Since we are now 10 league games into the season, I feel its worth looking at the scores from the Player Ratings threads. I'm using a slightly different metric for the season averages this year. Basically its a weighted average which values ratings from 90 min appearances as more important than cameo sub appearances. For example if a player played 90 miuntes in one game and scored an 8, then played 45mins the next game and scored a 6 and then 27mins and a 7 then their season average would be [{(8x1)+(6x0.5) +(7x0.3)}/(90+45+27)]x90. The 1, 0.5 and 0.3 come from the proportion of 90 minutes that they played each game. tl;dr, this means that a 5 minute appearance will have little impact on a player's rating compared to a 90 appearance. Here are all of the players and their season average. For comparison is their average last season. Player | Rating | Last Season's Average | McChrystal | 7.83 | 6.59 | Sinclair | 7.10 | 6.74 | Lockyer | 7.04 | 6.03 | Leadbitter | 7.01 | 6.32 | J. Clarke | 6.84 |
| Nicholls | 6.81 |
| O. Clarke | 6.76 | 4.83 | Chapman | 6.56 |
| Bodin | 6.54 |
| Lines | 6.49 | 7.23 | Brown | 6.43 | 6.33 | Easter | 6.21 | 5.96 | Gosling | 6.13 | 5.67 | Parkes | 6.02 | 6.76 | Mansell | 6.00 | 6.35 | Lucas | 5.94 |
| Harrison | 5.66 | 6.79 | Taylor | 5.20 | 6.15 | Mildenhall | 4.88 | 5.92 | Montano | 4.78 |
| Monakana | 4.47 |
| Lyttle | 3.67 |
|
Man of the Match Awards: Lockyer 3 ( +2x runner-up) Sinclair 2 ( 2) J. Clarke 2O. Clarke 1Lines 1Chapman 1Nicholls ( 3) Parkes ( 1) Leadbitter ( 1) McChrystal ( 1) Gosling ( 1) Overall, there have been 119 ratings from 40 different posters. The average rating has been 6.16, which is up from last season's average of 6.08. These are the posters who have contributed at least 4 ratings and their average scores: * I have seen 4 games this season and they were all home losses. Funny how a lot of people moan about SteveK being negative but his ratings are highest. Keep it up Steve.
And thanks Uni good work.

Excellent as always.
Couple of observations:
Amazing that taylor is only 13th over the season considering now talking about him being the next vardy and snapped up by a championship club, only 2 places higher than nicholls who many cant wait to see the back of. Shows the form these two have been in over the last 10 games.
Amazing that ollie clarke ranks so highly when he barely gets a mention and ia very much a squad player who often comes in for criticism.
Again, top stuff!

Now 30 league games into the season, this is how the season averages from the Player Rating threads are working out. Despite playing just one game in the last ten, McChrystal snatches top spot. Lockyer stays in second, while Parkes has performed well recently. Gaffney hasn't managed quite the same high level and 8th place is low by Sinclair's standards. Mildenhall did well and his season average is almost the same as Chapman's. Mansell, Lines and the Clarkes stay similar to where they are overall, while Leadbitter under-performed a bit. With the exception of Gaffney, strikers and wingers haven't scored highly and prop up the table. Player | Last 10 Rating | Last 10 Rank | Season Rating | Season Rank | McChrystal | 7.00 | 1 | 7.08 | 1 | Lockyer | 6.94 | 2 | 7.00 | 2 | Parkes | 6.88 | 3 | 6.34 | 13 | Mildenhall | 6.75 | 4 | 6.55 | 8 | Gaffney | 6.65 | 5 | 6.92 | 3 | Mansell | 6.59 | 6 | 6.59 | 6 | Brown | 6.40 | 7 | 6.48 | 11 | Sinclair | 6.37 | 8 | 6.75 | 4 | Lines | 6.28 | 9 | 6.43 | 12 | J. Lawrence looks like a really poor signing from those ratings. I wasn't particularly happy when we signed him but have not seen him yet, is he really that bad?

Lawrence looks like a really poor signing from those ratings. I wasn't particularly happy when we signed him but have not seen him yet, is he really that bad? Playing DA, he has made his appearances against the better sides. A very interesting way to look at the marks would be to always weight them against the quality of opposition - so ratings given against higher teams would be worth "more" where as scores against lesser opposition would be worth "less" if that makes sense?

Sort of, but don't the fans rating them do this already to a degree? A solid performance against a top strike force for example will get better marks for a defender than a clean sheet against a poor opposition will, right?

Given that we've now played everyone in the division, the opposition ratings can have some use. Below is what the table would look like based on how posters have rated the opposition in a game against Rovers. Also used is the average rating for a Rovers XI. As you can see some are quite accurate, while others are far off. The top and bottom are fairly similar, though we didn't appreciate how good Northampton were based on the first game of the season. Plymouth, Oxford, Hartlepool and Dagenham are all in the right place, while Newport and Notts County must have raised their game against us as they are 9 places better off than the real league table. Team | Rating | Rank | Table position | Portsmouth | 8.0 | 1 | 5 | Plymouth | 7.5 | 2 | 2 | Oxford | 7.1 | 3 | 3 | Accrington | 7.1 | 4 | 6 | Leyton Orient | 7.1 | 5 | 9 | Northampton | 6.7 | 6 | 1 | Rovers | 6.3 | 7 | 8 | Mansfield | 6.0 | 8 | 7 | Notts County | 6.0 | 9 | 18 | Wycombe | 5.9 | 10 | 4 | Newport | 5.6 | 11 | 20 | Morecambe | 5.3 | 12 | 16 | Stevenage | 5.2 | 13 | 19 | Wimbledon | 5.0 | 14= | 10 | Exeter | 5.0 | 14= | 13 | Luton | 5.0 | 16 | 14 | Cambridge | 4.8 | 17 | 11 | Carlisle | 4.6 | 18 | 12 | Barnet | 4.5 | 19 | 17 | York | 3.8 | 20 | 23 | Hartlepool | 3.7 | 21 | 21 | Crawley | 3.5 | 22 | 15 | Yeovil | 3.1 | 23 | 22 | Dagenham | 3.0 | 24 | 24 |

There have been 414 ratings from 61 posters. The average rating is a 6.30. I think 6.3 is low considering our season! I think that one of the reasons is that people overreact to a loss. Perhaps we've also become slightly complacent to a win, the average rating against Crawley was only 6.8. Also there are more ratings for home games than away games and the early season home defeats had some low ratings that skew the average score. The last ten games have a much higher average as you can see from the individual player scores.
