As a stated JB hater I begrudgingly accept what he is doing. How do you rally the troops? Simple philosophy in action, defined by the lowest common denominator (hate of the sh** ) For what it's worth he has taken us back to where we were, nothing more, nothing less, albeit with a more resilient and improved playing staff. Long way to go yet, those that do, enjoy the ride. Target one has to be to get above the filth one day, would be great to see it and I applaud Barton for aiming that way. If we get above them he will overtake DC on statistics alone. I’ll correct you there, JB just needs a top ten finish to be the most successful manager since Olly. It’s not the where we are it’s the journey to get here, very exciting times ahead

We got relegated, then promoted. Same div just 18 months wasted. You can't really blame JB for the relegation as he came in after the transfer window, and to be fair the damage was already done by Garner and Tisdale. Joey could only work with the players he had at the time not his signings. Lets not forget some of the unprofessional actions by certain players, the chewing tobacco issue at the club and the whole Starnes and Widdrington fiasco I agree, although this inevitably brings the comments of “But, but, but he promised he would keep us up and he didn’t, so it must be all his fault - nobody else, just him . . .” So, he (a) misjudged the seriousness of the situation; (b) Tried to lift a broken, dispirited and angry fanbase by promising something he honestly thought he could deliver; (c) Acknowledged the reality when it became apparent there was no saving that season or our L1 status; (d) Showed himself to be human and therefore fallible, just like the rest of us . . . I am not going to pass comment on his character, as I don’t know him & I’ve never met him; but as our club’s manager I can’t see that he’s done anything other than improve us at every level. I think we are actually now on that journey that we’ve all been fantasising about for years and I truly believe that he will be the one to get us to the promised land of the Championship. How long that will take I don’t know, but I think we’re looking more likely to achieve it now than at any time in recent memory. So good on you Joe, long may you continue. UTFG! (Truly he is the Kwisatz Haderach)

(Truly he is the Kwisatz Haderach) Fine words. I certainly don’t go along with the ‘he’s only got us back to where we were’ way of thinking, this club was a total mess between GC leaving (Dec 2019) and Barton walking in the door (March 2021) That would suggest we’re in the exact same state as when Garner & Tisdale had the reigns. Sinking from 3rd to 14th in 3 months, 2mins away from the longest period of not scoring a league goal in the clubs history, Worst assembled squad in recent times, players chewing Tobacco during training etc…you know the drill! The club, squad, coaching staff, medical department, standards & culture all light years ahead of where we were only 18 months ago. Testament to the job JB is doing here. Long May it continue and who knows where it’ll take us!

Why not it's someone's opinion and have made a fair case to why. We look more professional on and off the pitch than we have in years recruitment seems to be better than what is use to be and as JB has said we aren't being ripped off by clubs/players anymore who want extortionate money for average players. Your hatred off the man is more embarrassing and you can't bring yourself to see what many others can. Starts to argue the case “why not it’s someone’s opinion” then proceeds to call mine embarrassing. Statistically mine is correct as opposed to those with their crystal balls but you do you 👍 For Rovers JB has 1.39 PPG, DC 1.51. Your stats are not correct though are they as DC at the start of his tenure was poor. You have used his overall record and not the same timescale and games played. I didn't say who's opinion is right or wrong you stated that you couldn't believe what you were reading and didn't back it up with anything until the ppg average. You have a hatred of JB which is your prerogative but don't let it cloud over the fact he is turning us around from being an absolute laughing stock that we had become. The positivity running through the club/players/fans is something I haven't seen for years and the majority are enjoying this upward curve and are believing that we can take the next step up into Championship. For most that is good enough and yes there is no guarantees that we will get there but I am loving attending the Mem and travelling away again as it seemed to become a bit of a chore as there was no buzz around the ground. Is this down to JB 100% yes it is and whether you like him ,tolerate him or hate him you have to agree he has done a fantastic job here so far.

Meanwhile, Joe is being ground-breaking. Waited so long for a confident manager having belief in our club. Always good to aim high. Read this. Take it in. Just inspiring. Yeah, he gets it. www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/joey-barton-bristol-rovers-city-7463500“You want to play for us. Why would you not want to play for us? We make every player better. If you come in and you want to work hard and get better, we do everything at a ridiculously high level for the level we're playing at. It's Championship and above in every aspect. “If you're a young player and you come here, you get better. If you're an idiot and you don't want to put it in and cut corners and you want to think there is a shortcut, you will get emptied out here because the group just won't have you. “My commitment to the Gasheads is that every person that pulls on that jersey will give everything they've got for the football club because we're custodians, we don't own the club. We will all disappear in a period of time and we want to set a legacy here that sets the benchmark for the blue half of Bristol”

I’m just saying at this point nothing has been achieved and I’m not sure how anyone can argue with that . Things are looking so much better at the moment but unless we get promoted in his next few yrs with us it’s not ‘success’ . I’m def in the camp that thinks he might get us promoted. I count my chickens when they’re hatched. 🐣 When you look at the team we had was is it any surprise. Wasn't Westbrooke supposed to be our star player. The team really was a shambles, the quality of the team was low assembled by Ben Garner. People keep saying we were not in the relegation zone when Joey arrived...its not an argument..if you are a bad side that continues to lose you continue to fall down the table. 2 years later we now have a side that would wipe the floor with what we saw assembled by Ben Garner. I think the bit that annoys people (myself included) was the way that he seemed to just give up. It was in our own hands and we were playing the teams around us.

Every managers success or failure is always relative to the situation the club was in at the time. Fans might always have unrealistic measures of what should be achieved. There have been many great things done over the years at Rovers . I still think the greatest all time achievement was Gerry Francis winning league one and then achieving midtable championship finishes for a couple of seasons. When you consider the situation the club was in it shouldnt of happened. We should have been relegated and gone bust by all sensible reasoning. For JB to become our greatest manager he needs to reach the championship playoffs....either several times...or to win promotion. He is currently sat amongst the good company of managers who have done well at Rovers. I don't think the era's are comparable tbf.
Back when Gerry Francis was manager and we were at Twerton, Oxford were getting to the top flight and winning a League Cup, Wimbledon were finishing in the top 6 of the top flight and winning an FA Cup, around that time Cambridge also got to the old Division 2 Play Offs the season before the Premier League was formed.
They were all former non league clubs in grounds not to dissimilar to Twerton.
Stuff like that doesn't happen anymore.
We've had the likes of Wigan, Reading, Swansea, Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford etc have success recently but they've all had major investment or new stadiums.
If Joey Barton gets us promoted again he has to be right up there in achievements.
Yes, absolutely deserved when that happens.

That is why he is not above DC at this current moment in time but you lot do you. Your post is a great example of this. The guy has won about 4 games at League 1 level out of 20 if not 25. I can’t be bothered to look it up for accuracy but can’t be far off. When he improves on that he can be considered better than DC but he has a long way to go. Regardless of what I think of him. Those who just come at me with “you hate him” have no other argument.

Did you insist on a 70 metre head start at the 100m sprint in school days?

You need to move on from your love in with DC - he’s gone - he’s history and won’t be coming back - embrace Bristol Rovers as they are now. When DC was sacked he was a busted flush here after winning just 4 games in 21 and fortunately in some respects he didn’t have another relegation on his CV because that’s where we were heading. - he then carried his lack of tactical awareness on to Walsall where he failed miserably and walked out on them. These are facts! If you insist on comparing stats it may be worth comparing ‘apples with apples’ and compare DC’s EFL stats with JB’s and not include the ‘free hit’ results achieved in non league football. Whether you like it or not (clearly you don’t) JB is tactically and recruitment wise light years ahead of DC and the proof will be in the pudding come this season end.

There is a cold dread which fills quite a few fans hearts if Rovers get promoted or have a really good season. After leading the charge to get him out, it’s going to be ugly. As you can see, they’re clinging on to the hope that he will flop. This is all related to personality and they’ve come to believe nice guys win and tough guys always fail. When in reality, it’s generally the opposite. So it’s not just about Barton, it’s about their fundamental paradigm being challenged.

I’m on this bus, climbing mountains and, like so many across our club excited about our future. Joe has so many of us looking forward now with expectation and excitement. It’s what winners do. Matches can’t come quick enough. This team going places.

I’ve even spotted some of his harshest online critics & sworn boycotters sneaking back into the Mem/fanzones as recent as the last league game. Of course I’d never begrudge a Gashead watching football at the Mem & paying their bucks. You'd just stand to look a tad ridiculous when you’ve nailed your colours to a mast that hard, only to go back on them completely once the squad start creeping up the division. Here’s to JB taking us to levels we’ve long since frequented!

Reason I ask is that my Mrs had a perception of JB based purely on what she had read in the media and it wasn’t a nice one… she has since met him and spoken with him on numerous occasions in a variety of circumstances and her perception has changed - she has said he’s really genuine, a really open and nice guy who is friendly and pleasant to talk to. He’s also very generous and always wanting to help and support the wider things in the club if he can… Not saying you’d be the same but just didn’t know if your views were based on the media or direct interactions with him?

I think that's rather disrespectful to DC, didn't he leave by "mutual consent"? Also I would not describe the Conference as a "free hit" with regard to results achieved, this is shown by the fact that not many ex-league clubs bounce back at the first attempt. I'll always have immense respect for DC, he brought the club back from rock bottom, and instilled a sense of togetherness throughout the club, which had been lacking for a long time. JB has played at the top level, has brought that knowledge and experience to Rovers, and has made great strides behind the scenes and on the pitch. However, this doesn't diminish DC's achievements in any way - different times and circumstances. UTG

Also why talk about his ‘lack of tactical awareness’ at Walsall (where he didn’t fail in any case) but conveniently forget he’s just got Port Vale promoted after going through personal hell. I cannot see the logic in standing up for the current manager by diminishing the record of a previous one who by any objective criteria, did really well.
