I think you can play U21 international football and switch nations at senior level but I’m not 100% sure. Blimey, we are jumping the gun a bit here, he has had on fantastic season with what was a league 2 club, it’s a long way from being picked and playing for England. I do wish him all the very best though, of course True, but to be fair it’s not such a big jump to be playing for Scotland though, is it? (with apologies to Big Jock!) Researching this a bit more, 5 players in the current Scotland squad played last season in the Championship and 1 played in league 1. It’s feasible he might have a decision to make a bit sooner than you’d have thought! He is a Geordie who has grown up supporting Newcastle so it is interesting to see how this might develop.

Looks as though Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Elliot Anderson should be playing in the championship as a minimum IMO. However if he were to play in league 1 next season, there’s no denying on paper Wednesday are the biggest attraction on paper. Having said that though, I’m not sure a team who play 3-5-2 like Wednesday do would suit Anderson all too well. He’s better off playing for a side where the wingers aren’t expected as much in the defensive responsibilities. Don’t you think that feeling and seeing the elation, that was evident at our club would influence any player nowadays ? Personally speaking and from what seems like another age, i would choose winning over much else but then, i wasn’t being paid and knew it wasn’t a career. I have said the same about Evans, if he doesn’t feel like signing, after the season we just had and the adulation he got, then i dont know what else would do the job, apart from the obvious money and that is never a guarantee of even starting a game let alone getting regular starts.

Very unlikely. Not Bristol born, no affiliation to the club, no reason to choose us over someone like Sheff Weds. If he were to go to a club outside the Championship SW would be the next best thing.

We'll just have to rely on EA loving working with JB in order to tempt him to return then!

Elliot has been tremendous, would love to see him back at the MEM; however, he is so good, imo, if he is not in the Newcastle first team, then next season he should be plying his trade in the Championship. Best of luck to him.

He was influential in their promotion out of league one but not quite good enough for the championship.

Cheers for the tidbit of information as i did wonder why his career seemed to stutter at that point. I guess a player can get better by having better players around him, things is the championship is full of what used to be regular old tier 1 teams too. I look at certain teams and wonder how they got there or, more so, why

If he is being paid still by Newcastle, I would be a bit disappointed if he ends up at another league 1 club.
Love the club to bring him and the CBs back to the club. Would really just need an out and out striker and a CM imo

Won promotion to the championship with them as a first team regular and as far as I remember was doing ok the following season until injury set him back.. then wasn’t it a change in management that pushed him out eventually? That’s just vague memory off the top of my head tho tbh

Best of luck to him. If we can make it to the championship in the next couple/few years under Barton and Elliott doesn’t quite make it in the prem.. a fresh start with the man that helped get him going at the club he’s already a legend would surely be an appealing proposition. That’s a lot of ifs buts and maybes tho lmao I hope he makes it big

In the past when a loan player had a good spell here I always had a justification for them coming back.. but I just haven't got that for Billy. He should step up to the Championship at a minimum and deserves to. If he ends up back here i'll be both baffled and buzzing.

Billy is good enough to hold a starting place in the championship and May well have options there if he goes out on loan again…
But, having spoken with some of the club last season Billy has a really strong relationship with Barton, really loved his time in Bristol and his family also came down regularly (I think they may have celebrated a family birthday in Bristol whilst he was here too)… he also loved the welcome and relationship he had with the fans and a big selling point is he wants to play…
With all of this in mind, I do think we have a good chance of him joining on loan again as long as Newcastle sanction a move to League 1 rather than insisting on championship and he doesn’t stay with them as a fringe 1st teamer….

Whilst players can learn a lot at any club they join on loan. That may even be knowing what not to do as they see things fail. As a manager one would want a player ideally to feature in a team that gets to the playoffs or direct promotion. They learn whats needed to succeed .
So with that in mind would i realistically send Elliot Anderson back to Rovers for the league one season ? I might consider it but i would wait to see who will be playing and training alongside of him first.

I think if we keep this side together, then no reason why we can't have a good go ourselves next season. We looked more than capable than competing with league 1 side imo. Best footballing side I have seen in 30 odd years I can remember anyway.
