GGMI-esque boom? Maybe. 😉 "Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow paymaster general, has just claimed that this year's general election is "definitely coming in May". He tells Sky News the Conservatives are "planning for May". "My challenge today to Rishi Sunak is name that date." To note, for a May election to take place, Mr Sunak would need to call the election towards the end of this month or the start of April. The most likely date, if it will take place in May, is 2 May - the same day as the local elections. However, Mr Sunak previously said it is his "working assumption" that the election will take place in the second half of 2024." Oh god not that clown Jonathan Ashworth who when constantly asked how Labour would fund various things gives the usual response of non doms!!! He may be right about the election but why would Rishi call an election in May when they're so far behind in the polls. At least calling it later in the year would give them time to soften the blow! On another note anyone know if Angie has paid HMRC back on the tax she should have paid when she sold her council house! Eh up my loony right wing friend! Who would you vote for at the election, Tory or Reform ? My bet is Reform

Imagine looking on from afar and thinking, yeah think I’ll vote for more of this shitshow or maybe ratchet it up another step and vote for those reform idiots 😂

As someone who has never voted anything but Labour in a General Election, due to the lack of SNP option where I've lived when old enough to vote, the prospect of PM Starmer hardly makes me think we're going to be back to the good times.
Hey ho, has to better than the alternative, I suppose.

To my shame I went to Scotland for the first time last yr , Trossachs then up to Fort William with a few stops in between …loved it ! 🥰

Our lot are (were, only 3 of us left now) all Weegies, Yatton. Greatest city in the country.
Trossachs is a great part of the country, but if you want pure, unspoilt beauty, the far North and the Western Isles are unmatched.
Nearer to Glasgow though, Loch Lomond is always worth it, along with Glencoe and across to Stirling. 👍🏴

Beautiful part of the world. Enjoyed the Perth area too.

Sophy Ridge's thoughts, looks like 2% off NI tomorrow. "But how popular are tax cuts really? Well, when YouGov asked the public what the government should prioritise… 57% said funding public services, and only 27% tax cuts. So what's going on? In an election year, betting the house on tax cuts only makes sense when you consider that among a narrow group of voters – those who backed the Conservatives in 2019, those who are tempted by Reform – tax cuts are much more popular. What does this tell us? This is a government trying to shore up their core vote. A party trying to limit losses, rather than a party trying to win." news.sky.com/story/uk-politics-sunak-starmer-general-election-labour-tories-budget-politics-hub-12593360?postid=7334169#liveblog-body

Ouch! "Birmingham City Council has approved plans to hike council tax by 21% over the next two years. More than 50 councillors also voted in favour of £300m in cuts over the same period. The Unite union described the move as "devastating for Birmingham council's workers and the entire city". It comes after the local authority effectively declared bankruptcy last year after being hit with an estimated £760m bill to settle equal pay claims." news.sky.com/story/birmingham-city-council-approves-300m-cuts-and-21-rise-in-tax-over-two-years-13087973

Just a thought, Chancellors like to bring a 'rabbit out of the hat' on Budget day. With much already trailed in the press, most notably the 2p NI cut, what will it be?
Or has he spent the headroom and that is it?
If he does, maybe stamp duty, IHT, income tax or VAT.

I think any chancellor be it left or right should get rid of the unfair, unjust double taxation of Inheritance Tax.

I think any chancellor be it left or right should get rid of the unfair, unjust double taxation of Inheritance Tax. I'm not fussed either way, but how many does it really affect? Maybe if they don't include the main residence. Although that is likely to have to be sold for social care anyway.

I think any chancellor be it left or right should get rid of the unfair, unjust double taxation of Inheritance Tax. Isn’t it only something like 4% of the richest families pay inheritance tax ? ( most of them avoid paying it as well ) Keep it so there’s a fairer distribution of wealth. Who cares if Tarquin can’t inherit millions tax free from his lord & lady parents.

Come on Yatton it's nothing to do with Tarquin inheriting millions tax free from his lord and lady parents (bearing in mind that money has already been taxed). You have worked hard all your life and paid tax on your income and savings yet when you pass away your hard earned income, property and savings can't be passed on your children without being taxed a second time!! Seams really fair doesn't it??
