Oh absolutely. But where we are now can you see that happening before City can finish us off themselves? I ask that genuinely because all I want at the moment is some hope. Give me hope because I have absolutely none. I just see years and years of struggle without end if the Al Qadi's remain. Finish us off? If we end up being finished off, it'll be our own doing. What are you actually hoping for can I ask? The hope that we won't always be tinpot.

So I will mention it. City vs Man U. I watched it. And I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It was a cracker. All great goals and City absolutely deserved it. Joe Bryan is an absolutely fantastic full back and his goal was world class. Congrats to them. Have to say LJ has got them playing and they have great momentum carrying them forward. But the stadium is one of the key components in driving them forward. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing but it offers everything needed to push that club forward, and full up like it was tonight with a big team, that will only draw more Bristolians to them. You cannot underestimate what a new stadium would absolutely do for us and we need one within 3 years minimum or I don’t think we will ever come out of the shadow of City. We will become the Notts County of Bristol, always looking over the other side of town at their ground and accomplishments. I really hope our owners were watching at the gate tonight to see what we need, why we need it so badly and why we need it quickly. We will miss out a whole generation of football fans. They talk about evolution, but sometimes you also need to look at and focus on the present. Presently, City have a real shout of the prem and if they achieve that, I don’t think we will ever have the same share of the spoils again. Presently we have a ramshackle of a ground with no prospects of even building one and stagnating in L1. A real reality check. Bang on. If only we have owners that gave a f**k about any of that we might have a chance.

Agreed we need to concentrate on us, but we have to be aware of our local competition as well in my opinion. Like it or not, their fortunes and ours are linked to an extent, as there will only ever be a finite number of football fans in the West country, and the way it's going, a larger and larger percentage will be reds. We have to be aware of that in order to battle our corner and rise to the challenge of sticking with them as best we can. Won't be possible unless the owners come up trumps, which the way they've carried on recently, looks unlikely. Oxford and Plymouth are our local competition right now, not them. They've spunked millions in recent years and are light years ahead of us in terms of resources. We don’t lose potential supporters to Oxford or Plymouth and we never will. We do and will lose potential support to Bristol City though unless we up our game. That is the relevance of this thread to our football club.

With respect, I completely disagree with your comment about Oxford and Plymouth. The majority of our supporters and City's supporters are, surprise surprise, from the Bristol area. Not Oxford or Plymouth. And while that remains the case, if City's success and resources far outstrip ours, football fans from the Bristol area will be more inclined to watch City instead of us, which will reduce our ability to become a competitive force in future years. I do agree however that they're light years ahead, but that's my point. We are a club with great potential right now, but I don't want that potential to weaken, which in my opinion it will when City move further and further ahead of us. My opinion of course. Exactly. Agree with every word apart from the first two. Pompous posters deserve zero respect.

When I was a kid City were in the top division for 4 seasons, and we were sh1t. When they were playing Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, we were literally bottom of the second division for that entire period, narrowly avoiding relegation each year. For me and many others there was no better place to be than Eastville watching our team. Things change quickly in Football. Within 3 years they were bottom of the fourth division and 25,000 city fans simply disappeared.

From the replies I would guess that enough people felt that it was a relevant place to comment at the time, and no doubt they mods will tidy the place up in the morning, when the tantrums have finished. "Pointless Thread" .. "Pointless Thread" ... "Pointless Thread" .... you're beginning to sound like Sean O'Driscoll.

Does anyone really care what the teds do, I don't I can't even get jealous over how they are doing now We just need to concentrate and get our own house in order That was the point to my thread. City have their house in order and they are reaping the rewards. As did Brighton, Swansea et al before them. Tonight should have put the fire in the belly of our owners to say, fair play to them, but we need a bit of that as well, and get on the phone first thing tomorrow morning and get things in motion. We can wish. or they should seriously thinknabout selling up.

Congratulations to those red heathens.. I didn't watch the game as I had a much more important issue to deal with, I was sorting out my sock drawer. We can't even use the excuse that it was Uniteds reserves because that team should of mowed City down on the night and didn't. I genuinely didn't see any of the game but they do have genuine momentum and they might not need the play off route to the Premiership at this rate. Question is does Johnson stick or twist in the transfer window if u bear in mind his dad did nothing in the January the year they lost to Hull in that magnificent 2008 play off final. Let's hope it ends up in a similar fashion but for now I say well done City it was your time..

If we get our act together and progress as a club off the field we'll have a sound future. If we don't, we won't. That's all irrespective of anything they achieve or not. Greater Bristol is more than big enough to accomodate two successful clubs. Agreed, but I hope the success of our neighbours in Greater Bristol can provide a greater impetus on our owners to get our house in order, so that we can achieve something similar. It would be great to see in the not too distant future, a Bristol derby in the Championship, where we stuff them! Wael should see if the Jordanian Prince that ran for Fifa presidency wants to get involved, he has loads of money, could be the Man City of Bristol.

Ok here we go.......
I sat down last night to watch our friends south of the river get smashed by a far superior and well funded Manure United.
When i found out they had put out a strong team worth £400m my hopes where raised....
BUT Well done Bristol City, you provided me a with a fantastic spectacle of a football match which you deserved to win (hurts to say that but you cannot deny it)
The fact the Snake provided a world class pass for the winning goal hurt even more....
I wish you all the best for the next round and i hope you smash the other plastic team from Manchester
NOW PRINT THAT ON OTIB
BUT I BET YOU DON'T ! BECAUSE YOU ONLY PUT SH*T ABOUT US ON THAT SH*T FORUM

I’ve got to say this thread has restored a little faith in the forum for me.
We all know last night was another reminder of the ever widening gap between us, but the fact that it can be discussed on here without it just turning into abuse or people slagging off the very mention of our city rivals shows a nice bit of class.
Good effort.
As for our situation, who knows what will happen? Sadly those who have supported for more than a little while will no doubt go on thinking history is doomed to repeat itself where Rovers are concerned. I hope not though.

Reading some of the posts over social media saying well done from our fans made me feel a little sick but it actually shows how classy our supporters are.
You do have to give it to them though. They didn't sit back and defend for 90 minutes, they had a proper go at Utd. There is no way Guardiola's Man City will give them as much of the ball though and I do think that will be a totally different game.

It might not be directly related but what they are doing does indirectly affect us, whether we like it or not. I'm not saying there should be threads on them left, right and centre but they are relevant. Maybe there should be a thread with just City stuff in on this section? That way it is obvious what it is about, if you don't like it then don't open it.

what do we people expect to happen. We dont have the resources of City and never will unless someone like him takes over. Fair play to City though What can we expect to happen? We have been promised an improvement to the toilets and a general lick of paint to brighten things up next season - almost enough to convince me to renew my season ticket. "Someone like him to take us over" Peter Hargreaves would be a good bet - worth twice as much as SL. (Tongue very much in cheek) Agree with you "fair play to BCFC" - does this sort of progression on the other side make our owners uncomfortable - surely it is now dawning on them just what they are up against in this great City of ours. Clearly they are good at what they know and do best - they have tried to diversify - have come up short, are now floundering and are totally out of their depth.

The frightening thing is you could have drawn parallels between us and Man City, they used to play in a run down ground, attendances not to different either, we played them in the league...they were gifted a ground and have had new owners come in and have backed them from the start and now easily best team in the country on the pitch. We have great Support, 100+ years as a club of the 5th biggest city in the country, we have not been gifted a ground and we seem to have owners who do not want to spend any serious money. Not saying we could be in the champions league or even the Prem but we could comfortably compete at the next level if our owners would sort themselves out.
