Wow, lads got back from training tonight and according to an u18 scholar that turned up to train with us this evening that have all been released. Can’t clarify from one player but Jezz what a waste of time for the poor guy. Just tells you all you need to know about the plans. Glad my lad is 2 years ahead at men's football at the same age. We really need to sort this out at owner level. I just don't think the MT and the current staff have the time or patients for the younger ones. Shaw was signed well before Taylor arrived as clubs were looking at him and I think he was played to help push him to be sold, spoken with a few scouts and he is either love him or they don't know what the fuss is about but that is football 'Opinions'! The one that surprises me is Lawrence being offered a new deal and watching Shaw come on in front of him the weekend gone must have been hard to watch, Lawrence is okay but didn't pull up many trees at Tiverton so he is the only one under Taylor to be kept on. It certainly does put pay to the Development squad for a while with just a bunch of First year scholars coming up to Under 18's league football and Shaw and Lawrence? And i cant see Taylor using valuable money to buy in bunch of 18-19 yr olds. So Cat 2 Academy status will have to wait and any youngsters wanting to get involved putt off as the Club has no clear Pathway through to first team. I do get it, 1st team manager has to win to keep his job. He will try and find the best players to do that. At our level you can’t do that with kids. However, for me it’s so short term, another load of academy prospects bite the dust again. Why invest money at cat 3. Just go for cat 4 save a load of money. I can speak from experience, my lad was with Rovers from 7 to 14. Fantastic experience. But now 2 years mens football experience at step 5/6 and still only 18, only this last week Players Player Golden Boot for 2023/2024. So can’t be that shabby 😂😂😂😂. It must come down to pound notes, we have released some really good players last few seasons. Good luck to the latest bunch. I’ve said it time and time again, go all in at Cat 2 develop for the long term, or just do Cat 4 and save a load.

The club has enough wrong with it without people jumping on this, it's standard practice for every club in the world to release a bunch of the U18's at the end of their final youth season.

Guessing any progression being aimed for in terms of a development squad/academy is linked with the supposed training ground development. Didn't they say they needed to have certain things available on site in order to tick boxes to be eligible for raising our academy status. As well as wanting them all to be able to train alongside the first team rather than somewhere else? Probably be a little while before anything changes if so.

Completely understand this. I think you have missed my point. Either have a development squad to find one two or if we are lucky a handful of players, or carry on pouring endless amounts of money into a squad like we have in the first team at the moment. Forgive me I don’t see us currently as a potential Championship team anytime soon. I stand corrected but keep doing the same thing over and over and you will get the same result over and over.

Trying to find information about our academy team is very difficult. I will try to post a link of the latest results / fixtures. I asked a serious question about 6 months ago asking were they played ?. I suggested the U.W.E but no one seemed to know. I'm sure fans would like to show support to the odd game . Click below for an outstanding win against Brentford recently. Interesting all opposition teams write a review on their official website of the games. Ours is non existent. www.brentfordfc.com/en/news/article/academy-bristol-rovers-u18-3-brentford-u18s-1

I see the Grecians lost every game on display on that page, even the FGR one that has the scores against the badges the wrong way round!

From what I know we currently have one of the worst youth setups in the EFL so it does not surprise me one bit that a lot of these players got released watching the fa youth cup game it was clear as day that most if not all of them would never reach the required standards which is an indictment on the whole setup itself. There was one lad from the Cheltenham side who was clearly levels above and it showed that if Cheltenham can get these sorts of players, why can't we? It's embarrassing that in a city like Bristol, our academy is this poor. Got people like Max Allyne who was a local lad taken from under our noses and went to Southampton got sold for multi-millions of pounds and is in the Man City academy

Perhaps MT & GF can steer the Academy in the right direction as JB/EJ seemed to have no interest in developing that side of the club.

I think the academy has been neglected over the last few years. I can recall a few of our promising youngsters being taken by other clubs. So we were left with ones less likely to make it. Maybe, we thought what is the point. Plus C**y have brought through more youngsters and are streets ahead of us. So unless a player is a big gashead, who are they going to pick??
One of the reasons why training facilities are just as important as a stadium, if not more important. Hopefully we can improve in this area and bring through some good youngsters.

Will Ollie Dewsbury get more opportunities with the first team next season, I wonder? If you're good enough, you're old enough.

City have offered 9 first year pro contracts.
Hopefully our approach is quality not quantity.
As they had a big run in the FA Youth cup maybe we should have a look at some of the young players recently released by City.
Would save a fortune in relocation fees and would save the players the stress of looking for digs in a new town.
