Emil Forsberg (Sweden), Aleksandr Golovin (Russia) and Pione Sisto (Denmark). Daniel Arzani. Massively hyped over here. Obviously still young. But didn't blow me away with his cameo against Denmark despite the media here making it out to be Ronaldo-esque. Maybe I missed something.

Maybe I missed something. I thought he has looked quite good in his cameo roles, without being spectacular. He's still very young and has hardly even featured in the Australian league, but from the little I have seen, he's got massive potential. www.news.com.au/sport/football/world-cup/socceroos-teenager-daniel-arzani-is-justifying-the-hype/news-story/65ed81ec9eb9f01728ce3c81f52c8624

I don't really watch the PL so it'll be nice to see some of the hyped players from that, Salah, Otamendi etc. Contrary to popular opinion I always like watching Sterling and hopefully he kicks on in an England shirt after having a great season. I've always been a bit interested in Japanese football just cuz it's really bonkers so I'll look forward to seeing them, although they're not as strong as they have been at the moment. However they still have Inui, Kagawa, Okazaki and Honda who provided one of my favorite WC moments back in 2010: Always enjoy watching countries in their first ever finals too. Iceland will be fascinating. Keep an eye out for Yoshinori Muto and Yuya Osako. Both decent players.

A quick update: My company laid everything on today for the German game. There is a huge screen in the main foyer, probably 15 meters x 10 meters. There were benches, free beer, free food, the works. You could even have your photo taken with the German FA Cup, which Frankfurt won this year......
Unfortunately, as we all now know, the filthy Hun lost.............Oh Happy Days.

OK, I'm going to stick my scrawny neck out..........I reckon Germany are going to struggle. There, I've said it ! Why? There are small signs that all is not well in the German camp. Training ground bust-up last week. They haven't won in in their last five games. They don't have a decent striker. Indications are that Jurgen Löw should have left after winning last time. Manual Neuer (keeper) has hardly played in the last ten months. Last week they lost a friendly to Austria. That is Austria who haven't qualified for the Finals and all their players really wanted to be on the beach somewhere. My wife and son may be in tears at the Germans demise, and I will give them both a hug while quietly grinning Spot on Nobby, spot on.

The last time Germany went out at this stage of the World Cup was 1938. Let's hope, for everyone's sake, that they take it better this time.

Fair play to them though. At least they got to Moscow, which is more than their Grandads did!
