The list of people saying/suggesting/hinting that Biden should step down is growing longer and longer...the first Democratic senator - Peter Welch from Vermont - has told him to step down, whilst Blumenthal from Connecticut, Tester from Montana and Brown from Ohio are reported as stating he should quit to other Democrats. Big money donors are drying up over the uncertainty. Celebrity supporters are dropping away or calling for change. Kamala Harris is now favourite on most betting markets to be the nominee - if Biden releases his delegates it would become an open convention and anyone could stand - however she would have the benefit of 'inheriting' the money and staff raised by the Biden/Harris campaign so far. Interesting times. Having watched him at those two most recent press conferences I can't see how he can run again. Saw last nights blunder on Sky news…… it was just awful. Surely that’s it’s for him now .

Surely that’s it’s for him now . Must just be a question of how and when. The Republican convention is Monday to Thursday next week and so better to let them waste their energy attacking him, then stand down between the RNC and the DNC convention in August with enough time to sort out (at most) a two way contest for their nominee. But it still leaves them open to the justifiable attack of whether he's fit to be President for the last five months of his first term...

The best outcome would be to stand down on health grounds which ultimately puts the VP in the hot seat whilst they sort themselves out. But time is running out

Always thought an assassination attempt was likely at one of his rallies one day or another. He’s so divisive it was always going to happen one day . Wonder if he’ll carry on being so pro gun after this close shave ?

Wonder if he’ll carry on being so pro gun after this close shave ? Unlikely. At least Biden has fully condemned the shooting, wonder how Trump would react if it were an attempt on the President? x.com/brianklaas/status/1812328254499647796?t=gujmXlY1SU6MSsDIZTxSaA&s=19

All the talk I hear is saying that Saturdays failed assassination attempt makes Trump much more likely to win the upcoming presidential election. What do you guys think ? 🤔 Personally I don’t think it changes anything apart from entrenching the maga mobs views that Trump was sent from heaven etc etc and they’ll be extra determined to go out to vote.

Doesn't look good for those of us this side of the Atlantic. "Explained: Who is Trump's running mate JD Vance? James David Vance was a bitter critic of Donald Trump in 2016 - now he is running on the same ticket. Publicly, he called Trump an "idiot" and "reprehensible," while privately comparing him to Adolf Hitler. "I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful), or that he's America's Hitler," he wrote privately to an associate on Facebook in 2016. But he has become one of Trump's most ardent defenders, and while some Democrats say it is opportunism, many of his advisers see his transformation as genuine. Mr Vance's political beliefs are a mix of isolationism and economic populism, at odds with the old guard of the Republican Party, where foreign policy hawks and free market evangelists hold sway. The 39-year-old Ohio senator vocally opposes US aid for Ukraine in its war with Russia - to the delight of Trump's allies. He agrees with Trump's contentions that free trade hollowed out middle America by crushing domestic manufacturing and that the nation's leaders were too quick to get involved in foreign wars. Mr Vance also downplayed the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Capitol by Trump's supporters. As an Ohio senator from modest origins, his pick may help boost the Trump campaign's race in battleground states like nearby Pennsylvania and Michigan. After serving in the Marine Corps, attending Yale Law School and working as a venture capitalist in San Francisco, Mr Vance rose to national prominence thanks to his 2016 book "Hillbilly Elegy." In that memoir, he explored the socioeconomic problems confronting his hometown and attempted to explain Mr Trump's popularity among impoverished white Americans." news.sky.com/story/trump-shooting-assassination-attempt-biden-latest-live-sky-news-blog-13177655?postid=7976948#liveblog-body

It might give a short term boost to his polling and his fundraising, but that was likely to happen anyway this week with the Republican convention taking place this week. Lots more twists and turns to come - it will be hard for him to keep bringing it up as we get closer to the election, at least without losing as many supporters as he gains.

Current state of the polling in the Electoral College (270 to win): Strong Democrat: 191
Soft Democrat: 35Toss up: 77 Soft Republican: 110
Strong Republican: 125Now a slightly different forecast, the consensus polling - effectively unless nearly every major pollster thinks the same, the state will be placed one step towards the 'toss-up' category. This is also collated using a lot of state rather than national polling. Strong Democrat: 148 (-43 on the above but this uses a slightly more uncertain measure)
Soft Democrat: 78 (+43 on above)Toss up: 61 (-16) Soft Republican: 126 (+16)
Strong Republican: 125 (+/- nil)
