Just don't tell Mario that. Imo we are really lucky to have Joey as our manager. He played at the highest level, he has a really good network of contacts at a number of the top premiership clubs, but most of all he is so strategically astute, and knows how to win. We will really miss when he leaves the MEM, and you cannot blame him leaving with all the stick he gets on social media. When he leaves do you really think he'll get less stick elsewhere? The fact Sterling is already getting death threats really sums up how low social media has got.

Just one gripe today, the attendance of 8,297 was very poor. Over 700 less than against FGR. Did Oxford return tickets late? Lot of empty seats in the South Stand. Thatchers end looked sparse in places. The system for the South Stand does not appear to be working as envisaged. The weather & the early k/o time definitely had a bearing on the attendance today, a lot of regular season ticket holders who sit around me in the east stand weren’t there today & I would imagine that was replicated around the ground. Think I heard Oxford brought 882 out of their 1200 allocation. Apparently it was 885 Oxford.

Was looking on the Oxford fans forum.... They really do hate us and I noticed they don't understand why we hate Matty Taylor?
Are they a bit thick or what!

Great to have a home win, away win, clean sheet and key players scoring so early on in the season.
Important to get some of those millstones off our backs.

Just got back...
Wow, what a day...! No problems getting in, and all the basics appeared to work today with staff actually competent and services available.
Nice to see some faces again.
On pitch we appeared to match up Oxford formation and out do them in the end, but I thought the first 30 mins we struggled to keep up with them until the goal. And the long range shot.
Really like the engine and energy this team create. We'll need more players to sustain this in depth.
Anderson running on right, assisted with my m o m Saunders whom just never gave up and was the catalyst in creating the goal as he was fouled for set piece was great to watch.
To add, really like Flash on left with his help of mainly Aaron, whose running and support made the latter appear everywhere.
Hoole had steadfast match in CD, and again (he seems to get one of these per match, at least), went on a mazy dangerous run which almost culminated in own goal!? But, as much as I like him, and his partner Billy Connolly, they conspired to allow the best opportunity for opposition to head over unmarked second half ...
Sam Finley is fast becoming as important as Evans. His wizardry ball to bisect their defence is sumptuous to watch (ably protected by Whelan)....he done this v Burton. AE didn't have the best creative game, but if you watch the highlights, Ox first opportunity hit the bar with looping header and rebound was about to be followed in by fella until a timely, acrobatic clearance by.....AE. If anyone else just doesn't understand his inclusion, they will now.
Oxford are a good team. Unfortunately, they look like a one trick pony outfit. I think I remember their plight as in we have to have wingers, we have to have big strikers, we have to have 2 massive beasts in central defence....but in actual fact, the game (and to a certain extent, ours) has moved on and we can adapt to a more sophisticated construction. Sometimes. I really liked their 18, and up until booking their 5 had Marquis in his pocket. Oxford have been there or there abouts for a few seasons and we drew a valid win, which is mightily encouraging.....but I will say I find it a bit worrying that apart from Loft dainty finish easily for their Keeps to gather, we hardly threatened them in the box.
Ox might on another day walked away with a point. Well, how many times could we have said the same thing?
They tried to persevere with the 4-2-3-1 and it backfired. Mainly because of our running endeavours and tenacity. Also, I'm sure I saw one of their players stamp on ours....on the hamstrings....and their timewasting in first half with keeper playing ball out from other side it went out of was hastily met with a boot out second half!
Well done JAB for his management of the game. He made the right sub call at the right time and brought on right personnel for right bods.
Lastly, lovely to see BB again and I gave him a clap when he was subbed, he had a decent shot from distance but not much else. As opposed to the 🐍 still a lady garden .... Never forget, GasHeads. Never forget.

UTG, Performances continuing like this I worry how long we can keep hold of JB, a revelation this guy. Great stuff, a joy to watch. Absolutely agree. It was a joy to watch, for sure. I am going to enjoy these moments and not worry so much about the future without Joe. Let’s see where the future takes us. With Joe, and let’s not forget his coaching staff, it might well be a long, long way. I am looking forward with optimism. Joe clearly loves what he is doing. He has recently signed a new contract and has big plans for this club. He’s not leaving anytime soon. I don’t fear the future. I, like many more, will enjoy this moment and the many more to come.

Yesterday's win gives me much more confidence for the season than the Burton game.
Oxford were very sloppy with the ball and apart from an open goal header anonymous in our box. Good defending from us throughout the team and a smart second half on an energy draining day.
Obvious we still need some more depth. There were some heavy legs out there at the end and Tuesday comes around quick.

I had a quick look but got bored with the endless deluded twaddle. Apparently we a typical Barton side, a sort of downmarket Wycombe. The sort that sit near the top of the table, not propping it up. For a supposedly established league 1 side who are usually challenging for play off spot I thought Oxford looked pretty ordinary & didn’t even know Bodin was on the pitch until he got substituted. Genuine question, i can't make my mind up whether they were ordinary or our performance made them look ordinary !

Genuine question, i can't make my mind up whether they were ordinary or our performance made them look ordinary ! Our performance almost certainly nullified their threat and they struggled to cope with the heat. A first half lead in those conditions was huge but we still managed the 2nd half incredibly well. Not really got a mention today but Collins was a real thorn in their defence first half, did brilliantly for the goal and is starting to link up well with Marquis. It’s looking bright.

My predicted team (I always get these wrong) Belly Hoole Kilgour Connolly Gordon Finley coutts Anderson Evans Collins Marquis Subs Jaakola Gibson Grant Rossiter Lawerence Loft Saunders I'd imagine the biggest question mark is who starts CB. I think he will throw Gibson in and Kilgour on the bench. Coutts and Finley in midfield is a massive upgrade on 2 weeks ago when we had Westbrooke and Rossiter. Love both although Coutts didn't start the season well last year and that was without being a few games behind due to suspension! Heard a stat on Having a gas that the longest Marquis has gone without scoring is 15 games. Today is his 15th game... Half a BOOM! I'm not claiming credit for this one as didn't find the stat or say he would score, but it happened! 😊

Very professional performance. Quality goal and other great moves that didn’t quite come off. The worlds moved on and I can’t imagine Bodin or Taylor getting in our side Took me 60 minutes to realise Bodin was even on the pitch! Don’t recall him touching the ball. He had a tame by his standards shot straight at Belly second half. He got his shot away cleanly, but it wouldn't have troubled anyone as it lacked that Bodin-esque lashed shot that we remember. Interesting, he appeared to be nullified amongst a few others, because fa cup here last season he ran us a bit ragged and even got his goal..... credit for the hard work running around tracking his movements and stifling his play from Finley and Whelan, and to a certain extent, Collins.....we really have appeared to have assembled a team that will run it's heart out for each other!? Yesterday showed stamina in that heart. When last we were in this division, if we gave the ball away it felt like "oh well!" ....marked improvement from those days and credit to management team so far for continuing upward momentum.

Sad day for me. We had to leave the mem 20 mins before KO as I received a call saying my Mum had passed away. I was with 2 of my sons and my eldest drove us to her nursing home to say our goodbyes. The result lifted us on a very sad day.
