If this is indeed goodbye, then thanks Sam. At your best for us you made us tick. Love how he using the Scouse Mafia, and they say players don't read the forums. On his day really good, easily could have player a part in match day squad. Obviously not an MT player. Perhaps there's more to it than just it being mentioned on the forums, given that the only players on the photo are scousers still left at the club?

Timing is right for all … Good Luck and Thank You Sam.
Sad it was announced like this and not by the Club. Probably all the suits too busy strutting around at the Award ceremony tonight.

Brilliant servant, think Blizzard, Grant, Channing, et all, always tried, even if it didn’t come off. Shame the club didn’t announce it yesterday as he’s been such a good servant in his three years.

Sam has been a great servant for this football . On his day he was the midfield general and like someone previously stated when he was injured or out of form never went missing . Its a shame a few others in this current team didn't have his desire to win a game of football . You will certainly get a warm reception off me if you return with another team thanks for all your efforts and good luck in the future.

Excellent in L2, reasonable in L1 - the right decision IMO. That said, thanks Sam and all the best for the future.

Finley has been one of our more consistent performers over the past 3 years. Played a big part in our promotion from L2 and has been decent in L1.
That said, he's 32 before next season starts and performances have dipped slightly this season. It probably is the right time to say goodbye, good luck and thanks for the memories.

He was a big part of that L2 promotion winning team and for that, I think the vast majority of Gasheads will be very grateful. However, he seemed to be a bit off the pace in L1, especially this season, and with Barton having now departed, it seemed inevitable that he would be off at the end of the season. It is a shame it wasn't announced prior the Posh game (as it seems it was decided prior to this with the photos/his child on the pitch etc) so he could get a bit more of a send off but I'd like to think he would get a good reception here if/when he returns as an opposition player. All the best for the future Sam and thank you.

My son got to know Sam shortly after he joined Rovers. He told Sam about the "Scouse Mafia" theories, and he thought it was hilarious. It seems to have gone unnoticed that Sam was the Community Trust Player of the Year, in recognition for going above and beyond in the work he does to aid the community.

fingers crossed all 3 are here, if JR proves fitness. Connolly miles away from being good enough, Rossiter is a good player but won’t stay fit. Evans a bit over hyped for me and if the rumours about his huge wage are true I’d hope the club moves him on.

Connolly I agree with and Rossiter to some extent but for me, Evans I think is worth his wages. He is our second top scorer, often from a deeper midfield position, and has also got 8 assists. Not to mention he is the only one in the squad who seems to be able to take a good direct free kick. I would be looking to build the team around him, not move him on, as I am not sure we could/would get any better and Evans would only move to a club currently higher than us.

So you are suggesting we pay off JC's contract and wave goodbye to the money we spent on him? He's looked decent since his return and definitely good enough to be back up CB or part of a 3 and a get chance to actualise his potential.

Each year we have out of contract players that leave, and likely know in advance they are off, yet the club wait until after the season ends to announce departures.
How people can say the club not announcing Sam’s departure with two games left to go as poor form is beyond me.
He’s been a good servant and I wish him all the best, but to make out that we (or he) has been robbed of a grand farewell is a bit much in my opinion

Fair enough, I personally don’t see it. Most of his set pieces are disappointing, if we use the thought that he’s as good as some think he is then surely if he’s not going to sign a new deal this summer we should be looking to sell him anyway? Unless we plan to let him walk away for free next summer.
