The sign of a good football manager is when they can get an average squad together and get them to play above their level, I’m not talking about Jose or gaurdiola who always have pretty much an open cheque book, I’m talking about the likes of Clough or Gerry Francis for us in the late 80s early 90s. Cogs has done that ever since he arrived and he’s been brilliant for us. I don’t care if there’s a minority that can’t take to him, and neither should he.

Reading between the lines I think you’re right. Not sure how long his contract is but it sounds like he & his family have a big decision to make. Uproot his wife & kids from Sheffield to move down here which is a massive thing to do . What security has he got .... it’s a gamble . What’s he being paid.... the ‘cheap option’ as some have said might mean he’s thinking is it worth it ? He needs rewarding for his fantastic first yr with a pay rise and the security of at least 2 prob 3 yr contract. He also needs the backing of the fans.... in numbers turning up at the Mem. We’re doing better.... much better but the crowds are down. This is ultimately what the bean counters will look at and ponder before risking offering him an improved contract. It’s chicken & egg. What’s needed now is a 10k plus gate on sat. That’s our bit Gasheads. Could be a call for a pay rise and a new contract? Commitment from the club. To be fair he was given 2.5 years already which was quite a statement of intent for a man with no previous experience. He’s had half a good season with his own team and the football hasn’t been cultured, is he in a position to demand a 5 year contract now?

If we don't have a go now, we might as well all give up and go home.

If Coughlan goes we need mass protests against the board. Wow. Protesting at what exactly? The fact they aren't prepared to move us deeper into debt?

If there’s ever a time to back a manager, it’s now. Is this the highest we’ve been since Holloway’s team from the 99/00 season?
With us doing so well, maybe even JCH would like to stay. At least until the end of the season then move on if we don’t go up.

Let’s just enjoy the win and see what happens, wrong of him to say it after that result as players need more focus on them as it’s now left everything flat. We beat Ipswich and NICHOLS scored for ffs

Wow - surprised to read this. His reaction after the game - pumping his fists and beating his chest in front of the fans, and getting a lot of good response - doesn't fit with this statement.
He said when he got the job he had been overlooked by many clubs and was grateful/happy to be given a chance by Rovers. I really hope whatever it is - and I'm hoping it is just family stuff - can be overcome because the fight and determination that his side showed today, and in other games this season is second to none - it really is 'Twerton' spirit.

Ok sounds like an investment in the club matter. Interesting considering this time last year he wasn't interested in the off the field matters, the stadium was fine and the training ground satisfactory. Now he's gone full DC.
What has made him change his outlook? Is it the reality of being a proper football manager looking to progress vs getting onto the ladder for the first time like last year?
If he's still with us next Saturday we need to back him 100% and not give him the usual abuse 15 mins in when someone misplaces a pass.

Seems from the bristol live interviewer that the investment and off the field stuff is a massive part of the problem. He did say a few times last week that he wished that the club was more United. Sounds like fun behind the scenes.

The fact we aren't prepared to have a go when in this position. Haven't got to go mental, but if we aren't prepared to have a go, what is the point? Fact is if we don't have a go now, you'll be looking at about 3k less on the gate - and we'll be much worse off then.

Could be pay level.

I can't see what his family have to do with matters given he's spent the last decade plus either in the south west or south east.
I sense he's after a decent pay rise now his stock is at his highest, whether the ALQ's have the finances/long term interest is anybody's guess. I can't see any club closer to his home is an obvious candidate to offer him a job?

Its been a while, maybe the "nearly" season? Yes I think so, twenty years ago! If we don’t bother going for it we may have to wait another twenty years for the next chance!

Dear GC I don't pretend to be ITK about your situation but would just like to say 'thank you' from the bottom of my heart for the graft ,determination, and know how to save this club from relegation and turn an average side into a team who are challenging at the top end of the table, I hope that what ever the turmoil is going on inside your head, can quickly be dealt with to your satisfaction and wish you and your family every happiness for the future ,I would be gutted if that future was any where else but at Rovers, every man has to make the right decision for his family but be assured 99% of Gas eds would love you to continue the job you have started here and would be devastated if your future lies else where, good luck!!

If so there is no loyalty to the club who gave him a 2.5 year contract and showed some faith in him. Very poor timing on GC’s behalf imo.

We beat Ipswich and NICHOLS scored for ffs It’s wrong to suggest that what’s he’s said is wrong because we don’t know the situation . He might have had some bad news about something personal , we don’t know. Cogs speaks from the heart, he’s blurted something out that’s got everyone guessing yes but I really admire the honesty of the man. I suggest we keep supporting the man in the majority of cases and start supporting the man in the case of the people who “ can’t take to him” because we’re knocking on the door of promotion and championship football next season. Graham Coughlan has been a revelation for Bristol Rovers football club and deserves more respect than many at least on here are giving him.

And why leave right now, on the verge of promotion? Do it at the end of the season when we've missed out and blame the owners. Seems odd. Just hope it's all emotional.

Could be pay level. Well both more likely. Either way is it just me or does it seem a bit poor to use our league position to agitate for an improved contract when he has barely done half a job?
