Job done, good draw and given the probable team Brighton will field every chance of getting to third round. We looked much better up front and now have options, Smith looks a good finisher ,with good awareness ,hence the lay off for third goal. Back four look good and we have options there to, in fact we have options all over field. G/K IS OK but wish he was not obsessed with punching, cos he aint that good at it! Just need that final piece or two of jigsaw, wide man and creative midfielder, I am sue GC will sort it by end of window and is to be congratulated on business so far imo. So happy days, we are on an upward curve but don't expect miracles at COVENTRY please, we are a work in progress and heading in the right direction. As for this otib thing, its a classic case of poor little rich kids with nothing better to do than ridicule there less fortunate neighbours, what they really crave is that special feeling of belonging that fans of clubs like ours have which they will never have, its not anything you can quantify but sure all Gas eds will know what I mean. I am sure that when we were in national league we did not disrespect the fans and clubs we played, in fact I had great admiration for them and the devotion of there fans. As far as last night goes if they care to study the attendances they will find the numbers at the Mem compared favourably with others ,bearing in mind our opposition, and the crowd at QPR for a game with two 'Championship' clubs was not exactly huge was it? then again you can't educate S--t can you/up the Rovers!!

I wasn't there last night but my Father seemed to think JCH pulled up after a stretchung lunge? Anyone any unfo? I wasn't at the game either but I would imagine that would be fairly big news considering he is arguably our best player who has just returned from an injury so it surely would have been mentioned on here previously or GC would have been quizzed on it in his post match interview...

He did wince but then gave an immediate thumbs up to the bench. Wasn't noticabky inconvenienced afterwards so don't think there was a problem.

To be fair to Marcus Trescothick - he only just gets in the top three pupils to emerge from Sir Bernard Lovell school - Holloway, Me & then him! One of England's greats, and note that Moeen Ali is taking a break from cricket to "re-charge". utg. I made it as a moderator on this forum so surely I nudge him out of the top 3? Blimey. There's loads of us. 5th place for me then please!

I thought Alfie Kilgour booked his place in the first team last night. Exceptionally strong in the air and very good distribution. His Cryuff turn to get out of trouble was also impressive. Accepting we'll play better opposition, I would go with Kilgour and Davies as our centre back pairing. Two goals and a very unselfish assist from Tyler Smith - a very positive performance. Kyle Bennett was also a stand out and I thought Liam Sercombe was much better last night. Overall a massively promising performance. Alfie did play well but it's a bit soon to suggest he should replace Tony Craig. Let's remember that the opposition were extremely poor and that Big Tone has been the model of consistency for the best part of two seasons here. Encouraging performance all round though I disagree. We made Cheltenham look toothless because we played well defensively, individually and as a unit.
On last night's showing Kilgour's distribution is better than Craig or Davies. He was also dominant in the air.
This isn't in any way a dig at Tony Craig, but my opinion is that Kilgour is (potentially) the best Central defender we have at the club.

I wasn't there last night but my Father seemed to think JCH pulled up after a stretchung lunge? Anyone any unfo? He stretched a leg to reach an overhit cross-field ball. Pulled up for a few seconds, but you get the feeling that it will take more than that to put him out. His movement was fine afterwards and he went on to score.
GC seemed to hint that he didn't intend to play JCH for as long last night, but he wanted to stay on. He was slightly rusty at times, but there were plenty of good signs from JCH last night.

If you check Cheltenham's first two league games this was more or less their best squad with the exception of Broom and Reilly.
I agree with the poster who would push Nicols down to 4th choice striker - Smith showed how a real striker should play!
Plus, is Ollie Clarke now our new creative midfielder?

Ollie is a good player, and whilst he isn't creative like Lines was, he is effective and an all rounder. Play Oggogo as the holding midfielder and allow Ollie to make the judgement on attacking or otherwise and with two other creative wider men, that will do for now. Upson is just a tad to slow, when we are 2 up with 15 to go and suffering pressure bring him on as another defensive option.

Yeah smiths movement and finishing was fantastic last night. It’s so good to see a striker play off the shoulder and time his runs so perfectly and then make those runs so direct in to great scoring chances. We haven’t had that since Taylor left . No offence to JCH but he’s not really that kind of forward and he linked up well with Smith last night. Need to start those two up front Saturday.

Just reading this thread is absolute proof why we should be taking every cup seriously.
The difference between today's positivity, compared to yesterdays negativity is unbelievable.

And Cup wins bring extra income yes? Income, positivity & a run of good form. It's a win win scenario really. Win the cup game & we can put a little run together. Lose it & it's not the end of the world.

Good performance last night with some young players getting a real confidence boost. The midfield diamond looked better balanced with bennett in for upson. Tyler smith scored 2 pure poachers goals which made a nice change.

Lose it & it's not the end of the world. More we win, more confidence we get. Cup, League, whatever. I'm sure the squad will go into the Coventry game Saturday feeling much better than if we'd lost last night.

Just really hope Cogs sticks to his "play for the jersey" mantra and selects the same team for Saturday

Saturday’s line up should be unchanged barring any knocks or niggles.
Though I fear it’ll be 2/3 changes. Hare, Kilgour & Bennett all must start, in my opinion.
