Hope that wasn't meant sarcastically, certainly wouldn't catch me parachuting no matter the cause. Met someone in the Children's hospital who did sky dives to raise funds, really impressive the numbers involved. I once interviewed someone for a job who in the interview said he raised £1,000s for charity. Turned out he was a 'chugger'. Odd tactics the chuggers use, aggressive baiting to win your card details. Capitalists doing charity, what could go wrong? Charity is mostly just papering over the cracks isn't it, a failure of the state... Sure makes us feel nice about ourselves though. Doesn't the basis of charity predate the welfare state and therefore, if anything, the State has been stepping in? Also some charities are funded from government who also give tax breaks to encourage giving. Overall, though, yes it is a dereliction of duty from government.

Agree with your first paragraph, not sure it's dereliction more about choices and resource,it's a complex area and throwing money at it is not the answer, for me it's about creating opportunity for all and maximising everyone's potential and supporting those who by necessity need it.

Your solution at the end doesn't fit with free market capitalism though, the English system. Capitalism equals winners and losers, with the majority being losers.

Welfare isn't charity, it was essential at the time to provide basic life support to the working classes. We copied it from the Germans who looked after their workers and thrived pre WW1. Do you know where the money came from to fund the UK post war welfare states?

Will you ever give an ounce of credit to anyone from the "right" (Tory voter). Hugo said wouldn't it be great if everyone gave their annual £1.24 contribution to the Royals to charity and specifically said a childrens charity. I replied that I already do that and highlighted what I have done and continue to do and all I receive is sarcastic replies from GGMI (who does jack himself) and a response from yourself saying giving to charity is just pampering over the cracks. Imagine where the world would be if no one donated to charity. How do you know I do Jack myself? I give money to charity, nothing like you do but then maybe I have less money? Who knows? But not that it is anyone's business. Given money to charity is great, what I don't like is people who go on about giving money to charity to come across like an amazing person. Sorry, but it makes me cringe. Well done for giving money to charity though, keep it up. 👍

I agree when people overly brag about it, it’s annoying. But at the same time, if they’re spending so much of their personal time for the good of others, then good on them. If bragging about it makes them feel good and encourages them to continue, then so be it.

I make one comment in reply to Hugo and your saying I go on about it to make myself look like an amazing person..hardly. You just stated you donate so are you making yourself look like an amazing person too ?. I made an assumption about you well, haven't you done the same about me. You don't know how much I give you don't know that you have less money than me. Well done for giving money to charity though, keep it up 👍

Tell me why Capitalism would not want to create opportunities for all and supporting those who need it,seems to me to be perfectly reasonable, more people in work, smaller welfare state win win ,taking away from one section of society to give to another in a penal way never works without solving the underlying issues.

Can I suggest you re read the sequence of comments starting where Hugo suggested donating our £1.24 to a childrens charity and explain where I have specifically made "you" have to justify yourself.

It's worth bearing in mind that the 1.24 still currently needs to be on top of on going donations.

It begins with 'Exploitation of' and ends with 'Third World countries of the British Empire'

It begins with 'Exploitation of' and ends with 'Third World countries of the British Empire' Not really, but I presume you knew this as well as the relevant Acts which state funding sources, especially 1908 and 1911. Will you be foregoing your entitlement in protest?

Will you be foregoing your entitlement in protest? Impossible to say what will be around by the time we retire. Even personal pensions are stagnant at the moment, e.g. my current one with a new employer has profits of less than £100 since August and I pay in quite a lot. I don't get the argument of stating silly hypocrisies... Yes, the NHS is partly funded by selling weapons to Saudi Arabia. The phone I'm using has precious minerals that people are killed for in Africa. You can choose to ignore them, fine, but for anything to change at all discussion is needed.
