In this day and age of congestion charges in cities etc, it would be madness to put something like a new sports stadium/airport/arena in the middle of a city. New builds of this type should be built on the edge, or just outside of the city. It's just plain common sense, especially as Bristol does not have any decent public transport/light rail system that would enable people to be moved easily and quickly.

Are we getting "electric" turnstiles or just card readers installed at the present manual turnstiles? If it's the latter than I doubt the expense is any greater than the contactless card readers we've recently had installed at the pasty huts. Although if you think the ALQ's are paying for them out of their own bank accounts then you are a bit deluded. You have proof of this or more male cow poo from you ? Have you proof they are? I see on the Gasheds forum you questioning why the ALQ's are paying for an office in London, why don't you also post that view on Gaschat as well??

Bristol City Council won’t worry about that all they think about is the money in business rates etc they will generate. The likes of me and you know that filton would be the most sensible place but money talks and brown envelopes pass from hand to hand.

On the contrary, studies in the USA have shown that the economic benefit is greater if an arena is in the city centre. Cardiff's arena works fine and is in the city centre, as is the Millennium Stadium. Ours would be next to the largest railway station in the south west, with connection north, east, south and west. Complete no brainer in my opinion.

Bars and restaurants are packed, yet we have Marvin trying to build an arena on a disused airship nowhere near anything

Probably completely unrelated and I don't think it is binding on the mayor either but maybe indicative of their thoughts, I see yesterday Bristol City Council have voted in favour of keeping the existing arena site and not going to Filton. Final decision in May. and the money is coming from ....... ? Filton - No cost to the council only infrastructure costs Temple Meads - £100m+ Build Cost and No Infrastructure in place... Umm Around half of the cost comes from WECA (the combined local authority set up) and the other half is borrowed and then repaid by the rent from the arena operators. If it goes to Filton, private operators get all the profits, at Temple Meads, once the loan is repaid, BCC have an arena to earn income or sell on as they wish. The Temple Meads infrastructure is already in place. It seems to be overlooked that two of the world's biggest area operators, SMG and Live Nation would not want to run the Temple Meads set up, if the proposed transport arrangements weren't going to work.

Why has it taken 15 years and £10m+ to have a empty site ? Sounds like Bristol Rovers Colony Complex.... LOL

Its common sense to put the arena slap bang next to the train station which can handle thousands of people in and out. Cardiff manage it with their arena and the millennium right in the centre. On a matchday the centre is buzzing with people spending money. Your point about public transport is EXACTLY why it shouldn't be built at Filton. People would have to drive clogging up the roads and not spending any money in the city. Let's not forget the infrastructure that would need to be put in place to make Filton viable. All the new roads that bring more cars and more pollution with them.

I genuinely don't get all this bitching about the small improvements that have already been made. Would you prefer it was left as it was? It's not a binary choice that either we get a new stadium OR we can have the things that clearly need sorting out seen to. If it was left as it was the amount of posts saying stuff like "new stadium? Ha! We can't even sort out new hand dryers for the one we've got" would be countless.

Yes the Disabled shelters are a bit naff, but at least it's something. Something that could have been done 5,10,15,20 years ago for a few quid for the benefit of supporters

All the new roads that bring more cars and more pollution with them. Seriously, how many people would catch a train to go to the Arena in town? If you live in the Bristol area I don't think it will be that many. Most people will drive, as the public transport is useless/dirty/expensive/irregular. Building something in the middle of a city that will have thousands of people attending is just not practicable in this day and age when cheaper/greener sites are available. The new brand spanking Bristol Metrobus Route ends at Cribbs Causeway. It won't take much to just run that over to the Filton site. Access from the M4/M5 is easy via the A38, and throw in a train station nearby and it is a far more cost effective solution compared to Temple Meads! Not only that, but the Brabazon Hanger is one of Bristol's most iconic buildings and should be utilized/preserved. Converting it to an Arena would be a fine thing to do.

A fair proportion of an arena crowd will be from outside Bristol. Those will be the people catching the train rather than driving into Bristol. People who wish to can still drive, there are sufficient car parks within a 15 to 20 minute walk. You seem to be underestimating the amount of effort people are willing to go to, to see a favourite band or performer. The one thing the Filton site isn't, is green, in any sense of the word.
