Gandy Urney (might not be his real name) on the other forum suggested running the Bristol 10K (at the end of May) to raise money for Oskar: gasheads.org/thread/2059/any-runners-onAnyone on this forum fancy having a go? It's only 10K. Might be a good way to get fit(ish), anyway. Great way to meet hot chicks, also.

Is there a minimum raised amount?
What's the entry fee?
Do they have spaces for non running club affiliated runners?

Yeah, they do non affiliated runners. There's no minimum amount to raise to enter (you don't have to raise anything). It's £29 to enter for non-affiliated (£19 for over sixties) or if you enter the Bristol half-marathon as well you can get a discount. www.runbristol.com/Events/bristol-10k

I used to do a 3 mile run four times a week in around 18 minutes but haven't for years . Would probably struggle to do a mile in under 8 mins now. Might do this though I miss my running.

Yeah, you could. I haven't run since June (and put on a load of weight) until today, so this was the kick I needed.

I won't do it because I can't, my knees couldn't take it....
but if you guys are all going to get sponsorship for the same cause why don't you all do it under one fundraising effort.... sure the club would help drum up some publicity in the programme etc, and you could get more involved....

That's pretty quick! Yeah I started off doing it in 23 -24 mins and timed myself every time , brought the time down just a few seconds each week , took years to get to 18 mins 2 secs which was my record. Then I had a death in the family didn't go for a while and never got back into it. Still play football though.

Yeah, I guess Gandy's idea is to use this as some sort of directed fundraising effort that might make some cash in addition to what was raised for Oskar earlier. I think a bunch of Gas doing the run together and raising money collectively would be a good way to focus that for Gasheads (as well as the friends and family angle).

I was clearing up the office last week and found some old timing sheets I'd made. I used to run round the downs, and started off doing it around 27 minutes, and got it down to a world record 23:35. It was all down hill after that though (as I got older) the last time I tried was 25 something.

Yeah I'm really competitive so running on my own was boring until I came up with the idea of going for the world record lol.

Apparently Sinclair can hop around the Downs in 5 mins on one lungful of air. Sprinting's my thing, short and sharp, don't have time for running. Usually on a Saturday night after a Vindaloo.

Certainly worth thinking about, would you expect any sponsors to pledge directly to his just giving page or is there another way?

I`m a very keen runner, so would be interested in this. May even be able to raise a few other team members as well.

Afternoon all. Finally decided to register here cos of this thread. So yeah, basically I'm doing the 10k, wanted to raise some Oskar money... then thought why not rope some other Gasheads in as well? Share the pain around Idea: set up collective Just Giving page. Harass friends, family, random internet bods into giving. All abilities welcome, we're never going to do it all together anyway but some mutual support in training etc will surely be in copious supply! If you're definitely in, message me your details (just name/email I guess) and I'll try and co-ordinate something Ta!
