Now we're talking! Used to love them on a Thursday night during the 70's at the Colson Hall (now known as the Beacon) Kendo, Shirly, Elijah etc

Right.... I'm on a quest to find something similar to the chicken balti pies they used to sell at the mem (god I miss those things).... First up.... Iceland's chicken tikka bakes 2 for £1: The verdict: Pastry's good actually.... Sauce tastes pretty much spot on which surprised me.... But on the day these were made I think most of the chickens had escaped from the factory, but then again at 50p a unit there was still more chicken than I expected.... 8/10

Gregs Wallace? 😁 And you’ve gone too early with an 8 surely? Especially for a chicken pie without chicken.

Price will be a big factor in the score, as let's be honest at the mem they were £2 a pop (if I remember correctly) and by far the best value item available.... Which I assume is why they stopped selling them....

2nd up.... Aldi chicken tikka slices 2 for £1.29.... To be honest there's a slice of déjà vu about this (slice.... Do you get it.... Never mind) only this says 'with British chicken pieces' on the packet, so thats grounds for optimism.... The verdict.... The pastry despite its rather posh 'lattice' appearance fell short. Started going black in the oven after 5 minutes due to how dry it was, and despite being described as puff pastry actually had very similar characteristics to a digestive biscuit, should have made myself a cup of tea to dunk it in.... The sauce was too mild, tasted more like an Italian herb number than curry. However there was noticably more chicken in it so by virtue of description I suppose this should be the better product.... But its not, it wasn't an enjoyable experience at all.... Sorry Aldi 2/10

Panic not, I'm sourcing asda and Morrison's over the weekend, this is where I reckon the big guns are lurking....

Does the budget stretch to Marks & Spencers, or maybe Baggins Chauffeur could pick a couple up from Harrods

Ginsters chicken tikka slices are ok, in that slightly weird curry in pastry way.
