I'm the same as some, not overly excited by this World Cup in Qatar in November / December, Gareth, or the Squad.
He seems to have gone back on his word of picking players playing regular football and in tip top condition now matter what team they play in.
Connor a good player but can even get into the Chelsea U23!!!, but still picked in front of JWP. Lets see how many free kicks we can convert and who will take them now.

There are some players that seem to play better for England than their club - and vice versa - always have been. Currently Maguire and Stirling I'd put in that bracket. But overall, I feel this is the end for the Southgate reign. Dont expect us to match the last 2 major tournaments and he seems a little out of ideas. Thanks for the great memories though!

The only way players like Gallagher (or JWP if he was picked) would get any game time would be against Wales IF we win the first two games. Trippier will be on free kicks.

I think Southgate has done a tremendous job and to me has rid the team of the losing mentality and fear of failure. A World Cup semi final and Euro final beats anything anyone else has ever done, except Sir Alf. I think he's still got a lot more to give.

I'm not saying I wouldn't play him. In fact I've defended Sterling as much as anyone previously. Just merely pointing out that he's not in form and Southgate is showing his loyalty. He was arguably our best player last year. I fear for this squad as the defence and midfield don't look very world class for me. Even for the decent striking options, if Kane got injured we are screwed. I agree the defence is not the best except at RB where we are strong. Having said that it is a settled defence that know each other's games well, that can count for alot at int level.

I think we’ll get knocked out by the first very good side we come up against and that based purely on the fact that we have always got knocked out against the first very good side we’ve played against in my time watching England. But I’m still looking forward to a month of World Cup football. Engerland Engerland Engerland!!!

Not up with the latest news on the world cup. Has Loft made the England squad or has his injury stopped him this time ?

He'll play Maguire and Sterling first game. Perhaps Sterling will do nothing and Maguire will make a couple mistakes and so he's forced to drop them for better options. Very pleased Maddison got in, his numbers have been great and he offers something slightly different.

The one area I was unsure of was Wilson vs Toney vs Abraham. After some contemplation yesterday I think Wilson is the right choice. He's in the best form out of the 3 right now and he is also a different option to the others. I see Abraham and Toney as great players but somewhat similar to Kane in what they offer. Wilson is a battering ram in some aspects and that's what pips him for me. Offers us a plan B if we need a goal. Get him on, bombard the box and let him cause some carnage and occupy some defenders to give some of the more skilled players some space to work in.
I don't think we'll get to semis this time, too many good teams we could potentially meet in the quarters. Imo the problem is the tactics and the system. We have some of the best young attacking talent we've had in a while and I think a top manager would have won us the euros. We'll likely be found out pretty early on.

Then again, perhaps Toney should be on the plane just to take a penalty.

Then again, perhaps Toney should be on the plane just to take a penalty. I think Wilson is good at penalties too? Realistically though is the back up striker actually going to get any game time? I imagine Southgate would like to take Kane off if we are winning comfortably (5 subs will allow this) but he also has Rashford who has been playing more centrally so it’s possible even he maybe ahead of Wilson in the pecking order.

A difficult job as there are millions of experts who are always right - with the power of hindsight.
His treatment of Foden when he left the hotel gave him a nasty shock which he may not have had at Man City, so I would expect the players to be better people as Southgate is in charge.
The results in the lead up may not have been the best, but I am hopefully of some thrilling games supporting the country.
Best of luck to Wales as well. I always wanted the home nations to do well. Was delirious when Hamilton scored N Ireland's winner v Spain and Hughesy bicycle kick and when Narey put Scotland ahead v Brazil and when Jack Charlton's boys did exceptionally well.
Don't get this mentality of seeing them lose.

Have to say this is the least interested/excited I've been for a World Cup. Not sure I'll even watch much. Everything is wrong about it. Thank goodness our league football continues through it. You might even find it helps lower league clubs attendances. What with Championship and Prem not playing.

Not sure about increase in attendances as they're all on iFollow, including tomorrow.
