Very nice to hear a smattering of applause from Gasheads for Lincoln left winger when he got subbed late on Saturday. Some performance that and good to know we can reluctantly acknowledge quality in an opponent. Rare to see such a natural footballer in L1. I remember same for Jamal Campbell-Ryce for Orient about 20 years ago.
Anyone remember anything similar from more recent?

Whole stadium gave him a clap when he was subbed, was different class in this league

Campbell-Ryce's performance was outstanding.
Diamond was good but he was massively helped by Joeys strange team selection, formation and tactics.
I remember Stan Bowles dictating play for Brentford at Eastville He hardy moved but his teammates passed to him and he then used his right peg like a wand setting up chance after chance. Luckily, we had Alan Ball do similar.
I remember Akinola's bicycle kick in the conference season getting a massive round of applause. If it was in the Prem it would have been shown all the time.
Not quite the same but when Edgar David's did a Nicky Tanner "Whoosh" into the stands everyone hooted derision. He just pointed over his shoulder to one of his injured players. The thing was the play was in one corner of the pitch for ages and the injured player was on the halfway line on the opposite side of the pitch. The awareness and peripheral vision he had (even with his special glasses) was truly world class. From memory Barnet could have had a breakaway at goal but the player was in a bad way.
I only saw Paulo Di Canio catch the ball with the goal at his mercy when an opponent was injured on tv, but pretty sure I still clapped his sportsmanship. Di Canio and sportsmanship - not words you would usually have in the same sentence.

He's a player I was hoping we would sign on loan to be honest after reading about him during the transfer window, a strong goalscoring record with Harrogate last season and their player of the year.

Rovers 1-1 Luton Town, Boxing Day 2007. A remarkable game in which Luton had 3 players sent off on 15, 42 and 76 minutes and even equalised when they only had 9 men. Goalkeeper Dean Brill pulled off a number of miraculous saves throughout the game in a superb individual performance and was rightly applauded from the pitch by the Rovers fans with Brill in turn applauding the fans back.

I watched the game on iFollow at my home in Malaysia.
Just before kick-off my wife (who has no interest in football) walked into the room. She looked at the TV screen for a couple of minutes and as as the players lined up for kick-off she pointed to Jack Diamond and said "Is that the star player?" I pointed out to her that that wasn't one of our players and she said she knew that but but just by the way he was moving around he looked to be a very good player (I didn't even know who he was until I looked it up). I made the usual "you know nothing about football" comment with the superiority of having watched the Gas for more than 60 years.
She didn't watch the match but I had to admit later that Jack Diamond was the star player and I know nothing!

Shawn Goater got a round of applause at the Memorial Stadium when he played for Manchester City.
Took absolute dogs abuse for the entire game until he was substituted.

Tranmere Rovers coming onto the pitch at Twerton, Keith Valle said well a team that beats the Teds 5 - 1 deserves a good welcome. They were cheered on th pitch, much to their confusion. Mark Hughes, ex Rovers, was their Captn.

Very easy to look good against poor opposition like us who stand off and don't tackle

Thought Diamond was excellent, albeit against poor defending. Not ashamed to say I stood and applauded him off the pitch (as well as the gas )
They most certainly had their revenge for the play off semi final at Sincil Bank.

Would be interesting to know if they see it that way. Play off Semi final second leg hammering (record win), which I’m fairly sure was their 5th season in a row of Play Off failure, Vs smashing us in only the 9th league game of the season. Perhaps their young un’s who don’t remember the 2007 season will say so, but their older heads who were at the game it’s not even in the same realm. Surely?

However well the opposition players perform id never ever clap any of them. They are the opposition and this guy has just scored the easiest hat-trick anyone is ever likely to get, to help humiliate us at home.
might as well buy him a drink after the game

I applaud Nigel Clough to the bench when he's at the Mem.
A decent bloke, but he is also the son of one of my heroes.

Couple of standout memories of this are the Brazilian 'Ronaldo' getting a standing ovation from the whole of Old Trafford after scoring a Hatrick there for Real and believe it or not a Man UTD player scoring a screamer in front of the Liverpool Kop and the Kop applauding as if one of their own, mind you it was one 'Bobby Charlton', how times have changed!

Ronaldinho at the Bernabeau after a flawless hat trick around 2006 or so, the third If I remember rightly he dribbled from his own half, step overs galore & left 2/3 Madrid galatico’s on their arses!
