Didn't think they were all on the civil list? The Civil List was replaced a while ago, they will get an amount for the cost of any official duties but otherwise it's a stipend from the Queen.

The Royals generate more to the UK economy than the Β£1.60 odd a year that it costs the UK tax payer each year. Who do you think funds, as an example, the upkeep of presidential palaces in France, even down to the flowers put into vases....yep the french tax payer.

I don't mind them. Think they all play their part as far as I can see.
A Β£2.3 billion 4 day party? Nothing compared to a Β£37 billion Track & Trace system.

Sorry mate bit of a misunderstanding, what I wanted was evidence that the royals generate more to the uk economy than it costs the UK tax payer . Have you any evidence for that or is it just your guess ?

Talking of the Royals (not that we really were, but it doesn't merit a new thread), it was announced that Prince Randy Andy will miss the Thanksgiving service at St Paul's due to testing positive for Covid. How convenient for the family. Phew! Also noticed they are now taking about a new term: 'working Royals', who appear to be the only ones allowed on the balcony at Buckingham Palace today. The non-'working' ones presumably will be sitting at home twiddling their thumbs. How does Prince Andrew, as a non-working Royal, support himself these days? Does he earn actual money (and if so, how?), or does he get handed a brown envelope every few months? Just interested as a taxpayer. If he is getting funded it'll be through the private wealth as derived via the Duchy of Lancaster and not through the Sovereign Grant. He also has his navy pension. π€ Thanks Stuart. So it's the brown envelope then. Nice for him.

We hear this stuff about the Royals generating tourism money and business deals all the time.
It's utter nonsense, in my opinion, peddled by sycophants, what is left of the Establishment, and sentimental old fools.
If we had an elected president as a figurehead (not a replacement for the PM), like so many other countries, he/she would take the place of the Royals in negotiating deals, and probably be taken a lot more seriously, with a lot less fawning and bowing.
As to the tourism thing, would we actually suffer in any way if the Royals were retired to a large estate in Scotland or Norfolk? I don't want to strip them of their wealth and put them in a three bed semi in Yate. I just want to downgrade them and take away their titles. 'Royal Highness'? 'Your Majesty'? Really? In 2022??
Has anyone ever decided not to visit Versailles because Louis XIV's descendants no longer live there?
Has anyone visiting the Taj Mahal ever thought it's not really worth it because the Mughal Emperor is not in residence?
Has a trip to Egypt ever been cancelled because the Valley of the Kings misleadingly no longer has any actual Pharaohs eating grapes on a gold sofa and entertaining their concubines?

Likewise if you don't want to preserve all that is British and traditional why don't you pack your bags and move to your desired republic.
