Shouldn't you have added "in my opinion" as none of us really have a clue what their intentions are but why spend £1m+ on The Colony and then not develop it. Would make a great plot for building some nice houses on.... Maybe they could build some houses on 9 of the 29 acre land available and use the profit to build the academy With the relaxation of then planning laws coming in this year for green belt land it could be an option they may want to look at ? Could make financial sense but would that require separate planning rules for residential and commercial works? It would be a shame to lose 1/3rd of the land, though, unless it was accomodation for players such as the development squad. Any news or thoughts on when the planning will go in formally?

Unfortunately there will be no regeneration of the Memorial,Stadium or a new training facility whilst the AQ family own the club. They have no money. I think the reality is that they have sh*tloads of money; but are somewhat prudent how they want to spend it. They are bankers after all Perhaps 'asset rich but cash poor' and prudent in how they spend their clients' money.

Nothing happening on that front and i don't expect any anytime soon

It's amazing, buy a site without knowing quite what you're going to be doing with it. Sit on it for several months, speak to project managers eventually, maybe one day put in some basic plans. All while after they first set foot on the land after purchasing it, they said they'd like us to have moved in this season wasn't it!? Or was it next season? Either way, talk is cheap, actions speaker louder, and they've achieved almost the square total of f all in their pursuit of their original goal. We as fans didn't set it, they did!

My brain was trying to tell me that it was a similar word to bankers, but not bankers 😂

Okay Topper, it is my opinion, but it appears to be backed by solid fact at the moment. Apart from buying a piece of land in South Glos, what else have they spent money on? New stadium. Nah Have they backed DC in transfer windows by ensuring he gets the best players to take the club forward. Nah The club would have known The Snake was off before the deadline, did they go out and get a proper replacement. Nah Have they actually done anything with the training ground except have a big fence erected around it (to protect their investment from being colonised by a tribe of Pikeys) and payment for said fence is in doubt. Nah That land purchase was a shrewd piece of business. They have land-banked the best part of 30 acres. When planning and green belt rules are relaxed in order to build houses and schools for the relentless immigration the country is trying to deal with, that land will increase in value 20 fold. Have they actually done anything meaningful, you know, actually spent some cash, on developing the Mem. Nah DC has said he presented Hamer with a shopping list that included Poundland, Aldi and Waitrose. The only place he'll be able to get players will be from the equivalent of the charity shop. I wonder if football has a player acquisition equivalent of the food bank. I reckon that's where DC will be headed. Why? Because there is no money. All the evidence points to this I'm afraid.

The elephant in the room is going well at Villa They already only need 3 points to avoid any dreamed up relegation scrap.

This thread was never about City anyway. It was started to say, look at what a local club with good facilities can achieve, if only we had the same. It should be served as motivation to achieve something similar and to have a bit of the action. Did chuckle at the 5-0 tho.... exactly. we should be trying to elavate ourselves to where they are rather than hope they implode and join us. Two bristol clubs at the top of the championship and ultimately in the premiership. We seem satisfied when we get a rare chance to gloat that will probably only be temporary. Totally agree and it was like that when I started going on my own. Don Megson had us in the same league and the derbies and even glos cup were brilliant. Can you imagine 18,000 for the Glos cup now ? The young ins don’t believe me but it’s well documented. Some of the scariest times were when I had to walk from the tote end, behind the north stand then face up to thousands of Ted’s coming out of the Müller road end. It was my only route back to Kingswood. Well, I could have gone the other way, walked under the M32 bridge but same outcome. Thousands of Ted’s. Got some good stories of that experience

Let’s just say that SL is significantly wealthier.

Taking up your point here about the relaxing of greenbelt land.
The Colony site is right next to the busiest motorway junction in southwest England so hardly all tranquillity so maybe a likely candidate for housing or business buildings.
What if
The colony was developed for housing and commercial use and the profits used to partially fund rebuilding the mem. Then another greenbelt site was bought for a training camp ?
My own view is though that the Colony will have new planning consent by easter and had work started upon it by the summer.

I came into some money today, i ran out of tissues. It makes a change from a sock Jock. See I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it. How many goals will the Man City machine score on Tuesday night? I’m having a few quid on 5 - 0, 6 - 0 & 7 - 0, not sure that I’ve gone high enough though? A nice 6 - 0 please and then what a pointless 2nd leg that will be at trashton lol!

A nice 6 - 0 please and then what a pointless 2nd leg that will be at trashton lol! Pointless but not penniless - they'll probably sell out plus t.v. money. I know a disabled sheed season ticket holder paying £7.50 at Man city next week but fleeced £35 at trashton for the 2nd leg.

The mem will still look the same in 5 years and the land at the colony will be sold for housing, why spend more than peanuts on a training ground when you know you can make a handsome profit on the land within a few years, i suspect that is why the training ground project was massively scaled back. These investment bankers aren't stupid.

But I guess posting such nonsense helps you with your obvious anti ALQ agenda.

Perhaps 'asset rich but cash poor' and prudent in how they spend their clients' money. All the information on the owners assets is there if you look. Let’s just say that SL is significantly wealthier. I've never understood why the Teds use that to try to score points of off us. I'd love it if the Al Qadis had masses of money to spend on the club, but it's hardly something you'd trot out in support of a claim that yours is the better team. 'We can buy ourselves any amount of success, so it doesn't matter how sh** we are!' Having said that I'd love it if the Al Qadis had masses of money to spend on the club, what I'd love even more is obvious evidence that the family have the best interests of the club at heart and news of a solid practical plan getting under way to ensure it's future success, even if it does have to mean 'careful' spending. Surely one of the brains they keep hiring and parting company with can come up with something. Wasn't there a guy involved with the design of Wembley Stadium on board at one point? Good grief. Get real, and get on with it. A couple of passing mentions of revamping the Mem and a few clever but useless soundbites don't indicate progress. 'Evolution not revolution' is all very well, as long as you're evolving in the right direction and not backwards into bog paper like yesterday's trees. We don't need every last detail of future plans, just something considerably more substantial than we're getting now. We're investors too, even without financial return involved - nobody buys match tickets or shirts etc for a club that will be dead on it's arse tomorrow, so it ought to be obvious that we're expecting a club with a future in return for our money. A proper explanation of how that's going to happen before the Mem drops to pieces around the new(ish) scoreboard would be nice.
