That's a very unkind thing to say. I thought he played well again yesterday and when he left the pitch is when we struggled. Just responding to your post stating he's an up and coming international when he's clearly not, for whatever reasons, at the moment. Subbing him off and leaving Lindsay on was one of MT's stranger decisions yesterday when Conteh and Ward have usually impressed together recently. Are you saying that Conteh has lost his place on the bench for Sierra Leone due to a lack of form at Rovers? If so, that means you must think that Sotiriou has been called up for Cyprus because he has been playing well at Rovers?

Nice heartfelt op.
Empathise. Long have I said it might be the club that you (the reader) recognises, but for me those days are long gone.
I suppose it's the culmination of a lot of what your post portrays, but in essence to simplify it I feel now more than ever the club is run as a business. Where emotional detachment has slowly been eroded, to the point in which: all I feel now, is a commodity to the anonymous folk who just want my cashless money.
Unfortunate for some. Not so unfortunate for others.

Not so unfortunate for others. I blame Jimmy Hill. I completely understand your position and to a certain extent, I agree. However, I have always struggled with the emotional vs the financial. Someone has to pay for the club and that someone should be us fans.

Often hearing people with no affiliation to football saying it's just 22 blokes kicking a bag of air around. Of course, as a football fan with a connection to a club makes that view preposterous! But, when it consider that I no longer have any connection to any of the players-there isn't any from my local area anymore or any relations to people, friends or family nearby. The owners have rotated in from the East, and anonymous is a fair description albeit we know their names. Everything associated is overpriced, accepting the comment here that the club needs the fans to pay but the costs in an entertainment arena should reflect the product. In comparison to other forms of entertainment for 90 minutes I'd say it's poor value, especially the comfort and basic amenities aspect. Football has changed, morphed into a business especially over the last 40 years. This is fine for supporters who want idols, distraction, routine, and are happy to pay for overpriced unnecessary gizzets and confectionery. For others who are used to feeling a sense of belonging and maybe notice the changes from before, or have alternative options, which there are many, the lure of the Mem probably isn't strong enough.

I think what you're expressing here 79 is the underlying reason that the thought of Olly coming back to manage seemed attractive to some of us. Not because he's the greatest coach in the world but the feeling of some passion and connection with the club. You can call it nostalgia but it's more than that, it's a sense of belonging and of some emotional connection to the club at all levels.

Simple facts are, I and a few others were hammered after we said the Reading second half performance was a myth, look where we are now.
Loss to Exeter in Pizza Cup, ET against plumbers and insurance salesmen, two home league games, “one” goal and couldn’t even score against a relegation threatened Crawley.
I don’t care about the bar, post, keeper Saturday, I keep repeating myself, the curve with this manager is terrible. Now we are feeling sorry for him because people are not being paid and Wael is on a goodbye tour………his tactics are his tactics, Reading are in a worse state, Exeter probably have half our budget.
The manager is a reflection of his side, he’s the PR spokesman for the club, he’s the marketing manager as well. It’s dire stuff, the handbrake comes off, it’s back on straight away in games. He can’t win games tactically, we start well, the opposition works us out. We go behind, the handbrake comes off like at Reading and we had our medals for effort.
We don’t win games, we don’t convincingly beat teams, it’s always close and we just about win when we do once in a while.
He’s managed now 52 games, his average is 1.12pg, over a 46 game calendar season that’s 51.52 points, I will be kind, 52 points. £1.5 million on fees for players, no brand or style of football, I keep repeating Cogs and his budget and we knew his style.
Where I am is this manager will never make us a 6th place chasing side regardless of what’s going on in the background.

Unfortunately football, like life has moved on and I totally "get" what others are saying. For me, my guest appearances back to watch the Gas are aligned to meeting up with London Gas and other football mates. The drinks, banter before and after the game and genuine friendship created out of our love for one team makes it worthwhile. Few lower league teams will see players last more than a few years. The better one's will move upwards and social media means that those that stumble don't get given much time to turn it around before they are moved on. I can see the drawof non-league football to some, where things haven't changed quite as much. UTG

You do wonder what's going on in the background as if the owners were really trying to bring in Gary Rowett earlier in the season, then how is MT still in a job after failing to pick up 3 pts in two home games this week?, are they seriously considering the rumoured takeover offer, or hoping for an increased offer, if they are then they aren't going to want to replace MT if the new group intend replacing him anyway if they do takeover? If MT is hearing all these rumours then no wonder he's playing with the handbrake on, when he gets home after each match is wide probably asks him if he's still got a job!

Are you saying that Conteh has lost his place on the bench for Sierra Leone due to a lack of form at Rovers? If so, that means you must think that Sotiriou has been called up for Cyprus because he has been playing well at Rovers? That's not how it works. The only variable to international call up is not current form for your div3 footy side. Sierra Leone has many more options for players for a start.

Look at the comment I was responding to, it was suggesting that Conteh had lost his place due to performance.

Watched Kamil's last performance for Sierra Leone and on that evidence I'm not surprised he's been dropped. Salford City's Tyrese Fornah now in starting XI.

Don't suggest he's been dropped for poor performance or Gasify will be worrying he's not going to be sold for £1m! Although it's a joke he's been dropped for a L2 player, as any player progressed under MT?
