No, this isn't a thread dragged up from years ago (when this forum didn't exist...)
I was wondering how long Buckle will last at our friends in Cheltenham?
Mark Yates was sacked when they were 18th in the table, 10 points from the relegation zone. They are now 22nd, 1 point from the relegation zone (and they really would be in the zone if York City had one more point as they have a vastly superior goal difference).
Buckle has Won 1 -Drawn 5 - Lost 6 GD of -9 Average of 0.66 points per League game
and they lost to Dover at home in his only cup game.
I'm not saying Yates was perfect but they were top of the table in early September! He averaged 1.22 points per game.
Buckle, the gift that keeps on giving.

I really don't want them to sack him. I hope they stay up (just) and then we go up, so next season at the mem we can give him the kind of reception that shows him we haven't forgotten what him (and McGhee) did to our club, and we never will!
I'll give the Blackthorn a miss in favour of behind the away dugout for that one!

His record there is truly awful already. Not sure how many places they've dropped but they're now sitting on the dotted line. I had a peek at their forum last night and they're almost all desperate for him to go - and not just for the results.
Not that it will bother him. He'll keep up his cheeky chappie manner and it will all be someone else's fault.
Nothing against the club but it would be nice if he could take themout of the League, just as a formal recognition of his abilities.

Interview after Southend (1:52): "One win in 12... have you ever been on a run like that before? "No, I haven't but I've never taken over a club going in the wrong direction..." That's a bit dubious (we had one league win in 11 before he was sacked, I believe). Also, "There were a few chants suggesting they don't believe you are the man who can turn this around." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31106154

The more I listen to the bloke speak, the more rubbish he seems to talk. Most Cheltenham fans want him gone already and have already sussed the bloke out. He is still making the same mistakes, trying to change too much too quick and being allowed to bring in his own players yet still blaming the old regime. He sounds very defeatist in his latest interview and says about Cheltenham being on a downward spiral when he joined. Well I'm not being funny but he's had long enough to start turning it around. A decent manager like Micky Adams has turned Tranmere around, they were bottom when he took over but they are now above Cheltenham. I don't seem him making any excuses.
I really believe Cheltenham are going down and it will be RIP to Paul Buckle's managerial career.

He knows he's lying. He has been on a run like that. He took over us when we'd just been relegated. You can't get a club going much more ''in the wrong direction'' than being relegated. You'd think that the interviewer would've researched Buckle's previous record, if he was going to ask that question... then he would've been able to bluntly say ''well that's a complete lie - what about Bristol Rovers!?''
This is why I don't want him to get sacked... surely this would be his last managerial job. I want one more chance to let him know how we feel before he's done!

i know cheltenham is posh but that is a very formal chant "we don't believe you are the man who can turn this around."

I had a peek at their forum last night and they're almost all desperate for him to go - and not just for the results. They've only actually dropped 4 places (18th to 22nd). The big problem is that they were 10 points from the relegation zone when he was appointed but now they are only 1 point away. When will this guy be found out?? Bizarre to think that last season they were talking about Yates giving it one more season before moving on to bigger things. Ditto Leyton Orient in Lge 1. Be careful what you wish for...

I think he's football's equivalent to those con men on Rogue Traders or cowboy builders or whatever it is on daytime TV. He goes around preying on trusting elderly board members, posing as a football manager with a bogus ID card. DO NOT ANSWER THE DOOR TO THIS MAN!

I'd love them to finish 22nd (whilst losing on the last day) and them finding a professional reason to sack him afterwards. Cheltenham might be local rivals but they're a club progressing the 'right' way...?

To be honest, anyone who took the Cheltenham job was in for a tough task.
Mark Yates overachieved season after season with the budget/squad he had at his disposal.
Chelt Chairman will put in an S.O.S call to Yates in Mid-March?
Edit: Just seen the story above. Change S.O.S call to Mid-Feb.

And on their forum they're all crying out for John Ward!!!! You couldn't make it up!!! Gonna cobble together every single penny to my name - maybe even sell the house and live on the streets for a few months - and stick everything I have on Cheltenham going down. Wow.

It seems that Buckle has been able to bring a fair share of his own players in January so he's been given the funds to turn it around. He's been there nearly 3 months now which is long enough to assess what is wrong and how to change it but results are getting worse.
