It seems like I am in the minority based on constant moans around the Thatchers End but I love seeing us play it short and try different corner/free kick routines.
Two of our 6 goals this season have come from these, our last corner goal last season at Port Vale was a short corner and more often than not when we change that angle or get a couple of extra players involved we look more dangerous than just lumping the ball into the box.
So despite the moans of "get it into the box" (one guy who stands behind me says this almost as much as "just run with it" and "play it down the middle") I'd like to see us mix it up a lot more.
Keep it up gas and stick with the short set play routines!!!

Agree entirely, we aren’t the biggest side so what use lumping It into the mixer the exact same time, repeatedly, with their 6”4 plus centre backs, with only Connelly? With any real presence about him.
Mixing it up keeps them guessing, causes havoc in the area once the ball is now ‘active’ and can be a nightmare to defend when organisation goes out the window. It won’t come off every time but we seem to have 4 or 5 variations, Oxford did not know what was coming next.
Oh and we went & scored from one of these routines, wonder what the numb-nuts stood next to you thought of that😄

Agree, nice to mix it up , remember when Lines used to take them, hand up , same corner time after time with very little end product.

Those 3 man corner routines initially baffled me, but we have scored a few and seem to cause opposition defenders problems with them. No better feeling than 3 points. Loving life! UTG

Interesting o p.
Instinctively, I disagree.
But, what am warming to (as am dinosaur) is a more indirect approach to attack.
I guess it's all about angles? Maybe move the ball in a position to whisk it in so it favours oncoming forwards?
I guess I'm just hanging on to one of those " in the net" Tote End faithful! But diversity in set pieces is the key, keep em guessing....

I agree that it's refreshing to see something different. Clearly a fair amount of time has been spent on these routines on the training ground.
We did it for the majority of corners last week at Burton. Not so many yesterday but teams will notice what we do so wont allow us to play it short at every opportunity.
It is however, more frustrating when it doesn't come off. The corner taken short then the cross blocked for example will annoy the traditional 'get it in the box' fans but two set piece goals in four matches coming from a short training ground move is pretty good. I am going to have a guess that we would very likely have had no set piece goals yet if we just lumped it into the box every time.

Marquis mentioned it in his interview. We don’t have the tallest of sides (especially since CT returned to Stoke) so we have to move the defence about in order to increase our chances of scoring.

The good thing about JB is that having played in the Prem and in Europe, he's seen most set pieces and can pass that knowledge on. I imagine it's one of the things they train most.
