Why is this in general chat? As you said, it’s beyond football.

Why is this in general chat? A Royalist mod moved it to the dark depths of General Chat in case some flag waving Brexiteers got offended (probably)

Talking of the Royals (not that we really were, but it doesn't merit a new thread), it was announced that Prince Randy Andy will miss the Thanksgiving service at St Paul's due to testing positive for Covid.
How convenient for the family. Phew!
Also noticed they are now taking about a new term: 'working Royals', who appear to be the only ones allowed on the balcony at Buckingham Palace today. The non-'working' ones presumably will be sitting at home twiddling their thumbs.
How does Prince Andrew, as a non-working Royal, support himself these days? Does he earn actual money (and if so, how?), or does he get handed a brown envelope every few months? Just interested as a taxpayer.

I'm all for a Republic with a President. Like Russia, China, the USA even.

Does anyone else think they look similar? Anyway.. Fair to say Joey isn't a royalist? He somewhat misses the point forget the anachronistic national anthem the Queen does not reign over us,that was decided in the Civil War,it is a constitutional monarchy which is subservient to Parliament and by definition the people. Now if he's trying to articulate about inherited wealth that's a different discussion, perhaps it would be interesting to know where he draws the line ie: none of his children are permitted to inherit from him?

Does anyone else think they look similar? Anyway.. Fair to say Joey isn't a royalist? I certainly agree with him on this and he makes some good points. My father, although always respectful of royalty and laws, turned down a C.B.E and i was not too chuffed as i would have gone with him, as a carer. He said that he would not betray his fellow Polish veterans , after they were not allowed to March in the V.E day parade. They don’t make them like him anymore 😞

Personally i don't think we need anymore than a PM and he is then head of state. Having a royal family hasn’t turned out too well for Lizzie and i have to say that, give the stuff with Diana, Andrew and Meghan has mad even me feel a bit sorry and embarrassed for her. It must be every families worst nightmare to have the situation that she has had to deal with, with all of that

But the queen has no powers in that way in any case. She can put her views forward to any PM but they are not obliged to act upon them. Most modern PM’s have a team of advisors themselves, one can only hope they have the interests of the many and not the few
