The thing is, a central defender with pace may be very important to us in winning games. I love watching Tony Craig and think he has been a fantastic signing for us, but at 34 pace isn't his strength and without Lockyer's speed and ability to read a game alongside him, I do fear that he and Davies may get done for pace at times this season. An injection of pace for certain games or to enable us to play 3 centre halves could be invaluable and perhaps explain why we're so keen to get this deal done. An astute observation sir and like you I would love to see Scales come on board for the reasons above.

I sense the UCD manager has been stirring the pot all through this ... An Irish Car Boot salesman who thought he was better at dealing with the professionals than has been shown.
GC wants him at the right price and terms and I have every confidence that when GC is happy the deal will get done. If not we move on.

We have signed quite a few CB's over the last 3-4 seasons, who have come and gone with various degrees of success (starting at none). It is amazing how many pages on this and I would like it over with, either sign up or go elsewhere, he clearly is moving somewhere.

I think our manager pushed a "minor point upstairs" and for most of July no one appears to been upstairs. The UCD manager is clearly frustrated at our upstairs vacuum and resulting "radio silence". If Liam signs it will be very interesting to see his progress, but the fact that Pep's Man City were interested in developing him suggests he could be one hell of a player for us who is likely to be in our first team pretty quickly (if not immediately).

We have 6 strikers so I guess at least one will be loaned out JCH? I think it should be TN but more likely to be GR who has goals in him and would therefore interest other clubs

Rollin set to go back out on loan. A sign that Scales deal has been sorted? Can you name your source? Is it in the public domain? Not challenging, just interested.

Rollin set to go back out on loan. A sign that Scales deal has been sorted? Can you name your source? Is it in the public domain? Not challenging, just interested. Seems to have come from GC himself, quoted in BP article: Bristol Rovers' 21-year-old centre back Rollin Menayese is set to be sent out on loan again this summer. Since signing his first professional deal with the Gas in July 2017, Welshman Menayese has gone out on loan to Swindon Town and Aldershot Town, playing substantial games at both clubs. However he has played just five first team games for the Pirates after making his debut in the 6-0 victory over Northampton Town in October 2017. Manager Graham Coughlan insists there is a long-term future for Menayese at the Memorial Stadium but says his immediate development will best be served by a loan move. Coughlan said: "There are a couple that will go out on loan. I have spoken to one or two already. I don’t want to stockpile players, I want them to get out and further their football education, get some game time under their belts. "I have spoken to Rollin Menayese for one and he is fully appreciative of the fact he may have to go and get some game time but I have spoken to one or two others and I think it will be great for them. "The last thing I want to do is to leave players hanging around, sitting on benches or in the stands because it is their careers. "If they want to further their careers I can advise them, that’s brilliant. If they don’t they don’t. "Rollin is a good lad, he is a special talent, He has got everything; the physique, the power, the pace. He just needs game time. He just needs to go out and get that rustiness out his system and get that concentration level increased. He will be a player for us in the future I would have thought."

It doesn’t look like this is happening now, Coughlan wants to move on.
"I spoke to the CEO at our place, it's been dragging on too long, there's too many murky waters and grey areas.
"I spoke to them yesterday and I've mentioned that I'd like to put it to bed and move on.
"It was something that should never have come out, it came out in the Irish papers, people speaking about business that they shouldn't be speaking about.
"My way of doing business is keep your head down, get the business done and then speak about it, I don't speak about it before.
"So that was another disappointing scenario where it's come out and we were getting backed into dark alleys where the Irish media or whoever across there were using other clubs against us.

Will be interesting to see if another centre half comes in. GC clearly identified Scales' attributes as something we could benefit from (and if he's quick, I think he's right!), so hopefully he will have another iron in the fire if this isn't happening.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see us sign him still, could be the clubs way of trying to sort them out?

Probably best to let him sign for someone else and then if we still like the look of the player we can revisit it and maybe his new club will conduct the transfer first before announcing it!

Still need another centre back in my opinion. One with pace. I suspect some are about to realise just how good Tom Lockyer was for us...
