Work for a living!!!! Will you still be working into your 90s ? So if we demolish everything relating to royality in the UK you really think tourists would flock to the UK to see our presidents house? Do me a favour. No, they’ll flock to see Buckingham Palace, former seat of the monarchy, just like they flock to see Versailles in France. Maybe you could open more of it up and have guided tours without anyone living there. Ah OK I get it. We say thank you to the Monarchy for 1200 years of our history, thank you for everything you've done for the UK, thank you for the buildings that millions flock to every year, thank you for the income you generate for the UK but f**k the lot of you we no longer need you and we'll kick you out but We'll keep all the royal palaces etc and shove a president in it. God forbid.

Do they though? Do you think that tourism will drop when Jug-ears and the Horse are the Leaches in Cheif at the Palace? We should have cut them off a long time ago. Then they would actually have to work for a living like the rest of us. Work for a living!!!! Will you still be working into your 90s ? So if we demolish everything relating to royality in the UK you really think tourists would flock to the UK to see our presidents house? Do me a favour. Top 5 most visited countries in the world are all republics. France being #1 with some of its most popular sites being former royal grounds.

Returning to the man, rather than the pros and cons of the institution itself:

Who’s money do you think paid for those palaces ? must of missed that bit where the sweat & toil of the royal family paid for all those buildings and thousands of acres of land . it’s sad he’s died just like it’s sad if anyone dies but he’s lived a life of luxury only a few people ever get to live .

God forbid. Far too much money spent on far too many hangers on. The Queen is on of the richest people in the world. Prince Charles owns acres of land and 1000s of properties. Are you seriously suggesting they would be destitute if they stopped leaching off us? And what work do they actually do? Wave at us plebs a few times a year? My heart bleeds for them. Try being a nurse or paramedic. That's bloody working. EDIT. Prince Phillip's tax funded annual income was equivalent to around 20 nurses income. That's not taking into account his estimated 30M worth and his incomes from Dutchy estates and the Queens income that she divides up.

There'll be more public grief over the death of one 99 y/o parasite, than the 120,000 victims of a criminal pandemic response.
Some people are obsessed with money, power & status, they will do anything possible to bask in its reflected glory.

Thought this was pretty much spot on............
Two pieces Daily Mail columnists can have ready to go right now:
1. Why Meghan Markle’s presence at the funeral is an insult, designed to overshadow a somber occasion.
2. Why Meghan Markle’s absence from the funeral, is an insult, designed to overshadow a somber occasion.

I cant stand the royals and find it hard to disagree with some of the comments on here too. But putting all of that aside, this is someone who served our country in the war has died so a certain level of respect must be paid to the man.
RIP

Dont want to get into a debate. But honestly, there is no credibility in an un democratic institution using other peoples money (taxpayer) to front worthy causes and then shout "Look at me" But its a death and he has family whatever the circumstances of his life. Lets just leave it there. Just a question...whose money is used on the upkeep of presidential palaces? Macron has come under criticism for spending €600k on flowers in the Elysee Palace despite not a single tourist coming through the door. Did that come from his back pocket? Did it heck the french taxpayer funded it. I would say the Royal Family bring in more income to the UK through tourism, trade etc than what they cost the tax payer, so have been and will continue to be good value for money. His shirts are crap too. #Macron

Not a Royalist by any stretch but have a certain sense of pride that we have them, they do a lot of good, bring good money in through tourism, sure don't do me any harm and it's sad that he's passed away today.
