Its connected to the old Henbury/Filton Line which starts life in Seven Beach i think and will be part of the "New" Henbury loop line going into Parkway and Temple Meads They are building a £6m Station at the Filton (Charlton Halt ? - Brab Hanger) and a £12m+ at Henbury Work has started at Ashley Down railway station to upgrade it as well The Biggest Hold up is to Filton Junction as they need to convert it to a 4 line junction from 2 at the moment en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henbury_Loop_LineAh thanks for the update! Thats train transport sorted then, however we are still going to miss out on trade in pubs, bars, hotels, etc if its out in Filton. Unless there are plans to build all that stuff up around there? Part of the Brab plan was to convert Bay 2 into the arena and bay 3 into a entertainment complex. When i worked in the Brab back in the 80's the place was rusting away then, good knows what its like now

However, as I said before, it is one of Bristol's iconic buildings and every step should be taken to keep it in place. If it's not to be an Arena, then unfortunately I can only see it being demolished, and that would be a shame.

Cue 30 pages of, not big enough, no decent pubs, we'll never get planning, I wanna go on the train, I don't like the train I wanna drive, I want safe standing, I don't want any standing, we should be in town, where's the money coming from etc etc etc. Had over 30 years of this, the only upside is the advent of social media, where we can all vent our frustrations. Bact to the OP, extending the Dri Build stand would be a start, but can't see that being done in the close season, we would have heard about that by now (Planning needed?). If it is true then probably means we won't have a completely new stadium, just a make over bit by bit. But then again it will be an improvement on the current situation UTG

I didn't know that. Couple of questions. Is there a train station there? And is this a local line or can you go onto say Birmingham without changing? Its connected to the old Henbury/Filton Line which starts life in Seven Beach i think and will be part of the "New" Henbury loop line going into Parkway and Temple Meads They are building a £6m Station at the Filton (Charlton Halt ? - Brab Hanger) and a £12m+ at Henbury Work has started at Ashley Down railway station to upgrade it as well The Biggest Hold up is to Filton Junction as they need to convert it to a 4 line junction from 2 at the moment en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henbury_Loop_LineExcept this isn't true is it? As the Henbury Loop was rejected and they are opening a spur line rather than an efficient loop which would link effectively to Parkway/BTM? Four tracking is also underway at Filton Junction and so shouldn't be holding up the local stations being built - although there most definitely is nothing happening at Ashley Down! Keep trying though...

In this day and age of congestion charges in cities etc, it would be madness to put something like a new sports stadium/airport/arena in the middle of a city. New builds of this type should be built on the edge, or just outside of the city. It's just plain common sense, especially as Bristol does not have any decent public transport/light rail system that would enable people to be moved easily and quickly. Eastville stadium and ashton gate stadium and the memorial stadium and the old stadium up knowle way were all at the time built on the edge of town. Town has since grown to absorb them.

A fair proportion of an arena crowd will be from outside Bristol. Those will be the people catching the train rather than driving into Bristol. People who wish to can still drive, there are sufficient car parks within a 15 to 20 minute walk. You seem to be underestimating the amount of effort people are willing to go to, to see a favourite band or performer. The one thing the Filton site isn't, is green, in any sense of the word. Well i live 5 miles from Temple Meads site and will not be going to any new Arena built on it. Cardiff has a fantastic Arena with a massive car park next door and that is my choice. Why BCC cannot do a compulsory purchase on Colston Hall , Knock the thing down, rebuild an Arena and call it Mandela Hall to keep the Dimwits happy. Got to be cheaper than the £100m+ to build the Temple Meads pile of crap There is a multi-storey carpark opposite temple meads station , its just out of direct sight from the main road. Think it can cope with 45 cars......

Keep trying though... By the time the Arena is built in 2025 it will be a loop line. It will initially be a spur due to the port people dragging their corporate feet, but was told at the last local community meeting that talks are at an advanced stage for an agreement The Ashley Down upgrade is underway as contracts have been put out to tender............. Keep trying for Temple Meads people may believe you one day it will be built

After months of prevarication, he will get his first big decision wrong (in my opinion). The four tracking between Parkway and Temple Meads is certainly underway, but I am not aware of the Ashley Down station being that far advanced yet.

Hi womble, just checked my briefing notes and if Ashley Hill is the Ashley Down Station then i stand corrected as we have not had the feasibility study back yet (Sept/Oct) and Contract Tender have not yet been issued. At the last meeting is was made clear that Filton will be the Cheaper option for the Arena.....

As for 'cheaper', it all depends on how the parameters are drawn. I suspect a case could be made for either site depending on what you include - build cost, wider economic benefits, environmental impact of extra journeys generated and their type etc. Either way, we'll know by May.
