I quite like the Electoral College system. Without it many states would basically become irrelevant and the candidates would focus on the large cities and ignore a lot of what the middle of the country cares about Middle of the Country? Most of the largest cities are on the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines. More people live in the city of New York than live in total in 37 of the states (most of those states being in the middle of the country). If it was a straight popular vote the candidates would focus on the big cities rather than the other two thirds of the states

First result of US election is in. The tiny community of Dixville Notch has declared a 3-3 draw.

First result of US election is in. The tiny community of Dixville Notch has declared a 3-3 draw. Probably a microcosm of the election itself. I'm expecting Harris to win the popular vote but actual electoral college votes will be close, probably involving recounts and lawyers. I'm not a betting man, but if I were I'd wager Pennsylvania will effectively determine the winner.

I still think Trump will win despite Harris getting a bigger share of the vote. I'm not a fan of our first past the post system but it looks positively enlightened compared to the US one which looks more like a Trade Union block vote from the 1970s. I quite like the Electoral College system. Without it many states would basically become irrelevant and the candidates would focus on the large cities and ignore a lot of what the middle of the country cares about Like the situation where the candidate with the most votes loses? Is that what the middle of the country cared about in 2016 when Clinton beat Trump by 3 million votes?

This is just the start . ☹️ I will go to bed tonight and hope to wake up with Kamala 🤭🤭 According to Justin Webb on the radio yesterday, half past midnight will reveal Georgia and anything close could point to Harris. A big Trump win and it'll probably be him. The next likely significant declaration would be around 5 or 6am our time so should get a bit of beauty sleep.

To clarify - I don't want Trump to win. I just cant be bothered with wondering about all the panic if he does. F*ck it, if he wins I can ignore politics for a while. If he loses, we have to hear about all the sh** for years, the riots that'll come, the moaning, the prison sentences - everything. And then in 4 years we'll do it all again anyway.
