Was he in our system of Government? I never knew.... I was responding to the notion that many others thought the same. However, as US ambassador to the UK he would have been influential with the US government and President. He wanted to succeed Roosevelt in 1940 and was an advocate of appeasement. Imagine what would have happened then, a more likely scenario than Edward VIII appointing Oswald Moseley. Yes Indeed.

Perhaps she thought his exile was indicative of her support ,who knows as for Megan we have one side of the argument Is there an argument? I know nothing about her, other than the relentless propaganda campaign against her. Was it because she dared to say something? I don't know how much is truth or typical media rubbish and tbh I'm not sure I really care enough when I look at everything else that's going on.

That Edward V111 was a Nazi sympathesier is a fact,my suspicion is that there were many families in Britain that had members who were sympathetic towards the Nazi's there were certainly were in government and of course Moseley's movement would not have got going without support at ground level. Absolutely They lurk still today. Just look at the statements made to gain power. Nationalism is a hair's width from National Socialism...pop over to the other forum and read the denunciation of foreigners. Agree, not sure I want to look over there as it would wind me up and I have high BP already 😊 What's an inescable fact is that despite millennia of human history there are still plenty of ars....s in the world!!

There was a time i would think when the Nazi party was viewed as a force for good in a country which was on its knees That you could actually believe that and make such a statement tells us all we could ever want to know about you. Come on oldie, you’re better than that. Pretty sure RH isn’t saying what you implied he has said. Saying that ignores much of our knowledge of what was happening in Europe and the world in the 1920s and 1930s. The fact that many other countries had factions that copied what the nazis in Germany did shows that some could see ‘attractive’ elements of their actions that had benefits to the country. How they invested in the country’s infrastructure was even copied by the Americans later on. They were eventually shown to be a stain in history. Thank goodness the vast majority of people in this country and most others saw through them and successfully resisted them. If we viewed the actions of those times through the prism of 2022 I’m not sure many people would come out as good as we thought them to be.

It does not apply if the person(s) being discussed were actually nazi sympathisers. I am talking about the establishment in general rather than the Queen specifically. I have stated before, Phillip was regularly racist and was reported as such in the press back when it was all a jolly lark. Meghan Markle has reported racism. The Queen has done little to reform or rebuild trust in the monarchy. A person should not be judged on a single photo from a bygone age, but instead on what they have done since. Or in the case of the Monarchy, what they have not done since. Interesting. Every country has their ‘establishment’, the USA, China, Russia etc. Getting rid of the Monarchy wouldn’t get rid of an ‘establishment’, just change the personnel. So I’m not sure that in the context of this thread it matters. The establishment is just that and those who are part of it like it and those that are not part of it criticise it and blame it. I’m presuming you’re on a wind up regarding the rest. If I’m wrong I apologise. But... ‘Megan Markle has reported racism.’ Just because she has said something doesn’t make it true. There is a different side. I suspect the present Monarchy are no more racist or no less racist than any other normal family in this country. What she has said plays out in America to certain groups but remains unproven and her opinion only. ‘The Queen has done little to reform or rebuild trust in the monarchy.’ .... I’m no monarchist but where have you been for the last few years? Of course she has. As has the outpouring of national mourning shown. ‘A person should not be judged on a single photo from a bygone age, but instead on what they have done since. Or in the case of the Monarchy, what they have not done since.’ ..... I can understand someone thinking that. But, it is just a point of view, others will have a different one. You are right about not judging anyone or anything on just one photograph but I think the monarchy has changed greatly in her reign and probably for the better. Though in some areas more needs doing.

Thank you, Wareham, the reply to my post pretty much reinforces the point i was trying to make, that,' folk will interpret and edit what they see to suit their particular agenda' , i just can't be fussed to get into an argument about it.

In response to Wareham. I didn't imply anything. I copied and pasted exactly what he said. Which I found incredulous.

Wasn’t he queuing in honour of his grandfather who was a great admirer of the queen ? I don’t think we all have to be that cynical and personally I think good on you Becks . I’m pretty sure his ‘brand’ will be fine either way if he queued or not .

Unlike Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby who apparently waved their ‘journalist’ cards to queue jump.
