...of a talent. I know it isn't Rovers related but thought it was worth a thread. m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/31113011I would have given my co ck and bol locks to make a living out of playing football, at any level. Shame to see someone work so hard to 'make it' and then quit so young. Seems a real waste.

But when I read it earlier, I actually had quite a bit of respect for him. Think of all the mercenaries we've had over the years; he could have easily carried on picking up a reasonable wage by putting in minimum to no effort - instead, he wants to make an honest go of things outside of football. We all (or at least the vast majority of us) would have grown up dreaming of playing football - but it's such a short career. Each to their own I say - I don't think it a waste to be honest.

Recognises he isn't going to get any further than the Confetence now and therefore long term not going to earn enough to secure his life long term so making a realistic decision - sensible decision to look and train now for a new career then leave it too late

The level of scrutiny these guys are put under... I used to hate playing inter-tutor tournaments at school. Kids coming up and screaming in your face for not throwing your face welcomingly into a speeding ball on a bitter winter's afternoon. Nah. (Agree with your post whole-heartedly btw)

Perhaps an example of why some "part time" teams we meet at this level have some talented players, even if they don't play football as their only living. What is to say once he finds his feet in a new career he won't return to part time football .....

I think I kind of respect his decision. He has given a valid reason and at the end of the day football is not for everyone. He wants to go into a career which will last longer than football and he will end up financially better off. Think of all the ex players who threw away their careers on booze, drugs and other social problems.
