Makes me laugh that players “not good enough for this level “because they didn’t play that well in a friendly or “ looks our best bet “ because they had a good game. I didn’t go today because I couldn’t be arsed to go and watch two teams run around for 90 minutes in a nothing game that was all about fitness and getting ready for when the real thing starts.
Friendly games are for the manager to try things out and the players to build fitness, nothing more.

Some overly negative comments here imo. Thought we did quite well in the first half which was quite entertaining. Went into the break 1-1 feeling that was a fair reflection of the way both teams had played. There's no doubt the injury subs of Little and OC had an impact and also do did taking Leahy off at half time. Second half brum pressed high and we were outplayed for sure but you have to remember that at that stage most of our team were youngsters playing against a champ side so what would you expect? Brum only made one sub I think so presumably that was their preferred line up. Positives: Bennett, Smith and Rodman all linked up really well in the first half. Bennett's goal was good and he came close to bagging a second. Liked the look of both Little and Leahy who both got forward well whilst they were on. Meneyese I thought looked solid as a rock and so did Alfie for the little time he was on, both are not too far away from first team football imo, Alfie probably a bit closer. Reilly was very lively when he came on. Negatives: Jaakola looks a bit dodgy to me, rarely came out for anything, distribution poor especially kicking. Really hope the other keeper is much better as I would fear of Jak is to be no.1. Thought Davies had a mixed game, good and poor at times, took the armband when OC went off so I reckon he is definitely Tom's replacement. Injuries are a concern when we're so close to the start of the season Correct me if I'm wrong but we now have the following players carrying some kind of an injury: THD, JCH, Nichols, OC, Little, Davies & Leahy. I would imagine that all of these would be in our starting 11 if they were fit. Fingers crossed most of them only have minor knocks then! UTG! Agree with most of this but Serc's...... oh dear looked like he was lost in Midfield Goalie was way to slow Good point, Sercs was so lost that I'd even forgotten about him when writing my assessment of the game!

If it was bad today, what was it when we got hammered by Exeter last season. It could be worse, Walsall lost to non league Nott's County today.

Friendly games are for the manager to try things out and the players to build fitness, nothing more. The problem is the same players were not good enough last season, remember GC, playing that awful defensive set up to squeeze out enough points to stay in div 1, with the end of season chat all about bringing in new pacy wingers and “marquee “ forwards, unfortunately, to date, he has been unable to bring in any quality, the kids on display are currently not good enough to play regularly in the first team. In defence with Little at right back Kilgour (hopefully) or Davies, Craig & Tareiq (when fit) Kelly, we should be ok, but up top with no service = no goals. Made the the right call “staying away to day” l can say, GC did **** all, today, stood by the side of the pitch most of the afternoon with his arms folded, very quiet, tactics throughout the game remained the same. With no width, no pace, no real consistent threat in front of goal, and the usual lack of concentration leading to two goals from crosses.

Its a friendly no more than a run out for Brum . I don't think they will exert themselves too much unless we get our noses in front. Still a good test against championship opposition and a chance to get an idea of how far we are away from that level. Not sure about the logic of the first para. Surely you could say that about virtually every friendly, from both sides , unless (a) they were at very different stages in pre-season, or (b) very different level of oppo. I'd suggest a friendly is a friendly. Each one is judged on many factors rather than some sort of idea that a championship team won't be trying. These were just pre match comments after I had seen our starting line up. I did not expect the game to be much of a stretch for Birmingham as they are a championship side and there is imo a chasm between this division and championship level. That was not to say that I didn't think Birmingham would try I just thought that it would be a comfortable game for them and more of a test for us. Anyway thanks for misrepresenting my post in you own patronizing way.

As has been mentioned by others ,these are pre season friendlies the purpose of which is to sharpen up fitness, try one or two players and a few different options etc., I am sure the coaches `learn a great deal from the games and will act accordingly, if we choose to watch these training exercises then we must do so while bearing these thoughts in mind and leave the 'ratings' game till the first game that matters ,Blackpool .away, up the Rovers!

Was Sercombe used in a withdrawn midfield role again?

O dear, O dear, we were unfortunately not very good, just back from the MEM and reflecting on a very poor performance, no pace or passion. Individual errors for both goals; Tom Davies did not compete for a centre from the right hand side into the back of the six yard box, the brum header resulted in a second attempt tap in crossing the line at the Blackthorn end. The second was totally the fault of Rollin Manayese he switched off from a left sided centre into the south tent end and a Brum forward strolled past him to head calmly into the far corner past a helpless Jaakkola. My over riding worry with both Ollie Clarke & Mark Little going off injured, is GC has not improved the team from last season, in fact imo BRFC are looking worse than they did last term. Although l am looking forward to our weekend away at Blackpool, l will be amazed if this squad come away from Bloomfield road with points. Only time will tell, although currently we look more like a bottom six side rather than a team likely to pushing for a play off place. So you think Clarke was a good as Little? If little plays 40+ games and is consistently good this season he will equal james clarke of last season. Little has good pedigree but he has not done a thing for rovers yet.

You can have an opinion from a friendly. Keeper, big, so not hugely mobile. Full backs, very decent until subbed Davis, looked good, won most headers Rollin, still raw, no where near ready Upson, decent actually Clarke, ok Sercombe, didn't notice him playing Rodman, looked lively and a threat Bennett, nice touches but complacent Smith, excellent hold up play and movement.
The young development sunbs very nervous as expected.

Not worried at all about the result
Majorly worried by the growing injury list
Could do with bringing in another big unit to cover for JCH and a left winger.

Didn’t go and not bothered - lost all passion for pre season nowadays! You weren't the only one. Only 144 more Rovers fans than Brum in the ground.
