8 days ago, I nearly started a thread on this forum just to say how important the game against Grimsby was. At that point we were sitting 7 points behind Barnet. A points gap that I felt was as much as we could afford from here on in and that last weekend had the feeling of a make or break scenario. Both us and Barnet had games that could have gone either way even though ours was a lot tougher on paper.
8 days later here I am sitting here just 1 point behind and confident we can do this. Even yesterday I was nervous, as the game started as I feared it might, with us not playing very well and a bit of frustration appearing from the crowd. However, we rode the storm and come through with 3 vital points. We now go into Tuesday's game against Braintree with the opportunity of going 2 points clear at the top and we can also pile the pressure on Macclesfield who could end up falling 6 points behind us without kicking a ball.
Let's get behind the lads against Braintree, we can do this if we're all together. No room for complacency. We have 11 cup finals from here on in and it is as good as in our hands now.

7 point gap (plus GD) in 13 games seemed like a lot. NOT insurmountable of course, but quite a gap. Especially considering that previously we hadn't been able to reel it in, despite getting decent results and being unbeaten since October!
1 point gap in 11 games is obviously extremely do-able.
P.s. the GD may be slowly reducing but I doubt it will make much difference now. If Barnet continue to struggle and we do well we may be close to level on GD but we'll win by a clear point anyway. If they perk back up their GD will stay better and we'll realy HAVE to get 1 point ahead of them, by hook or y crook.

That Grimsby win really was big.. Before that game I was thinking that if we're going to lose our unbeaten run, this is the most likely game it'll happen (along with Maccs away). To win it was brilliant from our boys. We need to make sure we don't waste that now by dropping silly points elsewhere.
Yesterday was a great start to making sure it doesn't go to waste. 1-0 and hit the post about 4 times, in a game where we didn't play very well! Good signs.
So badly hoping that we grab another 3 points on Tuesday. We've really got to carry this run on. We desperately needed Barnet to have a bad run, and they have now, but we can't expect that to carry on.
Now that we have earned ourselves an opportunity to take top spot, we've got to put EVERYTHING in to making sure we grasp it. Then, hold onto it with a vice grip!!
We really ought to get big big crowds in the coming home games. Regardless of what division we're in, we haven't won a league for 2.5 decades (as much as it pains me to say that!). Surely this is the time for ALL Gasheads to come together and show our team what kind of club/support they're playing for!

We've got to keep the lads going, although they seem pretty united as a group of players already and clearly believe in themselves.
We have to show total belief as well from the terraces, an absolute can do will do attitude, so there is zero negativity and nothing but a strong positive vibe pouring from the crowd.
A cauldron of noise backing our boys and when sticky patches crop up we get louder still. Let's will them on.

It seems more about Barnet blowing up than us doing anything spactular although a 3 game winning run, hopefully 4 come Tuesday night, clearly helps, as I doubt many of us expected Barnet to lose at Wrexham and then home to Grimsby, particularly after drawing level with the latter in the 2nd half.
Now another interesting set of fixtutres this week both our games look winnable but Grimsby a tough looking game at Altrincham as do Macclesfield at Eastleigh.
The big question is if we hit the summit can we cope with the pressure that might bring?

The big question is if we hit the summit can we cope with the pressure that might bring? I think we probably can. We have several older professionals in the squad in Mildenhall, Monkhouse, McChrystal and Mansell as well as youngters who appear to be very grounded and level headed in players like Parkes, Brown and Lockyer headed up by a good manager. We are the form team in the division and I think if we can get that top spot, we will hang on.

While away I listened to DC talk about people getting edgy on the terraces, and it was noticeable to me within 10 minutes of Saturdays game. Instead of encouragement and a bit of patience/belief, people were very quick to have a groan and get frustrated with a misplaced pass or broken down play. Understandable, but I can understand how it filters through to the players.

In terms of stats, macc away will be far harder than Grimsby away Grimsby home record isn't actually great; their away record is though. Macc have joint best home record, with us. p.s. Barnet are at alty this weekend, not Grimsby.

It seems more about Barnet blowing up than us doing anything spactular To be fair, we have won 7 and drawn 3 of the last ten games, taking 24 from a possible 30... We have got some tough fixtures coming up, but are last 5 during April are pretty good and I would want 11 points min from this lot... H Chester A Kiddy H Southport A Dover H Alfreton

Teams at the bottom are not always easier games that those at the top (especially away games). Some teams sack managers and get bounces, some spend desperate cash on loans / free agents, some crumble, some get on a roll... injuries, suspensions. Phew. i think if WE can keep the amazing run we have had and the clean sheets (9 in last 13 games), then we just need to sort out goal scoring and we'll be right up in the mix, whoever we play.

I honestly fancy Alty to take something from Barnet and Eastleigh to take something from Maccy on Saturday, and I fancy us beating Braintree and Gateshead tbh, clear from Barnet's and Maccy's games in hand after Saturday's fixtures I reckon. Utg

I don't mean they WILL under estimate them, I mean they could get burnt if they don;t give them some respect and just remember the 5-0 drubbing they gave them in September. I suspect both teams are a vastly different prospect at the moment.
