Goalkeeper from Glastonbury to join Wolverhampton Wanderers SOMERSET footballer Arthur Nasta will join Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers as a professional starting on July 2024. The 18-year-old goalkeeper from Butleigh will join Wolves in their seventh consecutive campaign back in the topflight of English football, having been promoted to the Premier League in 2018. Arthur, who is an Upper Sixth boarder at Millfield School, said: “I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to play the sport I love so much in a top professional environment.” Arthur, who joined Millfield in Year 9 on a sports scholarship, has thrived during his time on the Millfield football programme. He said: “I have learned a huge amount from Scott Laird, Millfield’s first team coach, whose experience at a professional level, caring personality, and ability to communicate were critical for my development. "I was also very privileged to work with Steve Phillips, a top goalkeeper coach, and to be surrounded by many other talented players. "All these people have enabled me to learn and pick up countless tips and pieces of advice along the way.” Arthur was able to set up his personalised development plan with the football department, including one-to-one goalkeeping sessions and playing his first full season of men’s football for Larkhall Athletic Football Club. He said: “Working with Steve Phillips, a professional who played in hundreds of games in the English Championship, has been a huge privilege. "Steve has been extremely invested in my journey and wants the complete and utter best for everyone he works with. "His training sessions are arduous but also fun and exciting. "I felt reassured that my coaching came from a true professional who was able to support me all along. "I have also been lucky to have had support from all the coaches and the S&C department, who have been able to create and tailor a plan that I have followed throughout my time at school.” Arthur, who is currently taking his A Levels, is able to keep up with his schoolwork alongside his training schedule. “I make sure to communicate regularly with my housemistress and with the football coaches to get their feedback," he said. "Communication and feedback enabled me to improve both my sporting and academic life while at Millfield.” Millfield Senior boys lead coach Scott Laird said: “Everyone at Millfield is so proud of Arthur, and this is a testament to his hard work and dedication on and off the pitch. "The way Arthur trains and plays is a great example for any athlete who is striving to get to the top. "I would like to thank him for everything he has given to Millfield and Millfield Football.” www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk/sport/24352493.goalkeeper-glastonbury-join-wolverhampton-wanderers/

"What are the exact catchment rules? Because Chelsea and their “foundation” are littered everywhere" Alfie House @alfiehouseecho "Bit confusing so I’ve added more details to the story. Basically, for U9-U11 you still have to be within an hour commute of the academy’s principle venue to be registered. Believe up to U14 it’s 1hr 30 but you can recruit nationally at 15/16 now as we’ve seen due to full time training models"

It looks like Bristol Live have totally missed that he joined Fulham's Academy after leaving Rovers, it's not clear if Rovers just released him and he then joined Fulham or there was some agreement between the two clubs when he joined them. It seems Fulham couldn't have been overly impressed with him as they must have released him earlier this summer? fulham.fandom.com/wiki/Jordan_Iwhiwhu

Did you not read the article? He was on trial with Fulham and scored 4 in a game vs Luton, which alerted them to the player.

If he didn't then you have to assume they also didn't feel he was worth a contract. Let's see if he now actually ever plays for Luton.

He didn't join Fulham, just a trial. Anyone can edit that page. You can assume what you want, but perhaps he thought the pathway to the first team was more likely at Luton than Fulham? Who knows. We released that lad Evander Grubb previously, who then shortly after joined Huddersfield Town after a brief spell at Bristol Manor Farm. He's back in non-league now. Could be a similar situation with this lad. In fairness, I don't think many have come back to bite us on the arse so we have to hope their judgement is similarly correct on this occasion.

Iwhiwu has been playing for Stoke Gifford and Mangotsfield (think there’s another local side too), right under Rovers nose.
SGS is a bit like an American college system now, where they snap up a lot of the local talent. They midweek games against other colleges and academies, but also advise them they have to play for mangotsfield or Stoke Gifford on a Saturday. If they say they wanna play for another team, they’re effectively told they can’t play for the college. We experienced this at my team with a few young’uns coming through our club.
But if we had any sense, we’d have scouts at most mangotsfield and Stoke Gifford games, as the best lads coming through SGS will be playing there.

Jaydn Crosbie, an old school no 9 was banging the goals in for Mangos and SGS and just signed a deal with Torquay. One to monitor. Quite like Jack Nunn at Mangos too. One of the other clubs with SGS links is Keynsham Town, who are coached by ex-City Marvin Brown. Theo Jeremy and Jake Wilson were both trialists at City last season.

Every club will let players go, that come back to bite them on the backside. A kid of players develope later than others, or they get let go, while they are having a growth spurt and getting used to their body. It will temporarily effect their coordination and balance and some players will look shocking until they adjust!

Just to clarify that Keynsham Town has no link to SGS. Keynsham Towns co - management is run by TPS Ash Morgan and Marv Brown both who are unbelievable. They run a college course like SGS but via their company Total Pro Soccer (TPS), in South Bristol. Some unbelievable talent via the college course, TPS, and ex academy that have a pathway to Keynsham Towns first team. Last season Keynsham were the youngest team in the toolstation, a few ex Rovers, City and an ex Reading Academy players. Just go onto You Tube search Total Pro Soccer to see some of the talent. Just to be clear I have nothing to do with TPS, just enjoy the great opportunity for the lads and watching the lads play entertaining first team mens football.

Seen Jordan play quite a bit as he played U13/14 with my son. Unfortunately his old man is the pushiest parent ever and was forever hoiking him around here there and everywhere. Trials at FGR, agreed to join, then decided not to. Ended up playing Div 3 kids football just to make him look even better than he was. Stayed for 3/4 games etc etc etc Good luck to him but not sure he will ever play any further up than he is currently. Was playing County league last season the same as my boy.

No sure of the actual numbers but Liverpool released something like 8 players that were either first or second year pros.
If you take into account all the Prem teams there must be some talent available. Maybe they are just not big or strong enough yet.
Didn't there used to be a trials match for released Prem players in the past.
Didn't we pick up Zamora like that and City got Lita (I did hear we spotted him and had talks but City just tripled what we were going to pay - deja Vu).

I follow Harvey Greenslade's dad on X / Twitter and he reposted a really interesting piece about WBA vs Man city Youngsters in youth cup semi final and where the kids are now. lets say Man city players have all gone on to have a career (with exception to 1 or 2) the WBA players are all playing non league and not that high a level either! Showing that even Cat 1 youngsters from a top Championship side failed to hold onto any typ of EFL league football. So perhaps Recruiting off Prem cast off is the only way forwards. Have a read its very interesting... x.com/J7_WBA/status/1800178076997042199

It’s so much harder to try and climb upwards in the leagues. Not impossible, just need a bit of luck and know a few people. Plus a cup run helps big time. Ultimately, wherever you end up as an academy player it’s all down to someone’s opinion at that moment in time. All these players have a natural talent otherwise they wouldn’t be picked up. Unfortunately it’s who coached them from a young age that shapes the talent. Plus we forget at Rovers that the coaches we attract are normally young ex academy players / college course kids using us as a League name on their CV before moving on. We will of course pick up coaches from around our league position. We don’t fish in the same pond for our coaches like Man City UTD ect ect. I can’t think of the last Saints coach we have tempted. Even MSE’s old man ex Saints u18s and now Welsh coach couldn’t be persuaded with his own lad in the club. It’s a shame for us, but u21 / 23 cost fortunes. Probably better to spend that money on buying a first team at our level. Chicken and egg again.

Any idea what the situation is with the 16-year-old Ryan Crawford? Seemed to be progressing nicely and apparently offered a scholarship with Rovers, but has now signed for Weston.

Strange one this Pirate as if offered a scholarship back in October and maybe his mum saying they are only going public with it now means they must have signed it? With this in mind did Weston pay a fee for him? Unless he did not sign the scholarship back then but that would seem strange as why go public with it? The other ting is normally when players get offered early scholarships it would mean there is interest from other clubs so they get offered early scholarship to increase there value and stop bigger clubs just getting away with compensation Value so its all a bit Strange.
