I had better phone the local bus company up on Monday then and ask for the bus timetable Carmarthenshire to BRFC St Phillips marsh stadium. I wonder what all the other large number of long distance Gasheads will do without their cars? I don't think parking will be an issue for people wishing to drive from distance as you can work out your own park and ride system easily, you for example could use (thinking of places with heaps of residential parking) patchway, filton abbeywood, possibly even Stapleton road. Clare and myself went from Severn beach to Temple meads return a few Saturdays ago and it cost £2 each.... Bit of a sarcastic post by myself there Paul. I will be driving door to door, takes long enough as it is without parking some distance away and park and riding etc. Flash as ever eh Paul, taking your young lady for a day out at Severn beach! |

When I was talking to Directors back in the summer they said they were looking for a site with close rail links as after a recent survey results showed that 80percent of fans travelled to matches by car and this was far to high, the club are looking at laying on buses for fans traveling to the mem. So this site fits in with their strategy. I believe Councillors recommended the site to the club, so when it comes to getting planning permission it should be easier to achieve. Although traveling by car to the ground will not be easy so the club are hoping most people will use public transport. Another advantage of this site is that it is not in a heavy residential area so hopefully fewer objections by nimbies. Sort of. Clarke's wood was compulsory purchased down to the van sales for the new school (1600 students) university island is 5000 student's. Totterdown Bridge is 7 tower blocks of residential (in breach but agreed by the council's planning policy) The idea and concept is to move the city centre to the rear of temple meads. This would make the 'new' stadium just off the city centre. Millennium Stadium style (not that size) |

Wasnt a day out mate, we often go walking from home at the weekends and blaise estate can get overkill, so we sample the delights of avonmouth, Severn side and south gloucs on occasions.... No, I'm not a fan of wordsworth.... or Yeats for that matter... |

Carry on using their cars like me I drive in from Wiltshire not everyone will be able to use public transport. They have trains in wiltshire :-) Steam ones mate...new technology. |

I think he was saying two years for planning etc No he quite clearly said they would hope to get everything done in two years. He said their original plan was three years but a year has past and so they would like to do it in the next two years. Those comments made me think they may be well down the road on the planning . I would like to think that is the case especially as finance suggests they would want it done PDQ and start the income streams going. My understanding was that the Fruit Market weren't going to vacate the site for 2 years so clearing and construction will need to be meticulous. The plans will be interesting, whenever they come to light. Fingers crossed. |

I’ll be using the train anyway. |

Positive news and a short walk from Temple Meads. Let’s hope the family can pull it off and we have a stadium to be proud of. But up until a few weeks ago, Wael was scrambling around trying to find out where the "new owners" were proposing to buy this plot. For him to claim any credit in finding this site is a joke. The Consortium wanting to buy the club and this land have been negotiating for months. This was the news that Knowall and several others knew about for ages. Heard that rumour a while ago, it sounded rubbish at the time. Why would people negotiate with people that don't even own the club??? What if that came to an agreement and then the family didn't want to sell up, as they had a different location?? Would you negotiate with someone, that might buy a business, but they don't know if they can?? For any negotiations to have taken place, Wael would have had to given the go ahead. Plus they so say pulled out of buying as as Uwe collapsed. So that don't want to fund is at the mem, like Wael is. They only want to take us over, if we get a new ground, so they can look good?  Why didn't they want to buy us at the mem and cover the £3 million a year losses, if they are that great??? More likely to be masters and Hamer chatting rubbish again. Either way, if we get a new ground. I don't care who gets the credit and who is behind it. As long as it's a good deal for the club. Some would still bash the family if they provided a ground, training facilities and took us up the league's. |

I'm desperate for us to move away from the tip that is the Memorial Ground. It's lack of atmosphere and facilities, not to mention the more important point that it cannot take us forward make it something that needs consigning to our history. The quicker it's knocked down and turned into a more fitting memorial, the better.
However, am I alone in thinking that this is a terrible location for a football stadium?
Yes, it's near the train station, but not many people will pay the costs of rail travel to go to a football match. The bus servive is poor, largely because Bristol is massively clogged up with traffic. If the club think people will use public transport, I think they are in cloud cuckoo land.
That leaves the car. Most people clearly use the car at present, but if we think parking is bad in Horfield, it's nothing compared to the St Phillips area. There would need to be a massive re-think of the area before parking would be a practical solution.
As I say, I'm desperate to leave the Mem, but surely in this day and age it has to be to an out of town site? I look forward to hearing more about our plans, but fear that if the transport issue isn't resolved, it could end up being a lovely shiny stadium that is only 20% full.
But like most people, I'm no expert on stadia or transport planning. What am I missing?

Conversely I’m not desperate to leave the Mem at all even though I agree with all of your reasons for wanting to. I would much rather we redeveloped the Mem to a 20,000 capacity modern stadium. For me the location is perfect right in the middle of north Bristol and in a very vibrant and fun to be area. Gloucester Rd is a big part of the match day experience and sadly usually the best part too! |
