Well that was rubbish, written by a bloke who went shopping instead of the game and contained little more than the score which we all already knew.

Don't see a lot of point in a match report from someone not at the match??
I'll stick with @stevek

Blimey it's the most feedback we've ever had! Guessing his other reviews have been ok then...
We're a growing website aiming to cover sports in the Bath/Bristol area, if any other writers are keen to get on board then please get in touch via social media. Wayne's Rovers is a fan's view of what's going on with the world of all things Rovers, not a standard match report. This writing is well written and from a personal view of an exiled fan; with elements of comedy mixed in.
We'd be keen to get someone who goes to every game/most games to do a standard match report to get online Saturday Evening or early Sunday morning. There are also opportunities for feature articles looking at the history, player past and present and how the club is run. The site's main aim is go give original content that fans want to read.
Looking forward to the influx of offers now!

Excellent! Could start a whole new trend in reporting.
=========== Chelsea 2 Bradford 4
The Tykes of Bradford beat the Superstars of Chelsea today in a sensational FA Cup tie. I wasn't at the match myself, since my mate Gary had promised me a Nando's, but I set the old Sky+ and watched bits of it later. Loads of goals went in and on tv the pitch looked lovely. By all accounts Bradford deserved their win. My Nando's was lush, by the way.
Another match report next week. =============================

in all honesty if you are not going to make it to Dartford from where you live I don't hold out much hope for your roaming reports for the rest of the season. Surely one of the first dates marked on your calendar when the fixtures came out.
What makes you think people are going to queue up to write content for your website for free

Not to mention cracking regular blogs from buckrippers and mehewmagic, which are both written free of charge. As a gashead who can only get to the odd match I am very grateful for all of their hard work and skill, and just like the writer of this article, they take their fair share of unwarranted criticism in my opinion. Keep it up, all of you!

What makes you think people are going to queue up to write content for your website for free *goes off to bang head against wall* To be fair, everyone has to start somewhere and lots of people want to write / get published etc. practise also improves you. And it is enjoyable. look at me. Started in the gutter and I'm...um... Still there

Think there is a difference between a forum and someones own pet project website. Unlikely as it would seem, given the snappy name and exciting graphics, if mtannersports ever started to get thousands of hits where would all the advertising revenue go ....
Have to appreciate the match reports on here, but think they are posted partly to enjoy discussing the game on a forum. The evening post blogs would actually be better posted on here as you would not suffer death by advertising, but I think people get a kick out of writing for an established publication even if it is only a blog on the website of a paper that is a shadow of what it used to be.
Whether it is acceptable to spam a forum to drive traffic to a private website is of course questionable - that applies to mtannersports or the evening post.
Thinking about it all mtannersports needs is a graphic designer and web designer to sort out the layout, someone with some imagination to come up with a decent URL/domain name, a computer boffin to code it all, a promotions and advertising team and some established journalists who actually go to games. If all of these people could help out for free I am sure it will be a great website. As they say not going off to hold my breath ;-)

Hi everyone,
I didn't really want to have to write something like this, but it looks as though it's necessary.
I really enjoy writing, especially for Mark's website, but comments like this are the exact reason why I have always been dubious about putting things online. I appreciate that not everyone will like it (be it the content, style, etc) but if this is the case, then just don't read it!
I was under the impression that this was a platform for Rovers fans to come together, for healthy discussion and debate, but I guess I was wrong. I am so surprised at some of the things I read on here. I thought Rovers fans were far more supportive than this.
I don't really see the point in a comment such as yours. I'm not sure what impact you hoped it would have, but all it has done is ruin my day. So thanks for that.
I'm not going to look at this page again, but thank you to those who are always supportive.
Mark - thank you for your comment. I'm sorry you had to even take time to write on here like this.

Sorry about that, I guess you were expecting rave reviews, but lets be honest the idea that writing a report on a game you could not attend was a good move is a bit of a strange one. I suspect from your reaction you are not that old, and in all honesty all I can say is don't let a bit of criticism put you off, that's part of life.

To be fair I enjoyed his last report, but attempting to report on a match you didn't attend is not sensible. He would have been better writing a more general blog about the current situation.

You can't possibly write a report about a game you didn't attend and expect it to be decent. That's not a debatable thing, it's just common sense. Sorry you're so fragile.

I like the pictures and your anecdotes about your trip, the pubs and your description of the ground. That's fun, informative stuff. That's the kind of good report you can do if you're, you know, there.

With the benefit of hindsight, are you surprised that these comments were made, producing a match report from a match you didn't attend, posting it on the internet and then on this forum for us to comment on? Just consider yourself lucky you didn't post it on the Independent Forum.......

Buckrippers does it all the time! And when he does attend a match he divides us all by claiming the manager is to blame for everything from the half-time tea to the national debt. Keep going Wayne, but make it up if you don't go

Hi all,
It's great to see so much debate on the subject of reporting and different styles people like and dislike.
Glad I'm alive to read it ;-) and that I can write in the first person now!
I'll give you a little bit of background to the site if that helps put it into context and clears up any questions raised (to do with money etc). What started off as a personal blog site, hence the name, has now grown in readership and size. It started off just reporting on my home team, Bath City and the occasional Keynsham Town match report. Then a rambling table tennis article got picked up and then I was writing for a sports management company and attending a few events, that's when the readership increased.
Then I looked around at what coverage there was locally, Bath/Bristol, for sports and there is only really the two established papers. The Bath Chronicle and Bristol Evening post seem to get all of the player interviews and match reports, but are sometimes sloppy in their approach to other aspects, such as meet the manager nights or community days. Also the level of detail they go into with players isn't great. My biggest gripe with newspaper websites is the amount of adverts, one match report will often have up to 7-8 adverts on one page!
The only other place fans will go for new is on well established forums (like this one, top of google search!) or individual blog sites. However what I found is that on an individual blog site you can sometimes only be attracting a very small readership. Most decent writers are now writing for a more established site with 4 or more writers, attracting a better readership. That's why in the last few months I've been reaching out to different writers from the local clubs to try and establish regular quality content to be all in one place.
This way news about local clubs isn't restricted to the hardcore of fans but can hopefully be picked up by the casual sports fan via social media. I want to make the site something that people want to come to and share it's original content. That's why when I read Wayne's older reports on his personal blog site I was impressed with his fresh writing style, with elements of comedy, making it a perfect fan's view of Rovers for the site. Bristol Rovers was the next logical step in expanding the readership and so far so good. Even this seeming 'little blip' has got a number of people joining in a healthy debate about it.
Looking to the future and growing the site further and issues of money. At the end of May the site will be a year old and viewing patterns will be a little more established. If at this point features had the potential to be sponsored then great; as long as it was tasteful and didn't distract from the content. If the site ended up making any money from this and I could afford to pay writers, would I expect more? Of course! But that could be years away, if ever at all.
In terms of growth there is no end goal. I'm going to be satisfied to have x amount of readers or x amount of writers. I'll always be looking for a new way of reporting or gaining readers. It's not going to stop after a couple of years, it's hopefully going to be around a for while (once we sort out a decent catchy name!).
So what do writers get out of this? Someone mentioned age in a post, the majority of contributors have been young people. I aim to try and develop and guide the writers into a paid job opportunity. Going back a few years now when I was working for a Welsh Premier League club I helped develop a teenager with his reporting skills and now he is being paid at a football league club. It helps to have a portfolio of work behind you when you apply for jobs or courses and that'd what I look to build for these writers.
On more point about spamming and external links of this forum. To date I haven't been contacted by a moderator on this forum asking to stop posting up links and none have been taken down. This, to me, seems like the right place to post Rovers related material. I will in future try and engage a little more with you guys so it's not so -New - here it is - link - bye.
I believe there isn't enough written about your club for the amount of interest and passion you have for it and with a little bit of tweaking I think I can offer you some content worth reading. I'll also take this opportunity again to offer a chance for more writers to come forward, or website designers!
I'm sure there are things I've left out but please get back in touch, and sorry it's such a long post!
