it was clearly 3 at the back today not 5, bodin and brown were very high up the pitch Ok three then but it didn't work very well did it? It was only three on the basis that Bodin will always play well up the pitch and Brown was constantly being told to get higher up the pitch....which is one of the many reasons why the original plan/formation was bo*&o@£s......

Hartley had a nightmare because he didn't know when to go across and be a left back or stay central , same with Clarke on the right I thought. They're both good enough for this level but seemed completely flummoxed by our formation and got pulled apart by a pretty poor side that we made look good by our lack of organisation and confidence in what DC wanted us to do. We really need to go back to basics for Tuesday or I can see us getting pulled all over the place and we might need more than two goals to get anything.

Rochdale played 3 big men upfront so are 3 defenders were always 1 on1 with their opponents, what I can't understand is why we could all see that why couldn't DC? It's a worry this season, is DC out of his depth at this level or just being stubborn? Why did he never go to 4-4-2. even when Rochdale were down to 10 men and we needed to stretch their defence. Why are Leads, Montano and Gaffney so out of favour/form?

Thought the ref and linesmen were the worst we've seen since the Conference...they certainly didn't help us building any kind of momentum. The reason I was annoyed about their second goal wasn't because it could have been offside, it was because of the massive shove in the back of one of our players in front of the West Stand in the build-up. Ref and the linesman on our side (East terrace) both should have seen it and given it.... Taylor, istm. Yeah, Taylor. He went down far too easily, not a free kick. The ref got that right in my opinion.

It's easy to pick on the ref but it was good of the 3 Rochdale fans to step in and officiate the game at the last minute.
Anyone know what happened to the impartial ref we were supposed to have had?

MS looked demented in the post-match interview. If you'd watched the interview with the sound off it looked like we'd lost 5-0. Words coming out his mouth were surprisingly positive given his body language and facials. Something funny going on - Nick Day PA might be the least of it! Dunno if this has been mentioned elsewhere but this was on Facebook from another club official (you can probably guess who), in context it could have been in jest but it does seem like something might be going on... I can't guess. BSS?

Pirateman's meat pies are back on this week I hear. Looks like he's having even more work done on his patio AGAIN n'all.

From the match I was watching: Thank heavens for Matty Taylor Did we have the right formation & players for Rochdale ? Did we scout them beforehand ? Boateng looked good on the ball, can pass well but faded too often. Anyway, can he jump or run ? Didn't look like it really. The Beard. Very good game. Lines. very good defensive midfield. Cleared a lot of danger around our pen area. Clarke. not a bad game. A couple of good attacking headers late on. Roos. Jury's out. JE fairly quiet but quite good. Lovely cross back into the box for our second. Harrison. Absolutely terrible. Time to say goodbye.
Clearly we are playing at a different level now. If Rochdale are at the bottom end then we are going to have a very challenging season ahead of us. Bolton & Scunny gave us a good insight into what we can expect too. Rochdale attacked us for all 90 mins. They didn't dwell on the ball, they passed it with attack in mind. Too frequently we shuffled around and gave hospital passes - got to stop that and get the ball upfield.
All-in-all, we've got a good squad but it will take time for DC to get the formation etc right, especially as there's more competition for places. I think we've started quite well considering, and the 3 points we get on Tuesday will be what we deserve.

I could be that DC talked himself into bring too concerned about Rochdale. His pre match interview mentions how well they have played and how unlucky they have beennot to win ,how good their manager is etc etc. Sounds like all his project thoughts were about countering rRochdale's threats...which didn't actually work as they scored twice. It is important to be aware of a teams dangers and have plans to counter them ,but it's more important to develop your own method of scoring goals in a game. That said scoring two goals at home should really be enough to win a game. If DC has genuine defensive worries he should play either 5-4-1 With all the defenders being defenders and not makeshift wingers. The four man midfield can then be a standard two attack minded wide men , a tough tackling central midfielder and a creative midfielder. The other option being 4-5-1 Standard back four Midfield of two attack minded wide men, tough tackler ,attacking creative , box to box pain in the arse player.
Both systems rely on the front man being able to function alone. Not sure if this suits MT .....it probably does suit Ellis Harrison though.
At the moment teams are not that concerned about BRFC s ability to score goals...much like the last two seasons...once MT hits the league's top scorer slot again the picture changes completely. It was when teams feared Taylor's constant ability to score that the spaces opened up for the other players to start scoring. Once other teams get the Taylor fear factor DC s formation and substitution changes create alsorts of problems for the opposition. When multiple players start scoring goals from various positions it then means the opposition has many more goal threats to worry about and they stretch themselves too thin holding rovers at bay before finally losing concentration or tiredness kicks in and the goals start to flow. Whether DC knows this or not I don't know. All he really needs to do at the start of a season is play a steady system the players can implement easy and create chances for Taylor. Create the Taylor fear factor as quickly as possible. That is how it has worked....and will work again...so long as MT gets the chances to score. It's almost as if the start of seasons are sacrificed to create the growing Taylor fear.
League one top scorer has five goals in seven games. Taylor has three from five......a goal against Walsall will see him pushing the top of the scorers list. The quicker he hits ten goals the better a season rovers will have.

Out of his depth or stubborn. Definitely one of those.

Out of his depth or stubborn. Definitely one of those. He gets more out of his depth the higher up the league we go. If we get promoted again we're in big trouble. Time to go. (He also stubbornly experiments and sticks doggedly to changing things too often)

I think I agree with el oviedista I hope you guys don't celebrate at all any wins that DC's team achieves. Cos he's out of his depth. Oh, and he's obstinate. You'll not celebrate cos he's inexperienced and out of his depth.
