Another defeat but a far, far better performance than anything we've seen for months.
We may have dropped a couple of positions but we haven't lost any ground, still 4 points away from safety.
If we can perform like we did today then hopefully we'll soon start picking up points.
Our missed chances are still a major worry though.

We just need a CH who doesn't fall over at a vital moment!! Not talking about the very wonderful Mr Craig are you Topper? To be fair that was the only mistake him & Locks made today, typical it was punished with a gaol, whereas we hit the bar.

Because, as GT highlighted, our players have the worst shot accuracy in the league. Its' no wonder we don't score goals when our attackers only get 30% or so of their shots on target. Payne hitting the crossbar had f'all to do with shot accuracy, he did everything right but as ever this season we've had no luck today. I know what you're saying - but it's still a shot off target. The FA don't give pity points for hitting the bar, if they did we'd be top of the league no doubt, but it doesn't work like that. We lost, got to build on the positive performance and do better next week.

If we count hitting the woodwork as a goal......... we would have lost 5-2 today - but if you add them up over the season, we would be mid table & DC would still be at the helm, fine margins indeed

Payne hitting the bar is equivalent to a better quality striker hitting the net. We desperately need an actual goalscorer, not a bar or post hitter.

Luck I guess is a red card at a bad time, as that comes down to personal interpretation and on another day might not have happened, conversely if Payne's shot had hit the bar last Wednesday night, it's still not a goal.

I thought it was 100% better today...……..until Nichols came on. He constantly failed to hold n to it or beat a man. He has to go.

It's simple, hitting the woodwork is a shot not on target. Clearly if it was on target it would be a goal unless the goalie saves it. Change the word luck to "couldn't hit a barn door from 10 yards".

Maybe that wont be such a bad thing. Sinclair has had a lot if injuries over the past 18 months. And at 31 he's not going to get any better

Let’s be honest, the only time it’s luck is when it bounces into the goal from the post.
Thought Sunderland were clearly the better team but we came out of that with our head held high.
Nichols coming on made us much worse though. We had gone from pushing for a point to holding on desperately to 2-1.
Encouraging signs overall though
