If I was manager the only time Nichols would feature Is as a sub if we were more than one goal up with 10-15 minutes left, then if he played well and scored in some of those opportunities then he’s playing himself back in to the team if he doesn’t then reserves simple as that. Jak had an opportunity and he took it. That’s what hungry strikers do. We’re crying out for a hungry striker. He had a decent game tonight. Took his goal nicely, held the ball up well, and was a constant thorn in the West Ham defence. So that`s the last we`ll see of him before Christmas.
Christmas?! Based on your evidence he's played his last game for the club! Honestly, if Nichols starts on Saturday I think I'll be in the DC out camp. It will be nothing but sheer bloody minded belligerence after this Watford lad scored tonight.

Speak for yourself it's still 11 v 11 and progress in a competition that can earn the club a lot of money. If you're not interested then why are you posting about it. The majority turned their back tonight but yes, I'm speaking for myself. I'm posting because I'm very passionate about the future of this club and lower league football in general. Short term win bonuses won't be any consolation when we turn up on a Saturday at 3pm and have to watch Bournemouth U23's or even worse, City U23's. It will happen unless supporters up and down the country take a stand. People can throw personal insults at me all day long but I make no apologies for spelling out the significance of this trial and the impact it will have on the club and the future of lower league football. I’m always glad when we win and at the moment the confidence this should bring is very important. So in the short term it is a welcome win and a clean sheet. But in the longer term you are spot on. Having to play U23 teams is harmful to lower league football and most lower league clubs have been bribed into it. But this argument has been had over the past two years and nothing has changed. Bad competition and I won’t be supporting it but it’s up to everyone to make there own decision! Enough people on this forum so far this season telling others what to think without adding to them!! 😉 UTG!

Very good 2nd half performance after a dull 1st half. Leadbitter, partington, kelly[marking their best player],matthews and upson all played well. Jakubiak man of match and a good goal. Payne worked very hard but looked short of sharpness/confidence near goal.

Good to get back to winning at home & keeping a clean sheet.
Will never attend this kind of game, making clubs like us play competitive games against U21 sides is an insult to the players and fans of football league clubs.

I just hope they can replicate that result with an extra few thousand bodies and a lot more pressure on their shoulders Saturday.
Clean sheet and 2 goals though, not to be sniffed at. Decent

The fans are pretty much making a stand against this competition. The attendances have been dreadful since the beginning and they haven't improved in the three years as the EFL hoped they would. The problem is that both finals have been between well or decent supported teams so the EFL are living off that. Also unfortunately money talks. The only reason this competition is still going on is because of the money the clubs are receiving. After the first year they were offered more money therefore they voted to keep it going. What annoys me is you get plonkers like Tim Sherwood who was on Sky Sports the other day going on about how we need B teams / feeder clubs and they never allow anyone to counter argue against it. If the premier league want it, they will get it at the end of the day. We know they are the ones who run the show and the FA / EFL will do anything to please them, especially for money.

Decent Neither is nasal sex. Well done Gas, a competition that I don’t give 2 f**ks about but it was very important that we got a win tonight. So on to Saturday with hopefully a bit more confidence? And more importantly a home win UTG!

Evening started well with some Northern Soul classics, then the 'excitement' of a camera falling from the top of the West Stand onto the walkway at the front of the terracing. No joke, on a league matchday someone could have been killed. A bright and energetic performance. Jakubiak took his goal well and was a threat throughout the match. Kelly is still a bit raw but looks a proper LB, rather than someone just filling in. Payne looked livelier than in recent performances. After a shaky start to the season Ollie Clarke is close to back to his best and, I think, would be a much better and influential captain. Sinclair got rid of the cobwebs and could be in contention for a place Saturday. Russe impressed again when he came on. Matthews has class and should start every game. Lots for DC to think about. Last night's team showed hunger and played as a team.
No sign of the new Family Stand. The electronic scoreboard is now beyond a joke. Each time it's used more parts of it don't work....a flip chart would be better! Can't think that there were the 1,500 the club was expecting. Not that many more than a DS game.

Question,The likes of Man U,Arsenal,in fact all the prem and most championship clubs have been putting out youth,/b teams in league and fa cup for years do we boycott those games or would we all get exited if we draw one of em in these competitions?PS well done tonite Gas , good team selection for this match ,though would have liked subs to have got more game time, now come on Rovers 3 pts on Sat!, PPS the boy Jack is gonna score a lot of goals for us, get them songs ready!

Massive difference between picking U23 players for a first team squad and an actual competition for a full U23 squad. But I'm sure you knew that.
