I'd have rested our full first team. Anyone who thinks our best 11 can get within a few goals of Chelsea let alone beat them are in cloud cuckoo land. Best result tonight will be a large crowd and no injuries. UTG Just popped my head out of the clock to find out the score last night! What was it?.😋

Just to be a pedant there are no rules in football, they are laws. it has to be an act of violent conduct to get a red card. The referee had decided that a penalty and yellow card was adequate punishment for the offence. Jermaine Easter was probably booked for his reaction to the official more than the offence he commited, another law change with regards to dissent. All in all a great night out in the company of a great crowd, the players and staff of the club let no one down and I look forwards to Saturdays trip to swindle. Just to be pedantic, there are 7 offences that are punished with a red card:
SENDING-OFF OFFENCES
- A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off: denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area) - denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the opponents’ goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below) - serious foul play - spitting at an opponent or any other person - violent conduct - using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures - receiving a second caution in the same match - A player, substitute or substituted player who has been sent off must leave the vicinity of the field of play and the technical area.
DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY
Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a deliberate handball offence the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs.
Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned unless: - The offence is holding, pulling or pushing or - The offending player does not attempt to play the ball or there is no possibility for the player making the challenge to play the ball or - The offence is one which is punishable by a red card wherever it occurs on the field of play (e.g. serious foul play, violent conduct etc.) In all the above circumstances the player is sent off.
The following must be considered: - distance between the offence and the goal - general direction of the play - likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball - location and number of defenders

As I understand it, the penalty last night was for a push, so Pedro should have been sent off.
I was basing my comment on information I received from a friend who is an ex football league assist referee, who also works at the Glos F.A.
I am unable to open your link here in work so can't see the changes that took place this season. Its all conjecture now anyway, UTG

Its a straight copy & paste from the FA Laws of the Game website.
The change this season regarding DOGSO is this bit:
"Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned unless:
- The offence is holding, pulling or pushing or - The offending player does not attempt to play the ball or there is no possibility for the player making the challenge to play the ball or - The offence is one which is punishable by a red card wherever it occurs on the field of play (e.g. serious foul play, violent conduct etc.) In all the above circumstances the player is sent off."
Basically, if its a 'genuine attempt' to play the ball rather than the man, then its a booking. Everything else is still a red card.

Fair shout, obviously Mr Strouds interpretation of the challenge was different to many others. Cheers

You'd be amazed what sort of effect a game like that has on a squad, especially an inexperienced one like ours. To have held their own against a strong Chelsea side shows they have nothing to fear in the league. Swindon should sell out or get close, extra day's rest for the squad too compared to the last few games so I'm expecting a good performance.

Chelsea reserves apparently! Christ, the lad who scored twice is a 33m signing. Loftus Cheek has represented his country from u16 through to the 21s. The rest are established first teamers.

Most the Chelsea fans I saw seemed to have some weird sense of entitlement, a couple of them starting kicking off outside the court field pub in Earls Court when the police politely asked them to find another place to drink. But to be honest why would you want to drink in a pub full of very vocal set of the opposing teams supporters?!
All in all it was a cracking day out. Glad I made the effort to get up to London earlier and drink my own body weight in Cider!

Maybe that's harsh given he was being compared to Batshuayi et al.

The ball that Matty played to The Beard to put him through for the pen was very similar to Luton away last season....UTG

Just wanted to say fair play to you, at 2-0 down away at Chelsea a lot of clubs would have gone into 'damage limitation' mode, but it looks like you had a real go and not many teams will score 2 at The Bridge.
I had several mates who travelled up last night and they are all buzzing about the following and the game.

Just goes to show what a farcical position we have got into with wages and transfer fees in the Prem and Champions League elite. As DC said, there are good players in the lower leagues. They might not be as good as the top boys, but the good ones like Matty T are definitely better value for money. He must be paid about 2% of the salary of a Man City striker and be worth about about the same if snapped up now by a Championship club.

No sense of humour, no banter, just expecting to win and completely star struck (not by Matty to be clear). My mate pointed out it was like going to the cinema for them - felt that was a good point. I'd add it was like a bunch of black cab drivers going to the cinema.
