I agree about Gaffney, his general play isn't bad. He's good at holding the ball up and keeping possession. It is just the lack of goals like you say, and unfortunately strikers will get judged on goals. I think I'd still start him Wednesday. I'd normally agree and see past the lack of goals on his behalf but thought gaffney has struggled to do this well the last few games. Not sure he's as fit as we'd like at present. Darrell seemed to lash out at him at one point just before he came off. I'm a fan of his and think he can do well at league one but think a break would do him good, and open up a chance for a player like Luke James who looks as if he can make an impact if given time to bed in. Gaffney imo has a great career in front of him, we have to remember he hasn't as far as i am aware had a full season in pro football, now you may laugh but I have this theory with Gaffers that as he is Ginger and fair skinned this weather doesn't suit him best.I reckon when the weather starts to turn we will see him come good. On a difference note does anyone think Luke James has an uncanny resemblance in his appearance to Micky Barrett ?

Gaf was bloody great on those freezing nights in December and January. Scores when it's freezing he only scores when it's freezing...

Said the same about Gaffney towards the back end of last season. He can't keep missing absolute gifts. I think we are finding out why cambridge originally sent him out on loan. We need a targetman to compliment taylor. How a about a cheeky bid for paddy maddon? Paddy M is no target man!

Good result for you boys and girls today, and it looked a decent crowd too? Good to see over 10k Fair play, I'm sure the cider tasted good in the sun on Gloucester Road afterwards! What was this thing about Matt T not starting because he was tired? Seems a bit strange so early in the season. But he came on as sub and notched as usual. Good luck anyway and thanks for sending us to Scunny on a school night! Are you lost again ? No I'm not lost....pretty obvious really. Are you really so against engaging with a City fan who posts a reasonable, respectful and tame set of comments?!

He played 90 minutes on Saturday, 120 on Thursday and we made 5/6 changes so he wasn't the only one and that's all there is too it. Fair enough, thanks. Just thought it a bit strange that he asked to be left out so early in the season.

I do wonder if the Oxford summer transfer saga also had a bearing, although there's perhaps an even bigger game coming up on Wednesday where you sense DC will want to start with our best starting 11, plus Easter may well have been flying in training given his first half performance today.

Well deserved 3 points! Really refreshing to see us start so quickly and I felt that it shocked Oxford and that caused them to never really get going.
That was probably the best game I've seen Montano play and he caused their fullback all sorts of problems all game. Not sure Longs first booking was correct though.
James Clarke looked decent again today and he was one of the few that I thought might struggle with the step up. He had an even tougher task with Bodin in front of him being off his game and not tracking back enough, but dealt with everything that came at him!
Ollie Clarke is improving and had another good game and the partnership with Lines is looking promising. We won the midfield battle today and were quicker to every 50-50.
Easter was decent first half and Taylor looked classy when he came on. Harrison and Gaffney not at the races but still caused problems against what I thought was a poor Oxford defence.
As for Oxford, well so much for this attractive passing football. First half was all long ball to the front two and it wasn't until Taylor came off that they tried to move the ball in our third on the deck. Maybe he has a similar effect on their style as Harrold had for us?

Peeped on the Oxford forum. Not happy bunnies but generally agree we were the better side & deserved to win.

Gaffney not playing well at the minute. Should probably be resigned to the bench or dropped for a few. Good showing from O.Clarke who I don't normally rate. That said, one swallow doesn't make w summer. Harrison was extremely poor in my eyes today, too greedy and finishing is poor - should make more tactical passes. Stop whining about decisions and mistakes and track the bloody ball down when it's an easy win. Fantastic game from Easter. Should be given a start. Lines had a decent game but not sure about MOM. Montano showed what he's worth but needs to work on end product. Still think Bodin is a quality player but think his form towards end of season has gone to his head. Always one too many touches on the ball - needs to move it on earlier and remember he's playing higher quality players now. James Clarke has been a great surprise of late and is putting a stamp on his position in the side. Umm...he was!

That's a good point, the start of the season seems incredibly busy and even though we expect our players to run through brick walls for 90 mins every game, they are just human. It's quite brave for a player to say 'I'm tired gaffer' but also, even at the levels at which our clubs play, squad rotation is still relevant...

I'm not convinced at all about this "tired" thing.
I'm sure Oxford took it for granted that Taylor and A N Other would start, probably Harrison after the Cardiff display. By taking them both out, DC would have messed up their game plan. And it worked.

I think what he was trying to say was f**k OFF !!!!!!! To be fair though what was wrong with his post. Was respectful post from him. It's a rovers forum and he's a shithead , I come on here to discuss rovers related topics and to have a bit of banter with rovers supporters NOT Sh1!heads. It would be like me posting my views about eating meat on a forum for vegetarians! So to make it clear, Briz red can f**k off and go back to Otib

Just thought it a bit strange that he asked to be left out so early in the season. Did he ask to be left out? I've saw nothing about it except for City fans mentioning it on Twitter, and I'm sure OTIB hence why you're on here. Regardless, I'd rather a player was upfront and said he doesn't feel he could put in as good a performance from the off. It's been a long week footballing wise considering it's the start of the season. He came on, did his job, and we got 3 points, can't ask for more than that.

Haha briz red just stirring the pot methinks!
Absolutely not a chance in hell matteee is asking to be rested against Oxford after all that's happened this summer. He looked more fired up than I've seen him before and he loved scoring that winner!
Great mind games from DC and in my opinion sticking Taylor on the bench probably pumped him up even more. 5 changes show a stronger strength in depth than people have been giving us credit for and psychologically winning having made those changes is fantastic.

Can't remember when we had such a great squad and can make 5 changes replacing quality with quality, and to think he is looking to get 3-4 quality players in by the end of the month, looking good Gas, Rich start the bus!

Like, I don't see what you get out of it, the reply's you get are normally instantly abusive or at best frosty and you are not really among friends in the footballing sense, yet you remain persistent. I'm not sure what I would have or want to talk about if I joined One Turd In Bs3. Not unless you get off on the fact that you are alone here, interacting with the enemy seemingly unscathed ish, who knows. Maybe you sit there legs akimbo, c0ck in hand waiting for a bite to jerk off to with a finger in your bum. Or maybe your a decent football lover who would prefer to put aside the petty squabbles in favour of good debate. The latter however would suggest you are not a die hard. Either way though......I still don't like you.
